Abstract

AbstractMost of students? problems in writing are they haven?t know how to generate and develop the idea. They write based on what in their mind randomly without any technique that can help them to write the ideas and used their thinking skill well. To solve the problem, Diary Writing technique was applied to improve the students? skill in writing recount text. To examine the technique, a pre-experimental research was conducted in MAN 1 Pontianak with tenth grade students as the population and class X IPA 1 as the sample that consisted of 38 students. To gain the data indicating the effect of the technique used pre-test and post-test as the instruments and measurement test was used as the tool of the data collection. Based on the result of hypothesis testing as well as analysis of the effect size, it shows that use of diary writing had a strong effect in teaching writing recount text in MAN 1 Pontianak. Diary writing enabled the students to get more practices in writing and it could help them to elaborate the idea in writing. It was indicated by the improvement of students? writing achievement after getting the treatments. Therefore, this technique is recommended to be implemented in teaching writing recount text. Keywords: Diary Writing, Recount Text, Writing Achievement

Abstract

AbstractThe aimed of this reseach was to find out the effectiveness of  Contemporary Dancing Video  in teaching students writing narrative to year-10 students of  MA Negeri 2 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The population of this research was all year-10 students of  MA Negeri 2 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018 and the researcher took the sample by using cluster random sampling to determined the participant of the research which consisted of 39 students. From the data of the finding, itrevealed that the technique could make the students narrative writing ability increased significantly. It can be seen when the students tried to share and exchange their opinion and presented the discussion result in front of the class. The students put the core of narrative plot when presenting the story of the video.The research result showed that the technique was effective to enhance students narrative writing text due to the increasing for students’ achievements in narrative writing. It proved by the t-test calculation result which was higher than t-critical value (7.96 > 1.68). The effect size was 1.25 and categorized as high. As the conclusion, the media was able to be used in enhancing students’ ability in writing narrative text and the effect was positive. The researcher recommends this media as a variation in teaching process, especially in teaching writing narrative text.  Keywords:       Contemporary dancing video, Narrative text, teaching writing.

Abstract

AbstractThe aims of this research was to find the empirical evidence of riddle game in teaching English vocabulary to the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Sungai Raya in Academic Year 2018/2019.. This study employed Pre-Experimental with one group pre-test and post-test design. The writer took the sample by using cluster random sampling to determine the participant of reseach consisted of 30 students. The data were collected by measurement technique and the tool of data collection was multiple choice test. Referring to the research findings, it was showed that the technique was effective in increasing the students’ vocabulary achievement with t-test calculation resulted which was higher the t-critical and the effect size was 1.97 categorized as strong effect. To conclude,the use of riddle game for teaching vocabulary has a very strong effect in increase students’ vocabulary achievement due to the learning process where the students played with each other, interacted and as a result they cooperated in learning new words and could learn from their classmates a lot. Keywords: riddle,vocabulary

Abstract

AbstractThis research was conducted to improve descriptive text writing of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 17 and their use of noun phrases, simple present tense, and sentences writing in descriptive text by using personal photographs. The research was conducted in form of classroom action research. Subject of the research was seventh grade students of VII B class of SMP Negeri 17 Pontianak of academic year 2016/2017. In this research, the students made improvement during teaching and learning process as well as in writing descriptive text by using personal photographs. The students could also improve their use of noun phrases and simple present tense as well as their sentences writing in descriptive text by using personal photographs. After that, the students enjoyed and were happy in using personal photographs in their learning process as well as in writing descriptive text. Therefore, it indicated that personal photographs improved descriptive text writing of seventh grade students of VIIB of SMP Negeri 17.      Keywords: personal photographs, writing, descriptive text.

Abstract

 AbstractThis is a study on increasing students? skill of writing recount text through the use of WhatsApp on the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Pontianak in academic year 2018/2019. The method implemented in this research was Pre-Experimental research with single group pre-test and post-test design. The subjects of the research were 35 students of class X IPA 1, the writer took the sample by using cluster random sampling. The data were collected through written test. Referring to the research findings, it was showed that the use of WhatsApp gave a positive contribution to the students? writing achievement of recount text. The use of WhatsApp to teach writing of recount text is succeeded in increasing students? writing achievement of recount text. Thus, the writer recommends the teacher to use WhatsApp in teaching learning process, to not only teach writing but also speaking, reading, and listening.Key Words: Writing, Recount Text, WhatsApp.

Abstract

Abstract: The aim of this research is to improve students’ reading inference skills of narrative text. This research was conducted to tenth year students of SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak in academic year 2013/2014. In this research, the Subject is class X IPS 3 that consists of 32 students. The researcher conducted a classroom action research in his research and acted as the teacher during the research period. The data were collected by using quantitative and qualitative method. The observation checklist table, field notes and video recorder were used as the tools of data collecting. Reciprocal Teaching Technique was used as the technique in this research which is conducted the research in two cycles. The research findings showed that the mean score of students’ reading comprehension test in the first cycle is 64.6, and in the second cycle is 77.18 which means it successfully passed the Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM) in this school that was 65. In the first cycle, the students were able to gain the implied cause-effect. In the second cycle, the students could predict the outcome, and draw conclusions. Reciprocal Teaching Technique managed to improve the students’ reading inference skills in narrative text. This technique helped the students in understanding what the author meant and in drawing the conclusion from the narrative text given to them. Keywords: Inference skills, Reciprocal Teaching technique, Narrative Text Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami makna tersirat siswa pada teks bacaan naratif. Penelitian ini telah dilakukan terhadap siswa kelas 10 SMA Negeri 10 Pontianak pada tahun akademik 2013/2014. Dalam penelitian ini sasaran penelitiannya adalah siswa kelas X IPS 3 yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. peneliti menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas dan berperan sebagai guru selama masa penelitian berlangsung. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tehnik kualitatif dan kuantitatif dengan menggunakan table pemeriksaan penelitian, catatan lapangan, dan rekaman video sebagai alat untuk mengumpulkan data.. Tehnik yang digunakan adalah reciprocal teaching technique dan dilaksanakan dalam 2 siklus. Hasil penelitian menunjukan skor rata-rata tes pemahaman bacaan siswa pada siklus pertama adalah 64,66, dan pada siklus kedua sebesar 77,18 yang berarti berhasil lulus terhadap nilai Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum (KKM) di sekolah itu yaitu 65. Pada siklus pertama para siswa sudah biasa memahami tentang penyebab-akibat yang tersirat. Pada siklus kedua siswadapat memprediksi hasil dan menarik kesimpulan. Recprocal teaching technique bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan memahami bacaan siswa terhadap teks naratif. Tehnik ini membantu siswa dalam memahami maksud dan tujuan dari penulis serta membuat kesimpulan dari teks naratif yang diberikan.
