Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was aimed to determine of vitamin C concentration in young bilimbi (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) fruit with use UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The sample that used in this study was bilimbi fruit with the aged 14th days. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling. Determination of vitamin C concentration in 50 g of samples was carried out using UV-Vis spectrophotometry in the wavelength range in 200-400 nm. The calibration curve was determined from the absorbance value of standard vitamin C solution at concentrations of 5 ppm, 10 ppm, 15 ppm, 20 ppm, and 25 ppm. The results were showed that the maximum wavelength of vitamin C standard solution in 266.1 nm and the absorbance of the sample was 0.846. By determination of the calibration curve was obtained regression equation y = 0.0616x + 0.0865 with r value 0.986. This result it can be concluded that the concentration of Vitamin C in young bilimbi fruit was 0.0616%. Keywords : Vitamin C; Bilimbi fruit; Averrhoa bilimbi L.; UV-Vis Spectrophotometry

Abstract

Usaha Jamu Gendong (UJG) is a herbal medicine business carried out by individuals using traditional medicine ingredients in the form of fresh liquid to be sold directly to consumers. This service activity was aimed to increasing knowledge and providing skills on how to make good and safe jamu for UJG group in Bengkulu City. This activity was carried out on October 22, 2022 with 20 participants. This service activity is carried out using discussion and demonstration methods. Evaluation of activities is carried out by giving questionnaire sheets given before and after the activity. The results of the questionnaire evaluation obtained that the average score of 20 participants before and after the activity was 90.6 and 99.2, respectively. From the implementation of the activities, it can be concluded that there is an increase in the knowledge of the herbal medicine group regarding how to make good and safe traditional medicines.

Abstract

Nutmeg seed extract (Myristica fragrans Houtt) contains myristicin which have been an anti-inflammatory effect. Nutmeg seed extract is formulated into transdermal patch to avoid the first pass effect. This study was aimed to determine the best nutmeg extract patch transdermal formula using HPMC and EC as polymers. In this study, nutmeg extract was obtained by kinetic maceration method using 96% ethanol. The patch formula was designed into two formulas that have different types of polymer with a concentration of 4.5%, namely FP1 with HPMC polymer and FP2 with EC polymer. Patches that were evaluated for physical properties included organoleptics, weight uniformity, patch thickness, folding resistance test, drying shrinkage, absorbency test and pH. The results showed that FP1 had good organoleptic (elastic shape and even brown color); Uneven weight and thickness (SD < 0.05); Folding endurance test of 300 X; drying shrinkage 25%; absorption capacity of 8.1% and pH 6. Meanwhile, FP2 appears to have poor organoleptic properties (wrinkled shape and uneven brown color; uneven weight (SD < 0.05); uneven thickness (SD > 0.05); test folding resistance of 100 X, drying shrinkage 22.5%; absorption capacity of 20.2% and pH 6. In this study it can be concluded that FP1 with HPMC was the best formula for transdermal patch containing ethanol extract of nutmeg seeds.
