Abstract

Eclectism in architecture is seen as an emerging style driven by the desire or effort to immitate and apply elements of interest to compose a new form at architecture. Ecletic architecture has also developed in South Borneo. The mansory houses are evidence of ecleticsm development process in local architecture. Merchants holds an inportant role in this eclectism process, due to intensive cultural contacts inherited within this society. The intensity of the cultural contact plays a substantial part form the aculturation process. This intensity of cultural contact is the main part of alculturation process, which increased after the fall of Banjar Kingdom in mid 19th century.
