Abstract

Technology has been growing explosively and give positive impact to the educational system. Universities are starting to apply such the online platform or blended learning to enhance their teaching quality. Yet, the teaching media used in STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang is still in conventional model. Thus in order to update the teaching media in this institutuion, this present study investigated the use of schoology as online platform in enhancing the students’ cognitive performance. The participants is the fourth semester students of English education program in academic year 2019/2020. The content is limited to the translation subject. The method is quantitative research design. The data was collected through essay test of translation and anlayzed using SPSS 25. The result shows that the tcounted is higher than ttable (6,926 > 1,833). Thus, it confirms that the use of schoology can enhance the students’ cognitive performance especially on the translation task.

Abstract

Learning Management System (LMS) is currently being gradually integrated into the learning system especially in university level. Some studies have confirmed the good effects of applying the LMS toward the students’ motivation, learning outcome, and the teaching and learning quality. Unfortunately, most of the teaching model used in STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang is still in conventional form. Thus, the researcher intends to conduct the research on the use of moodle as one of LMS online platform as a mean of updating the teaching model used in this institution. Consequently, the present study investigated a research question. That is the extent to which the use of moodle affects the students’ motivation. The instruments used to collect the data is interview. The data collection was analyzed through descriptive analysis. The participants are all the second semester students of English education program in STKIP Muhammadiyah Enrekang in academic year 2019/2020. The result shows that the use of moodle can affect the students’ motivation. There are at least 3 reasons can be concluded for this fact. The first reason is the communication features on moodle help students to communicate easily with peers or teachers. The second reason is moodle can be access anywhere and anytime. The third reason is the economical factor.

Abstract

This research was found out whether the application of the webtoon media increases students' reading comprehension. A quasi experimental design was used in this research with the experimental class and the control class. The populations were students of SMK PGRI Enrekang for the academic year 2021/2022. The samples of this study were students of class X OTKP (15 students) as the experimental group and students of class X AKL (15 students) as the control group. This sample was taken by cluster sampling technique. This research applied the webtoon application media to the experimental group and the folktales to the control group. The instrument of this research was reading test. It used to determine students' reading comprehension in learning English. The researcher found that the use of webtoon media could improve the student’s reading comprehension of class X OTKP of SMK PGRI Enrekang because the average score after being given post-test treatment which was 85.00 higher than the control was post-test grade is 75.00. This proves that the experimental group is in to the good category. Based on the data, the researcher concludes that the webtoon media can improve students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study investigated the Students’ Perceptions on using instagram in learning english”. A qualitative research design was used in this study. The participants are 15 students from English education at Muhammadiyah University of Enrekang. The instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 30 statements. Google Form was used to obtain the data and the result was used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, the researcher concluded that the benefits of online reading in instagram have had a substantial effect on the knowledge of students’, and the students have strongly focused on the educational evaluation they read during learning. The data reported the highest percentage is 47% of the students agreed that instagram media supported their activity in reading during learning. However the lowest percentage is 7% of the students disagreed that instagram media supported their activity in reading during learning. It shows that students' perceptions are considered positive because most of the students agree that learning on instagram helped them to improve their reading comprehensions skills
