The sample in the study were 30 mothers and students at SLBN 1 Jambi City with mental retardation. The sampling technique used purposive sampling method. The data analysis used in this study is the Spearman test. Results: 1) The correlation coefficient and P-value of the relationship between parental knowledge and the level of knowledge of mentally retarded children are 0.492 and 0.006, 2) The correlation coefficient and P-value of the relationship between parental knowledge and adherence to brushing teeth in mentally retarded children are 0.921 and 0.000, 3) The correlation coefficient and P-value of the relationship between the level of knowledge of parents and the free plaque score of mentally retarded children are 0.489 and 0.006, 4) The correlation coefficient and P-value of the relationship between the level of knowledge and adherence to brushing teeth of mentally retarded children are 0.386 and 0.035, 5) The coefficient value the correlation and P-value of the relationship between the level of knowledge and the free plaque score of mentally retarded children were 0.185 and 0.329, 6) The correlation coefficient and P-value of the relationship between children's tooth brushing adherence and the free plaque score of mentally retarded children at SLBN 1 Jambi City were 0.428 and 0.018Conclusion: 1) there is a significant relationship with moderate strength between the knowledge level of parents and the level of knowledge of mentally retarded children, 2) there is a significant relationship with very strong strength between the level of parental knowledge and adherence to brushing teeth in mentally retarded children, 3) there is a significant relationship with has sufficient strength between the level of parental knowledge and the free plaque score of mentally retarded children, 4) there is a significant and low strength relationship between the level of knowledge and adherence to brushing teeth of mentally retarded children, 5) there is no relationship with very low strength between the level of knowledge and the child's free plaque score mentally retarded, 6) there is a significant relationship with sufficient strength between children's tooth brushing compliance with free plaque scores of mentally retarded children at SLBN 1 Jambi City

Abstract

The results of the seiwak research carried out by researchers in 2021 show that there is a significant difference in the mean OHI-S score between the use of siwak wood as a toothbrush tool in the intervention group and the control group who only brushed their teeth, namely -3,259 ± 0.00. This difference shows that using miswak as a toothbrush aid is more effective in cleaning teeth and mouth than just brushing your teeth. The results of an initial survey conducted at the Kumpeh Da Aru Attauhid Islamic boarding school, of the 10 students who were asked how and the benefits of miswak, only one person could answer. The type of service carried out to the village partner communities is a program to improve the level of dental and oral health at the Kumpeh Da Aru Attauhid Islamic Boarding School, Muaro Jambi Regency. Only 20.5% of respondents had a high level of knowledge before the intervention, namely 41 people consisting of 21.80% poor OHIS, 4% moderate, and 2% good. Respondents who had a high level of knowledge criteria after the intervention were 99%, namely 198 people consisting of 0% poor OHIS, 1% moderate, and 99% good. The statistical test output shows the p-value of knowledge and OHI-s of Santri is 0.000. Because the value of 0.0000 < 0.05 means there is a difference between the level of knowledge and OHI-IS pre-test and post-test, it can be concluded that community service by providing education on brushing teeth and using miswak as a tool can improve the OHI-S of students.

Abstract

Knowledge of dental and oral health in children is crucial for improving their behavior in maintaining oral hygiene. Behaviors developed from childhood will have a positive impact in adulthood. This research aims to describe the knowledge of how to maintain dental and oral health among 4th and 5th-grade students at SDN 23/IX Pondok Meja. The research method used is a descriptive survey method. The study population consists of 46 students, with 21 students in 4th grade and 25 students in 5th grade. This study employed total sampling, meaning the entire population was sampled. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire. The results of this study showed that knowledge of dental and oral health maintenance among 4th and 5th-grade students at SDN 23/IX Pondok Meja in 2024 included the following: in brushing teeth, 28% had high knowledge, 50% had medium knowledge, and 22% had low knowledge. Knowledge about food impacting oral health was 63% for high criteria, 33% for medium criteria, and 4% for low criteria. Knowledge about using health services to maintain oral health was 28% for high criteria, 52% for medium criteria, and 20% for low criteria. The students' knowledge about dental and oral health is best in the area of foods that promote dental health, whereas their knowledge is less comprehensive regarding regular dental check-ups at health facilities.
