Abstract

Suruhan (Peperomia Pellucida L.) is one of the weed plants that grow wild in humid environments. This plant is commonly found in Indonesia and has been used by the community as a medicinal plant. The secondary metabolites contained oh suruhan are saponins, phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. These compounds are thought to provide antibacterial activity. The purpose of writing this literature review is to determine the compound of secondary metabolites, the antibacterial activity of the extract, and the effective concentration as an antibacterial agent. The method used is literature review by searching journals database with the Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scient Direct. Based on the literature review, the secondary metabolites contained are flavonoids, tannins, steroids, phenols, saponins, glycosides, anterquinone, pellucidin A, stigmasterol, and fucosterol. The antibacterial activity test showed that the extract was able to inhibit gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis, Propionibacterium acne, and Staphylococcus aureus, as well as gram-negative bacteria, such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella dysentriae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pseudomonas fluoescens, Escherichia coli, and Salmonella typhi. The activity produced by gram-negative bacteria is more sensitive than gram-positive bacteria. While the effective concentrations of n-hexane extract against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria were 10 mg/mL and 200 mg/L, the resulting inhibition zone diameters were 17.9 mm and 18 mm.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a disease that has never been identified in the human body before and is highly contagious. Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Due to the high number of casualties due to COVID-19, many ways have been done to treat the outbreak of this virus. One of them is the use of herbal medicines from plants that are believed to cure people with COVID-19. This study aims to describe the impact of herbal medicine on patients with Covid-19. Literature search using PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. Literature search strategy using keywords Traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, COVID-19, new coronavirus pneumonia, SARS-CoV-2. The results obtained, namely from 10 literature show that herbal treatment can reduce symptoms of Covid-19 and boost the immune system. The use of herbal medicines for COVID-19 needs to be considered carefully to support the limited scientific data.

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus and is spreading rapidly throughout the world. Several studies were conducted to find these antiviral agents, one of which is Remdesivir and Favipiravir. This literature study aims to examine the use of Remdesivir and Favipiravir as therapy in COVID-19 patients with a literature study. The research method used is a literature review with an electronic database of indexed journals with a journal publication time limit for 2019-2020 using the appropriate keywords. From the 10 literature that has been reviewed, it shows that the use of Remdesivir and Favipiravir in the treatment of COVID-19 provides an improvement in the patient's health condition.

Abstract

Karamunting leaves (Melastoma malabathricum L) have been widely used in traditional medicine due to various pharmacological activities related to its secondary metabolites, namely, flavonoids and tannins. The general objective of this research is to obtain the concentration of ethanol extract of karamunting leaves in a cream formulation that gives excellent physical properties and has antioxidant activity. The result showed extract antioxidant activity was in a very strong category with an IC50 value of 6,927 ppm. Cream with the best antioxidant activity in this study was F3 (3%) because it had the highest antioxidant activity in a strong category with an IC50 value of 60.38 ppm and had the best physical properties compared to F0 (negative control), F1 (1%), F2 (2%), and F4 (vitamin E). The freeze-thaw physical stability test showed that all formulas F0, F1, F2, F3, and F4 had good physical stability, namely, the physical properties did not differ significantly between before and after freeze-thaw for 5 cycles (p>0.05).

Abstract

Injury is a condition where tissue function and structure of the body are damaged. Incision wounds can occur intentionally or unintentionally by sharp or blunt instrument. Red betel plants, binahong, and gotu kola are plants that can heal an incisioun wound. The results are obtained by the method of collecting data which related to the study that being studied and analyzed descriptively. The results obtained indicate the secondary metabolites that play a role in incision wound healing process are flavonoids, tannins, and triterpenoids.

Abstract

Ischemic stroke is a condition resulting from a lack of blood flow to the brain. One of the therapies used for ischemic stroke is antiplatelet. Single antiplatelet therapy is generally preferred over combination antiplatelet therapy, because combination therapy results in increased bleeding, which outweighs any benefits. Various studies on the effectiveness of antiplatelet between the combination of aspirin and clopidogrel with aspirin in ischemic stroke patients have been carried out. However, until now there is no consensus that the outcome is better between single aspirin therapy with the aspirin-clopidogrel combination. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the combination aspirin-clopidogrel and aspirin in ischemic stroke. The method used in this study is a literature review using Google Scholar, PubMed, and Science Direct databases. From the 5 literature that has been reviewed, it shows that in patients with minor ischemic stroke the combination of aspirin-clopidogrel is more effective than single aspirin which is seen from several parameters including Modified Rankin Scale (mRS), European Quality of Life – 5 Dimension (EQ-5D), National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (aPTT), leukocyte platelet aggregation and leukocyte-platelet aggregate.

Abstract

Antibiotics are an effective therapy diseases caused by bacteria so that patients or the public sometimes use them as self-medication drugs. Due to the lack of knowledge and behavior of the community this can lead to cases of antibiotic resistance. The purpose was to determine the level of knowledge and behavior of the community towards the use of antibiotics in Kelurahan Dawi-Dawi, Southeast Sulawesi province. The knowledge and behavior of the community was obtained using a simple descriptive method, cross sectional, with an instrument in the form of a questionnaire that could be distributed to the community to be analyzed regarding the level of knowledge and behavior. This research has involved 196 test respondents. The results showed that the profile of the characteristics of the respondents were mostly female, 35-44 years old, last graduated from high school and worked as a housewife. For the overall results of Kelurahan Dawi-Dawi, Southeast Sulawesi province, having sufficient knowledge 42.9% and sufficient behavior 49.0%. The results of the test of the relationship between knowledge and people's behavior were obtained for the correlation coefficient value using the Spearman formula is Has a moderate correlation of 0.357, a significance of 0.000 with the direction (+).

Abstract

Dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has the potential as an antibacterial which can be formulated as an acne spot. Acne spot gel with active ingredients of dragon fruit peel extract was evaluated including olganoleptic, homogeneity, pH, dispersibility and viscosity as well as antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes. The results obtained showed that the acne spot gel dragon fruit peel extract was physically stable and had inhibition zones against P. acnes bacteria of 23.855 mm (F1) and 23.671 mm (F2) and against S. aureus bacteria of 22.127 mm (F1) and 23.410. mm (F2).
