Abstract

Since 19th century, Jepara has been wellknown for furniture and craftings. It is shown by the appcreciation from some people claiming Jepara as an intregrated region for furniture and craftings. In Jepara, making furniture and craftings activities have become ingrained part of culture, arts, economic, social and politic. It is difficult to seperate them from its history, as it is not clear the time and place of making furniture and craftings. Thus, tracking the history is necessary to do, to know the development of Jepara as an integrated region for furniture and craftings nowadays.

Abstract

Our everyday activities cannot be separated from the use of furniture, especially the indoor activities. We use a bed to sleep, sitting in a chair, or other activities. Various designs of furniture made to adapt human activities. But have we ever thought about the materials used for the furniture? Wood is a common material used in furniture. This article is made to encourage designers being responsible towards living environment. They are charged to love nature and realize that their participation in defining natural preservation is huge. Design is the starter of eco living and all designed stuffs and then well produced from choosing material until its effects in the future, because everything will directly affect ourselves and environment.

Abstract

Cirebon area has long been known as an area that has great potential in the field of furniture and handicraft industry with raw materials of rattan. This region really does not have trees but because of the large rattan hereditary craftsmen at work there, and many there menyebabkan Cirebon rattan industry as a major regional craftsmen and the largest cane producer in Indonesia. But that condition did not last long because it feared since the Minister of Trade Decree No.12 of 2005, contains the opening tap on raw rattan exports, leading, manufacturers prefer to export the raw materials of rattan. Prices of raw materials for furniture and rattan craft also be high because the prices charged for local producers to use the benchmark export price. This ministerial decree on the one side benefit exporters but the industry shut down one side.

Abstract

The purpose of this article was to identify the Jepara chairs based on its style and period. Qualitative research such as doing interviews with the Jepara chairs observer, observation to some centres and workshops of Jepara chairs, literature study from various books consisting the style and process of Jepara chairs production were conducted. The identification of Jepara chairs started with Islamic and Hinduism influence in the 16th to the 17th century when the missionary and sailor from Portuguese entered Java until the style of Jepara chair in the 20th century. The alteration that mirrors the changes in socio-cultural aspect was being analysed as the style foundation that was used periodically in the making of the Jepara chairs. The categories a chair to have a Jepara style is a chair made by the craftsman in Jepara that, includes local factors both technically and material based that is combined with foreign culture, religion, and designs that brought at the time the chairs have been made. This research finds that chairs with Jepara style are a combination of the international world with a glimpse of local wisdom, with a touch of the maker?s personality that makes it unique and a bit different with its origin style.

Abstract

Cirebon merupakan sebuah kota di Provinsi Jawa Barat dengan lokasi strategis yakni di jalur Pantura yang menghubungkan Jakarta-Cirebon-Semarang-Surabaya. Hal ini membuat Cirebon menjadi salah satu kawasan industri yang sibuk dan salah satunya bergerak pada industri batik. Batik mulai ramai diperbincangkan setelah UNESCO mempatenkan batik menjadi warisan budaya Indonesia. Mulai diterimanya batik secara umum membuat perekonomian meningkat, namun juga menimbulkan masalah baru dari olahan batik itu sendiri yakni sisa limbah batik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengolah kembali sisa limbah batik menjadi produk daur ulang yang siap dipasarkan dengan melalui metode observasi,dan eksperimental melalui “Design Thinking” dimana adanya proses pendekatan terhadap permasalahan yang ada dan mencari solusi yang mungkin bisa digunakan untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut berupa set perlengkapan makan individu untuk pelancong, sehingga secara bersamaan dapat meningkatkan perekonomian pengrajin juga mengurangi limbah.
