Abstract

The shelf life of fresh fish was relatively short. Damage the gills of fish such as color turned pale, texture is very soft, foul odor can be caused by bacteria. Coating method was using chitosan (CS) in an aerobic in order to preserve the fresh Pangasius sp. has been done in this study. Finding the best time preservation and influence of the degree of deacetylation of CS are purposes of this study. CS 1 and CS 2 were synthesized with difference of number of deacetylation. A number of CS was dissolved in acetic acid 1% to obtain 2.5% a solution of CS. The samples were soaked for 30 minutes in a solution of CS and then put in a plastic bag and stored for 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 hours. It were analyzed the amount of bacteria using the TPC method and organoleptic value. The results showed that the ability of antibacterial of CS 2 better than CS 1. The best time of preservation obtained at the 14th hour that was able to suppress the growth of bacteria while 7.103 col/g.

Abstract

The microwave has been used for various applications of organic synthesis. Microwave was used in this  study in order to transform chitin to chitosan. Theprocess of deacetylation of chitin was done by varying heating time 3, 7, 11, and 15 minutes under of power of 400 W. Two grams of chitin were mixed with 40 mL of NaOH solution 70% in a beaker glass. The mixtureput into the apparatus microwave in constant temperature at 70°C. Chitosan was washed until neutral and then was dried in oven. The Degree of Deacetylation (DD) were analyzed using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) instrument. The results that showed the degree of deacetylation is 85.32% was achieved at reaction time in 15 minutes. The parameters of chitosan such as moisture content, ash content,  and viscosity were obtained 9.23%, 0.16% and 58.05  cP, respectively.

Abstract

SYNTHESIS OF SUGAR FROM ORGANIC WASTES VIA ACID CATALYSTHYDROLYSIS. Hydrolysis process is an important step from every process to produce biofuel withorganic wastes as raw material. Hydrolysis process with chemical uses hydrochloride acid as catalystin which will transform holocellulose to glucose. Raw material of 100 grams is put into hydrolysisreactor with batch system equipped with pressure control and ratio hydrochloride of 1 : 6 w/v. Thevariables studied were temperature of 110-140oC, HCl concentration of 0.5-1%, time of hydrolysis of15-60 minutes. The sugar concentration was taken and then be analyzed by Nelson-Somogy method. The hydrolysis, which was carried out with the temperature of 120oC, time of 30 minutes, HClconcentration of 0.75%, and the pressure of 6 bar, produced sugar reduction of 27.3 mg/mL and yieldof 15.07%.

Abstract

The economy of Salo Palai Village local communities, Muara Badak District, Kutai Kertanegara Regency, relies on plantations, livestock and marine and land fisheries. One of the superior plantation products in Salo Palai Village is pepper commodity. However, there are problems faced including the method of processing pepper is traditional, lack of technology and does not consider quality and cleanliness standards. To reach the world market, it is necessary to pay attention to the quality requirements and consumer tastes. For this reason, the community service aims to improve the quality of pepper in terms of post-harvest processing through assistance in the use of pepper grinders in order to produce pepper powder that provides added value and meets established quality standards. This community service is carried out with workshops covering technology transfer and assistance in the use of pepper grinders, which are expected to open new knowledge and skills for farmers. The results obtained that the local community of Salo Palai Village were able to operate a pepper grinder and were able to produce pepper powder in accordance with the quality standards.

Abstract

Tembang and anchovy fish caught by fishermen from Muara Badak Ilir are generally processed into dried salted fish. Currently, the fish drying process is carried out in unsanitary environmental conditions and is highly dependent on the weather. The fish are dried on a rack which is placed in the field and takes 2-3 days. The purpose of this community service is to assist fishermen in solving fish drying problems by designing a mechanical drying device, namely a tray dryer with a capacity of 100 kg. The activities are carried out in four stages, namely: (1) the interview stage; (2) tool design stage; (3) training stage; and (4) evaluation. The service team ensures that the dried salted fish produced meets SNI 8273:2016 standards. The results of the activity evaluation shows that partners are very satisfied with the service activities carried out. The application of a tray dryer based on biomass energy is expected to help increase the productivity of fishermen so that they can increase the welfare of fishermen in the Muara Badak Ilir area.

Abstract

Dye waste that contains synthetic dyes like Direct Black 38, Remazol Yellow FG, and Reactive Red 2 in high concentration, is the main source of water pollution which can decrease the quality and ecosystem of water due to its difficult degradation properties. Physical and chemical adsorption method using adsorbent like activated carbon-chitosan composites can be carried out to decrease the concentration of dye waste. The purpose of this research is to find out the adsorption capacity of activated carbon-chitosan composites on Remazol Yellow FG dye waste using fixed bed column continuous system. The composites were made by adding 1:1 of the activated carbon into chitosan solution and then dropping it into the 15% NaOH-96% Ethanol in 4:1 v/v as the coagulant. Then, composites were used to adsorb the dye waste in order to find out the adsorption capacity. Next, samples were analyzed using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer. The results showed the optimum point was on 8 mL/min flow rate. The best adsorpstion capacity of 1.21781 mg/g was obtained in Thomas and Yoon-Nelson’s Models.

Abstract

Start up is the first step in the operation of the factory. The start-up process at the Ammonia Plant Operations department 1A requires some preparation, namely draining the entire system with nitrogen and the required system line-up. Nitrogen circulation is used for heating up several units, such as reformers and bycatch. Heating up is done so that the temperature of the reformer and bycatch units can be quickly achieved and the process can take place immediately. The description of the heating up process when improvised nitrogen circulation is carried out using a natural gas booster compressor, this process simultaneously goes through the desulfurized unit for heating up. So there is no need to use natural gas for heating up the desulfurization unit and then throwing it away. The responses carried out are data analysis, data collection and data processing. Based on the results of the economic analysis, it can be seen that at start-up by carrying out improvement conditions it will be more efficient because natural gas that is usually wasted is no longer wasted and gains additional profits from the gas, production will be 3 hours faster so that profits increase, and save the amount of process gas and fuel used for the start-up process for 3 hours. And the time needed to return the capital issued is four times the start up.
