Abstract

Coffee is one of the smallholder plantation commodities whose productivity development is quite potential and has a major influence on the development of the Jember District, especially the northern part of Jember. This research on coffee quality improvement using wet process technology was conducted at the Sukma Elang coffee farmer group in Sumbercandik, Panduman Village, Jelbuk Sub-district, Jember District. This research is one of the strategies to promote Jember products, especially in the field of coffee plantations as an effort to use environmental management technology in the Sumbercandik coffee plantation area. People's coffee in Jember still needs to be fostered in its cultivation, so the role of appropriate environmental management technology is very much needed. Wet process processing technology is one solution to increase optimal results with better quality. Coffee processing with wet process technology produces coffee beans with better quality and can be done on a small scale (farmer level). The purpose of this study is to improve the quality of the coffee beans produced so as to produce high economic value using wet process environmental management technology. The method used in this research was the collection of primary and secondary data. The harvesting equipment used was done by recording the type of harvesting equipment used in the coffee harvesting process in the garden. Analysis of research data includes testing the physical quality of coffee beans which is carried out referring to SNI No. 01-2907-2008. The results showed that wet process coffee processing technology could improve the physical quality and taste of coffee beans. However, further guidance is still needed on optimizing production through escort and group assistance in producing further coffee.

Abstract

Air Conditioning (AC) waste water has quite a lot of quantity, but usually AC waste water is directly discharged into the surrounding environment through AC waste water pipes. The objectives of the study were (1) to determine the discharge of AC waste water produced within 30 minutes and (2) to determine the effectiveness of the filter in reducing the pollutant content of AC waste water so that it is good for plant irrigation. The research was conducted by analyzing the quantity and quality of AC waste water in the CC Building, Muhammadiyah University of Jember. Parameters analyzed include hardness, pH and ammonia. One solution to sterilize AC wastewater is by using a sponge that is able to capture solids in the water before the water enters the container and activated charcoal which is considered to be able to reduce NH4 levels. One of the ingredients for making charcoal comes from coconut shells, which are relatively cheap. In addition to using coconut shell charcoal, exposure to UV rays is felt to reduce the bacteria contained in the AC water. UV light can function as a destroyer of bacteria and microorganisms so it is safe to use, both for living things and the environment. This study uses a descriptive qualitative    research with an evaluation approach which aims to determine the amount of air conditioning waste water within 30 minutes and to determine the physical and microbiological quality of AC waste water by analyzing the data and comparing it with the Minister of Health Regulation No. 32 of 2017 concerning Health Quality Standards for Sanitation, Swimming Pools, Solus Per Aqua and Public Baths. Data was collected by measuring the discharge of air conditioning, observation, interviews and documentation. The instrumentation used is a measuring cup, TDS meter, thermometer, turbidity meter, timer, sample bottle, Bunsen, alcohol and ice box. Based on the results of the examination of the quality of the AC wastewater with specifications of AC 1 PK, the results of the examination of physical and microbiological parameters that meet the requirements in accordance with the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 32 of 2017 concerning Health Quality Standards for Sanitation, Swimming Pools, Solus Per Aqua and Public Baths.

Abstract

The growth in the number of people affects the production of waste that is not processed properly. Indiscriminate disposal of waste results in environmental pollution which will have an impact on other lives. In addition, the low level of public awareness in sorting waste according to its type contributes to environmental pollution. The existence of these problems certainly requires an innovation that can support and increase public awareness, especially from an early age, in waste management. This Stimulus Community Partnership Program (PKMS) activity is one of the strategies to provide literacy assistance in waste management to the younger siblings of the Putri Aisyiyah Jember Orphanage. Understanding regarding the importance of protecting the environment, the dangers of waste if it is not managed properly, needs to be given early, from an early age. The waste management literacy assistance consists of several activities, including: socialization of the dangers of waste, its types, material value for waste (4R) reduce, reuse, recycle and replace, then ends with activities of sorting garbage around the orphanage and grouping according to type . This PKMS activity has been completed, so that it reaches the evaluation stage of the entire process of community service activities. The results of the evaluation of the younger siblings: they were greatly helped by the existence of these activities as for increasing literacy in keeping the environment clean and not disposing of waste in an inappropriate place. Appreciation was also given by the managers of the girls' orphanage who were grateful for helping people care about their own environment. It is hoped that the community will begin to be aware of the effectiveness of waste management in the future.
