Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the innovation activities and literacy movements carried out by the West Java Community Library Forum (FTBM) and the Jatmika Bandung Community Library (TBM) in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this research is descriptive method with a qualitative approach and data collection techniques through interviews, observation, documentation and literature study. This study aims to obtain an empirical picture of creative innovations created by FTBM in the West Java region, especially at TBM Jatmika Bandung, in order to remain productive in providing collection services and activities aimed at improving the culture of reading or community literacy during the pandemic. The results of the study show that each FTBM and TBM in the West Java region collaborate with each other and play an active role in creating innovative literacy activities and movements virtually or online without reducing the spirit of community literacy energy and literacy activists in West Java. FTBM and TBM in West Java created a new strategy, namely by transforming all of their activities into alternative digital media to encourage literacy activities with new faces that are more fun. In addition, this strategy is also useful in providing convenience for the community in meeting literacy needs wherever and whenever. Thus, TBM can continue to play a role as a means to increase reading interest and literacy skills of the people of West Java even in the midst of a pandemic.

Abstract

Let’s-Read merupakan aplikasi bacaan digital yang memberikan fasilitas pembelajaran bahasa dan lintas budaya dari koleksi multibahasa yang diadakannya. Lebih daripada itu, koleksi bacaan digital Let’s-Read juga dikembangkan untuk dapat dimanfaatkan oleh penggunanya dari kalangan anak-anak dan orangtua dalam meningkatkan daya literasi dan minat membaca anak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan gambaran mengenai strategi pengadaan koleksi digital di aplikasi Let’s-Read. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif dan teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan melalui tahap observasi,wawancara, dokumentasi dan studi literatur. Hasil temuan yang didapatkan dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Teknik alih bahasa dapat efektif dalam membantu memperkaya koleksi di perpustakaan digital Let’s Read. Aspek yang mempengaruhi teknik alih bahasa dalam memperkaya koleksi di perpustakaan yaitu akses ke lebih banyak konten, pengayaan kultural, penyebaran pengetahuan, pertukaran ide. Sehingga dari proses alih bahasa akan tercipta koleksi multibahasa yang dapat mempengaruhi minat membaca pada anak-anak yang terlihat dari terciptanya hasil luaran terhadap ekspansi keterampilan bahasa, peningkatan minat budaya, keterlibatan emosional, meningkatkan kesadaran lintas budaya.

Abstract

In a child's learning process, the read-aloud method is a simple literacy practice that has a big impact. Pustakalana Children's Library created a program that focuses on reading aloud. A quality children's reading collection is needed to help children increase their interest in reading. Likewise, the role of librarians and parents who read aloud the collection. This study aims to look at the phenomenon of utilizing children's collections at Pustakalana for reading-aloud activities. The research method used is a qualitative case study method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Based on the results of the study, shows that reading is very important in children's lives because reading activities can form imagination patterns, and gain knowledge to activate children's creativity. Doing the read-aloud method to children can accelerate the development of their way of thinking to be more critical. Pustakalana facilitates read-aloud activities to improve children's reading and creativity through papercraft-making activities. However, the role of parents as role models for children in the family environment is also very important. Parents should set a good example by reading books out loud to their children. Reading regularly is the key to the success of this reading method.
