Abstract

Kata kunci: Hipertensi, Relaksasi Otot Progresif, Rendam Kaki Air Hangat  ABSTRACT Background: Hypertension is one of the main causes of death in developed and developing countries, because the course of the disease is very slow and the sufferers do not show symptoms for years until there is a significant organ damage that is called "the silent killer". One treatment for lowering blood pressure is by non-pharmacological therapy a combination of progressive muscle relaxation and warm water foot submerging. Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of the combination of progressive muscle relaxation and warm water foot submerging to the blood pressure of hypertensive patients in the area working Puskesmas Gamping 2 Yogyakarta. Methods: This type of quasi experimental research is the Time Series Design method. The population of this study was hypertensive patients who routinely control in the area working Puskesmas Gamping 2 Yogyakarta. The sample 28 respondents in the intervention group and 28 respondents in the control group with purposive random sampling. Data analysis with repeatead Measures ANOVA and paired sample t test. Results: The results showed a decrease in systolic blood pressure in the intervention and control groups (p = 0,000). The reduction in diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group (p = 0,000) and the control group did not have a significant difference (p = 0.126). Conclusion: The combination of progressive muscle relaxation and warm water foot submerging is effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the area working Puskesmas Gamping 2 Yogyakarta. Keywords: Hypertension, Progressive Muscle Relaxation, Warm Water Foot Soak
