Abstract

Vaccinations carried out not only have a function to protect the Covid-19 virus. The existence of facilities for the implementation of facilities by the government as a condition for permits for public access. The focus of the problem in this study is related to the motives of residents participating in the Covid-19 vaccination activity in Surabaya. The purpose of the study is to further identify the motives of residents participating in the Covid-19 vaccination activity in Surabaya, as well as to analyze this phenomenon using the phenomenological theory of Alfred Schutz. This study uses a phenomenological approach with the method of observation, interviews, and literature study. The results of the study show that there are various motives for citizens to participate in vaccination, ranging from historical experiences, to getting access to public facilities, self-protection efforts, and so on. Residents hope that by participating in vaccinations, they can increase their immunity, as well as form group immunity. Some of the impacts felt by the community include fever, often feeling hungry, itching on the skin with red rashes, to not feeling any effects. The relevance between the phenomenon and the phenomenological theory is that the subjectivity of people's expressions about vaccination is quite diverse, including to get immunity, in order to be able to access public facilities. But in the end, the group's awareness to form herd immunity made people move to follow vaccination. Keywords: Covid-19 Pandemic, Vaccination, Phenomenology.
