Abstract

The aim of this service activity is to increase the understanding of Entrop Elementary School teachers about one of the basic concepts of mathematics, namely prime factorization, its application in solving mathematical problems, as well as creative aids that can be used in teaching the concept to students. The method used is the explanation of mathematical concepts about factors, prime factors, and prime factorization of a number with examples of its application in solving mathematical problems. After that, examples of teaching aids which can be used to explain prime factorization to students are given. The result of this activity is an increase in the understanding of Entrop Public Elementary School teachers about the mathematical concepts of prime factorization, this can be seen by comparing their pre-test and post-test scores. Of the 23 teachers who participated in the activity, 80% experienced an increase in the understanding of the concept.Keywords: entrop, factors, prime factors, prime factorization, mathematic

Abstract

SD YPK 1 Imanuel Hamadi is one of private schools which was established by the Christian Education Foundation (YPK) in Papua. The purpose of this service activity is to recharge the understanding of the concept of fractions in teachers in the school such that they can explain fractions to their students more easily. The method used in this activity is the presentation about fractions and fraction operations accompanied by several examples that can help the teachers to better understand the concept of fractions. The teachers were also given the opportunity to directly ask questions when there was material they did not understand. The result of evaluation shows that after participating in this activity, the understanding of the teachers about the concept of fractions is increased significantly. Keywords: recharging, fractions, mathematics, teachers, SD YPK 1 Hamadi

Abstract

SD YPK 1 Imanuel Hamadi adalah sekolah swasta yang bernaung di Yayasan Pembelajaran Kristen (YPK) di tanah Papua. Terdapat 13 orang guru yang mengajar di sekolah yang terakreditasi B tersebut. Salah satu masalah yang dihadapi guru di sekolah tersebut adalah dalam mengajarkan materi geometri bidang. Hampir semua guru di sekolah tersebut mengalami kesulitan mengajarkan materi geometri bidang karena kurangnya pemahaman guru tentang konsep geometri yang berakibat guru menghadapi masalah dalam menjelaskan materi tersebut pada peserta didik. Untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi para guru di sekolah sasaran tersebut diputuskan untuk melaksanakan kegiatan pelatihan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman konsep geometri bidang. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah tentang geometri bidang dengan menyertakan beberapa contoh guna membantu para guru untuk mengajarkan geometri bidang pada siswa. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan pemberian soal pre-test sebelum pemaparan materi dimulai yang hasilnya dibandingkan dengan soal post-test yang diberikan kepada para guru setelah pemaparan materi dilaksanakan. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan tingkat pemahaman guru mengalami kenaikan sebesar 31% pada materi unsur dan sifat bangun datar, dan 58% pada materi hubungan antara bangun datar.
