Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the young adult instagram users’ punctuation error on their instagram story. This present research uses qualitative design and the type is content analysis. The subjects of this research are taken from instagram users who belong to young adult instagram user and the researcher using snowball. This research employs documentation as the instrument of the study to collect the data. The findings of this research provided into 10 points; the researcher finds that there are 10 kinds of punctuation errors which are made by the young adult instagram users, they are (1) exclamation mark, (2) capital (capitalization), (3) period (full stop), (4) comma, (5) apostrophe, (6) question mark, (7) inverted comma (quotation mark), (8) ellipse, (9) hyphen, and (10) colon. The percentages of each error are exclamation mark 40.1%, capital (capitalization) 25.2%, period (full stop) 20.5%, comma 6.7%, apostrophe 2.3%, question mark 2.3%, inverted comma (quotation mark) 0.8%, hyphen 0.5%, colon 0.5%, and colon 0.2%. The findings of this study indicate that the most common punctuation error made by the young adult Instagram users was exclamation marks with a percentage of 40.1%.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to improve Grade XI students’ oral skills of MAN 1 Kendari. This research is classroom action research. It is conduct in two cycles, which is held for three meetings in the first cycle and three meetings in the second cycle. The subjects of this research are 29 students of class XI English Major at MAN 1 Kendari. The instruments of the study are observation sheet and students’ reflection. The actions implement in this research are using photovoice in teaching and learning process of speaking, implementing picture-based activities, giving feedback to students’ performances, accustoming students to speak English, and some other activities (actions). The results of the research show that the use of photovoice in the teaching and learning process of speaking is believe to be effective to improve the students’ speaking skills. The students’ motivation also increases. The result revealed that the mean score of the students’ speaking performance increase from 57% in the first cycle to 81% in the second cycle.Key words: Classroom Action Research, Oral Skill and Photovoice

Abstract

This qualitative study aims to identify students’ response to learners’ beliefs about pronunciation skill. The participants of this study consist of 35 students from the students of Pronunciation class in an institution, class A and B in the second semester of the academic year of 2019/2020. The qualitative data were analyzed by questionnaire. This study focuses on students’ beliefs in learning pronunciation. The result shows that students have four beliefs in learning pronunciation that is beliefs on learning process, learning pronunciation, strategy used in learning pronunciation, and the solution and importance of pronunciation. This will provide information to lecturers and universities to take advantage of beliefs in learning pronunciation.Keywords: importance of pronunciation; learning pronunciation; students’ beliefs

Abstract

The study in this research is oriented to the analysis and description of inferences on the context and a comprehensive understanding of other linguistic variables in the text and discourse in it. The research data are lingual lexical units and phrases that show the relation of synonymy and polysemy meanings in the narrative text of the comic "Smile Brush: My Old Pictures" by Waroo, which can be accessed on the Webtoon platform. The data is processed using descriptive qualitative linguistic research characteristics combined with ethnoscience analysis. Data was occupied by the distribution method using the BUL/Direct Element Sharing technique and coding. The result states that this inference is the conclusion of cognition based on the context built by involving participants, awareness, and over-paradigmatic relations to syntagmatic other ties. This inference is the role of the association of meaning to other linguistic units in understanding the context in terminating inference. The process and conclusion of all these factors and variables show the stimulative, systemic, and holistic linguistic correlation of metafunctions and stratification of linguistic domains.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research aims to determine the professional competence of Islamic religious education teachers and the implications of certification in improving their professionalism. Data was collected through observation and interviews using snowball and purposive sampling. The results of qualitative data analysis indicate that Islamic religious education teachers have implemented materials, structures, concepts and some relevant knowledge related to Islamic education in schools. They also possess the competence in designing and applying knowledge in the context of learning and mastering basic competencies based on their knowledge for curriculum development. Teachers have social, professional, pedagogical and digital literacy competencies for everyday learning. The implications of this certification program can be useful in the world of education.Keywords: Certifications; Islamic educational teachers; teachers competence and professionalism; vocational school

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran pesantren dalam membentuk karakter disiplin santri, landasan pembentukan karakter  disiplin, serta hambatan dan upaya pesantren dalam membentuk karakter disiplin santri di Pondok Pesantren Modern  Gontor 7 Riyadhatul Mujahidin Kabupaten Konawe Selatan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara, observasi dan dokumen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Pondok pesantren mengintensifkan karakter disiplin santri melalui pendidikan berbasis asrama dengan kurikulum yang terjadwal selama 24 jam. Selain itu, santri ditanamkan nilai-nilai panca jiwa yaitu jiwa keikhlasan, jiwa kesederhanaan, jiwa berdikari, jiwa ukhuwah islamiyah dan jiwa Kebebasan; (2) Landasan pembentukan karakter disiplin santri dilaksanakan melalui penerapan tata tertib pondok pesantren gontor yang dikenal dengan istilah “Teng Komando” yang bertujuan untuk melatih santri patuh terhadap pondok pesantren; (3) Hambatan pembentukan karakter disiplin santri adalah kurangnya kesadaran dan kemauan santri dalam mematuhi tata tertib disiplin di pondok pesantren serta adanya wali santri yang masih belum memahami tentang pola pendidikan yang diterapkan di pondok pesantren gontor. Upaya yang dilakukan pondok untuk mengatasi hambatan membentuk karakter disiplin santri adalah dengan mengefektifkan pembinaan di pondok, melakukan pengawasan terhadap seluruh kegiatan santri, pemberian sanksi secara tegas bagi santri yang melanggar serta memperkaya wawasan wali santri dengan menjalin komunikasi secara rutin.
