Abstract

Identification of students' conceptions is an important step before developing suitable learning methods to improve students' understanding. One of the best way to identify students’ conception is the use of diagnostic test. Therefore, the development of diagnostic tests were important in the teaching and learning process to help the teacher determine the students’ conceptions, wheater they have scientific conceptions, lack of knowledge, or misconception. The aim of this research is to develop a valid and reliable four-tier diagnostic test to identify students’ conceptions in inheritance. The research method consists of three main stages: define content, obtaine information about students’ conception, and develop the four-tier test. The result from the research demonstrated that the four-tier test that was developed, was valid and reliable instrument in diagnosing students’ conception in inheritance concepts.

Abstract

Scientific literacy skills are important skills taught to prepare students for the 21-st century learning era. Textbook based on collaborative learning model can be an alternative to improving students' scientific literacy skills. The purpose of the study was to describe scientific literacy skills and student responses through the use of biology textbook based on collaborative learning model. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative research with one group pretest-posttest research design. The instruments used are scientific literacy skills tests and response questionnaire sheets. The N-gain score, a paired sample t-test, and the results of the students' responses were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the value of the science literacy skills test increased with an N gain of 0.67, sig 0.05, and 95% of students responded positively. These results indicate that textbook based on collaborative learning model is effectively used to train students' scientific literacy skills and can be tested widely.

Abstract

Study aims to describe and analyze of blended learning implementation in learning activities. The method applied in this research is a literature review that is sourced from the results of previous studies that have been selected from Google Scholars. The steps applied in this study are identifying journals/articles about blended learning, analyzing the definition of blended learning, synthesizing opportunities and activities in implementation of blended learning, analyzing barriers to implementing blended learning, and making conclusions. From the results of the analysis of 30 selected works of literature, the implementation of blended learning can be done by teaching it as a learning model, teaching it by combining it with other learning strategies or models, teaching it with the help of an LMS, and teaching it with the help of social media. Furthermore, the application of blended learning is able to support activities that can train students' 21st century skills. The implementation of blended learning requires careful planning and requires an understanding of student characteristics and the availability of supporting facilities and infrastructure. This study can provide an overview of the opportunities to apply blended learning in learning activities.

Abstract

The RODE Learning Model is designed to improve student's communication skills. The RODE learning model has four stages: Read, Outline, Discussion and Evaluation. This study aims to analyze the practicality of the RODE learning model in improving student communication skills in elementary school 2 science lectures involving 50 students as a research sample. The research data were collected using an instrument of observation sheets on the implementation of learning and observation sheets of student activities which were assessed by two observers and equipped with a record of obstacles encountered during the application of the RODE learning model. Data analysis techniques use quantitative and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that the four stages of the model, namely Read, Outline, Discussion, and Evaluation, can be carried out correctly and reliably, and there are no obstacles that cannot be overcome. In general, student activities relevant to the RODE learning model have increased in each meeting. So it can be concluded that the RODE learning model is practical because it can be carried out according to the lecture implementation plan, and student activities are relatively active. The obstacles that arise can be overcome properly.

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze learning activities in science learning that can promote scientific reasoning skills and provide the best way to teach it. Method: The method used is a literature review analyzing 20 articles indexed by the Scopus database from 2017 – 2022. There are 200 articles about teaching scientific reasoning in the Scopus database, and 20 articles that focused on science learning were selected. The 20 articles then analyzed the domain of scientific reasoning and learning activities to train it. Results: The results showed that science learning interventions in practicing scientific reasoning can be carried out starting from secondary to higher education levels. The learning interventions can be designed in face-to-face learning by integrating social science phenomena/cases, conducting guided investigations assisted by modules, and implementing argument-based learning or online learning using mobile apps/online simulations. There is a tendency that investigative activities are the most widely used intervention to promote scientific reasoning skills in science learning. Novelty: This study can provide an overview of science learning activities that promote scientific reasoning so that teachers can design the most appropriate learning activities to train students' scientific reasoning.
