Abstract

ABSTRACT The ethanol extract of guava leaves (EEGL) is proven to heal various types of wounds. This study aims to determine the physicochemical characteristics of the EEGL ointment with a hydrocarbon base formula and examine the effect of the ointment against cut wounds on wistar male rat. The EEGL was obtained by maceration using 70% ethanol solvent. The ointment made 3 formulas with a ratio of hydrocarbon base composition (cera alba:vaselin album) namely F1 (2.5:92.5)%; F2 (5:90)%; F3 (7.5:87.5)%. The physicochemical characteristics of all ointments examined included organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. Organoleptic, homogeneity and pH data were analyzed descriptively, while viscosity, spreadability and adhesion data were analyzedstatistically. Testing the effect of all ointment formulas on the wound was done by applying 0.5 gram 2x a day for 9 days compared to wound control without treatment and positive control used commercial product. The parameter of effect measured was the length of the cut wound on the 9th day, then analyzed with the Kruskall Wallis test followed by the Mann Whitney test. The physicochemical characteristics of EEGL ointment (F1, F2, F3) are known that all ointment formulas are brown in color, typical of guava, homogeneous, pH according to skin pH, viscosity and adhesion are significantly different, while the spredability is not significant. The EEGL ointment had an effect on the cut wound of the male wistar rats, ie the length of the wound on the 9th day was reduced and compared to wound controlwas differentsignificantly. Keywords :Guava leaves, ointment, cut of wound.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can cause side effects of gastric ulcers. Based on previous research, it is known that pumpkin contains flavonoids which can protect the gastric mucosa. The aim of this study was to determine the gastroprotective effect of ethanol extract of Cucurbita moschata (Duch.) Poir fruit in male rats Wistar-induced by aspirin. The study used a randomized matched posttest only control group design. Cucurbita moschata (Duch.) Poir fruit extraction was carried out by ultrasonic method. A total of 24 rats were divided into 6 groups: normal control (CMC Na 0,5%; ulcer control (CMC Na 0,5%); positive control (ranitidine HCl 10 mg/kg BW); treatment group (Cucurbita moschata (Duch.) Poir fruit ethanol extract at dose of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW). Treatments lasted for 14 days. One hour after administering the test solution on the 14th day, all rats were given 200 mg/kg BW of aspirin (except normal controls) orally, then fasted for 12 hours. On the 15th day, all rats were sacrificed, dissected and their stomachs were taken. Gastric histology preparations were made with hematoxylin-eosin staining, microscopically read, discussed the number and severity of ulcers. Both data were processed and analyzed by Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney (95% confidence level). The results showed that the administration of EEBLK doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW resulted in a score of the number and severity of ulcers that were lower significantly than of ulcer controls (p

Abstract

ABSTRACTEthanol extract of bitter melon leaves at a concentration of 5% has been shown to have mucolytic activity. For ease of use that is made of dosage forms syrup. Thickening agent serves to increase the viscosity and resist settling process resulting in a stable syrup. Gelatin has the ability to improve settling extract better than other thickening. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of gelatin to the physical-chemical properties and activity of ethanol extract syrup mukolitik pare leaves the cow intestine mucus in vitro. Extraction of leaf bitter melon is done by percolation. EEDP was made into three syrup formulas using 1% (FII), 2% (FIII), 3% (FIV) gelatin thickener. There is also syrup without extract and gelatin (FI) as a control. The four syrup formulas were examined for physical chemical properties (organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity), and tested their mucolytic activity. Data on the results of activity tests in the form of viscosity were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis followed by Mann-Whitney. Data from organoleptic examination, homogeneity, Ph were analyzed descriptively, while viscosity with Linear Regression. The results showed that EEDP syrup with a gelatin concentration of 1%; 2%; 3% have mucolytic activity. The results of examination of the physico-chemical properties of FII, III, and IV syrups have the same taste and color, sweet and bitter, and are greenish black in color, while FI syrup is sweet and yellowish in color. Homogeneous FI syrup, FIII and FIV syrup are evenly distributed, while FII syrup has coarse particles. Fourth pH normal syrup formula. Increased concentration of gelatin (1%; 2%; 3%) can increase the viscosity of syrupKeywords: ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves, syrup, gelatin

Abstract

ABSTRACT Soursop leaves ethanol extract (SLEE) has been shown to lower blood levels of total cholesterol. However, it not yet investigated the effects on triglyceride and HDL levels. There is also no research on combining related soursop leaves with gemfibrozil. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of combination therapy SLEE and gemfibrozil to SLEE or gemfibrozil single treatment on decreasing triglyceride levels and increase HDL level in rats induced by high-fat feeding. Thirty male Wistar rats were divided into six groups (normal control, hyperlipidemia control, single gemfibrozil, single SLEE, 1st combination, and 2nd combination groups). Each group treated a high-fat feed two times a day for 14 days, except for the normal control. The test material was treated one time a day for five days. Measurement levels of triglycerides and HDL used GPO-PAP reagent and Direct Enzymatic Colorimetric Test. The data was analyzed by One-Way ANOVA test followed by Tukey's test. The results showed that SLEE can decrease triglyceride’s level and increase HDL levels of male Wistar rats. The combination of SLEE and gemfibrozil also can decrease triglyceride’s level and increase HDL level. However, there are no significances different between the efficacy of combination SLEE and gemfibrozil than SLEE or gemfibrozil single treatment in decreasing triglyceride's level and increase HDL levels of male Wistar rats. Abstract

ABSTRACTPeanut shell (PS) infusion has been shown to be antithrombocytopenia, but there has been no research on safety standards. This study aims to identify the symptoms of toxic effects, the potency of toxicity and histopathology of liver male Balb/C mice after a single dose of PS infusion. This research uses randomized matched posttest only control group design. Twenty five mice were divided into 5 orally dosage groups, ie, PS infusion with a dose of 0,026; 0.052; 0.104; 0.208 g/20gBW; and negative control of CMC Na 0.5%. The observation period is for 14 days. The results showed that single dose of PS infusion had a pseudo LD50 value ie > 0.208g/20gBW which was practically non toxic. Symptoms to watch out for the BW infusion were passive behavior, bradycnea, hair color change, hair loss, and weight loss at doses of 3 and 4. It is unclear whether liver damage ie inflammation, necrosis, and albuminous degeneration caused by PS infusion or other causes.keywords: acute toxicity, infusion, peanut shell
