Abstract

English has an important role in the world. Many parents try to introduce English to their children as early as possible. One way is to introduce bilingual children's story books as a medium for learning English at home. Therefore, it is necessary to control the quality of bilingual storybooks so that children can learn vocabulary properly and easy to understand and can use it in basic communication.The purpose of this study is to determine the semantic accuracy of the Indonesian and English equivalents and to determine the suitability of Indonesian and English equivalents for use by children.The research design used was a qualitative research design. The type of research was content analysis. The subject of this research was linguistic semiotics, which was a bilingual books. This story book was taken at random. The object of this research was the meaning contained in the Indonesian and English texts. The data analysis technique used is the equivalent method using the CEFR assessment. The results show that there are equivalent and not equivalent meanings, various CEFR levels, inconsistencies translation, and word for word translation technique. The conclusion in this study is the equivalence of the meaning of Indonesian - English words is mostly achieved. Based on the CEFR level, it is found that the A2 level is mostly at the beginner or basic user level. However, it is also found that the English equivalents are not suitable for children or for beginners based on CEFR levels such as C1 and C2 levels. There are inconsistencies in translation from the source language to the target/target language. Most of the translation techniques use word for word techniques.

Abstract

An Analysis of Ideology and Translation Quality on Bilingual text “NANDA” English into Indonesian Maryani Institute of Health Science Surya Global Yogyakarta marry.tenang@gmail.com Abstract Some facts indicate that the majority of nursing and medical books used in universities in Indonesia still written in a foreign language (English), but the nursing and medical students are still less able to read the English books. Therefore, this situation makes a translator of English source book into Indonesian needed in the academic community. This research is aimed to explain the ideologies and to assess the quality of accuracy, acceptability and rediability of the translation on the target text ‘NANDA’. This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The design was embedded case study focusing on a single case. Technique of collecting data was content analysis, reading technique and noting technique. The data were analyzed using equivalent method. The results of research show that the foregnization ideology tended to be used in this book. Then, the impact of the application of those translation techniques toward the quality of acceptability of the translation was good than others. The acceptable category got the first rank than accuracy and readibility, because the data found in this research were natural, smooth and flexible. It does not look like translation. Abstract

The English learning assistance community service aims to give knowledge of the use of basic English and vocabulary mastery, word order, and sentence order correctly. This training activity involved the students. Mentors in this activity were English lecturers who have good English skills and mastery. The implementation of the mentoring activities took place at Oemah Ngaji Arjosari, Turi, Sleman, Yogyakarta. This training was held to improve students' English language skills. The results of the activity showed that the students were very enthusiastic to participate in the learning activity which could be seen from their activeness and presence during the mentoring. From this training activity, it is expected that the students' English skills will improve.

Abstract

Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengajaran bahasa Inggris bagi siswa taman kanak-kanak terkait dengan materi menjaga kebersihan lingkungan. Pengabdian masyarakat ini sebagai sarana pembelajaran anak-anak agar dapat belajar bahasa Inggris yang dapat digunakan sehari-hari dengan cara menyenangkan. Pengajar merupakan dosen bahasa Inggris yang mengajarkan kosa kata dan ekspresi sederhana terkait menjaga kebersihan lingkungan. Hasil dari kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa taman kanak-kanak sangat antusias dan aktif dalam mengikuti kegiatan. Dari kegiatan ini, diharapkan bahwa keahlian berbahasa Inggris siswa akan meningkat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the similarities and differences both in the form and the function of the reduplication between Javanese and Madurese. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data were taken from Javanese and Madurese words. Madurese words will be collected randomly from some respondents who came from Madura, especially taken from daily conversation in the domain of the family.  And discourse in Madurese folktale. Whereas, Javanese words will be taken randomly from Djaka Lodang magazine edition of Desember 2020, November 2021, Januari 2022 and some informants who come from Java especially in Bantul-Yogyakarta. The result showed that there were some similarities between Javanese and Madurese reduplication in the forms, such as: full reduplication, partial reduplication, reduplication combined with affixation, reduplication with sound modification and the word resembles of reduplication. While in the function have two types, i.e. inflective reduplication and derivative reduplication. Meanwhile, for the differences of reduplication, Javanese does not have the forms of final syllable reduplication, whereas Madurese does have and it is very dominant in daily conversation both in the formal or informal situation. The functions of reduplication, Javenese has class word Noun to be Adjective, whereas Madurese does not have.

Abstract

This aims to design a syllabus for "Vocabulary English for Nursing" book for occupational purposes with a specific focus on enhancing vocabulary acquisition, speaking proficiency, and pronunciation skills. This study utilizes ADDIE primarily focusing on the Analysis and Design stages. The syllabus results in ten units, each unit was designed to foster dialogue practices, simple expressions, and vocabulary enrichment. The learning competencies integrated into this syllabus align with the Independent User B1 of CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment. The outcome of this study includes a designed syllabus for "Vocabulary English for Nursing" book and the organization of the book. Future research will cover the further stages.
