Abstract

This study aimed to describe the relationship between religiosity and authoritative parenting style and the meaningfulness of student life. This study used quantitative tests. It gathers 132 students from the Faculty of Psychology of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan with an age range of 18 to 25 years. The sample was collected through proportional cluster random sampling with a proportion of 10% of the population. Three scales were used, namely the religiosity scale, authoritative parenting scale, and life meaningfulness scale. All data that has been collected was immediately analyzed using SPSS version 20. To test the hypotheses of this study, multiple linear regression analysis was used to determine the effect and the extent to which religiosity and authoritative parenting style contribute to life meaningfulness. All hypotheses were shown to be significant starting from the finding of a significant relationship between religiosity and life meaningfulness. Furthermore, there is a significant relationship between an authoritative parenting style and life meaningfulness. Life meaningfulness is achieved by recognizing and understanding God and then acting or behaving according to His words. Religiosity reflects the personality and early family upbringing. The authoritative parenting style applied during childhood may well continue until college. Religiosity and an authoritative parenting style may encourage an individual to make sense of every process, problem, sadness, or happiness and learn to be a better person. Life meaningfulness is correlated positively with religiosity and authoritative parenting style. This independent variable describes religiosity as consistently appreciating and bringing oneself closer to God and authoritative parents as being able to foster individual awareness to perceive the condition in accordance with appropriate understanding and action.Keyword: religiosity, authoritative parenting, positive relationship, meaningfulness

Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between democratic parenting and emotion regulation with the aggressiveness of soccer fans. The research subjects were students of class XI SMA Negeri 1 Sleman, totalling 71 students. The Likert model scale is the main instrument to obtain data on aggressiveness, democratic parenting, and emotion regulation. The data was then analyzed using multiple regression with the SPSS V26 program. The analysis results show that simultaneously there is a very significant relationship between democratic parenting and emotion regulation with aggressiveness (R = 0.604 with a sig. 0.000). While partially, democratic parenting with aggressiveness and emotion regulation with aggressiveness proved to have a very significant negative relationship (partial = -0.460 with sig. 0.000 level and partial = -0.315 with sig. 0.008). The contribution of democratic parenting to aggressiveness is more dominant (24%) than the contribution of emotion regulation to aggressiveness (12.4%). In conclusion, democratic parenting as an external factor from the family environment plays a vital role in controlling children's behaviour in adolescence (aggressiveness) than factors originating from within the child (emotion regulation).

Abstract

Every person has the power to flourish by maximizing all his or her abilities to obtain a quality and prosperous life—including away-from-home students. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence the flourishing of Nias students in the city of Yogyakarta. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological perspective. The sampling technique used was purposive. Six male away-from-home students were involved, and the inclusion criteria were: 1) participants are from the Nias area; 2) can communicate well; 3) have lived in a boarding house in Yogyakarta for at least one year; 4) have entered at least third semester; 5) aged 18–25 years; 6) willing to be a research participant, as evidenced by a research informed-consent sheet. Data were collected by observation and in-depth interviews with the research sample. Furthermore, this data will be analyzed using content analysis. Nias students who face new environments develop characteristics of positive emotions, engagement, and positive relations in adapting to new environments. Nias students flourish in unfamiliar contexts with family and community support, enabling them to thrive there. Keywords: flourishing; overseas, student

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of emotional maturity empirically and hope on forgiveness in college students who have experienced a breakup. The research method used is the quantitative method with a cross-sectional study design. This study’s population was college students who had experienced a breakup in the last five years using a purposive random sampling technique. The measuring instruments in this study used the hope scale, emotional maturity scale, and forgiveness scale. The data analysis used to test the hypothesis is multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of multiple regression analysis for the major hypothesis, the F value of hope and emotional maturity on forgiveness is 60.167 with a significance level (p) of 0.000 (p less than 0.01). This means there is a significant influence between hope and emotional maturity on forgiveness. The effective contribution separately on the hope variable on forgiveness is 8 percent, and the contribution of emotional maturity to forgiveness is 35 percent. The total effective contribution is 43 percent, with the remaining 47 percent effective contribution to forgiveness influenced by other variables not discussed in this study. This research is expected to contribute to the scientific field of psychology, especially positive psychology. In addition, it is also expected to be a reference for further research and practically to find out the role of hope and emotional maturity that affects forgiveness in college students.
