Abstract

White turmeric rhizome (Curcuma mango Val) and galangal rhizome (Alpinia galanga) have been widely studied to have antibacterial activity. One of the causes of acne is bacteria, such as Staphylococcus epidermidis. The purpose of this study was to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration of the ethanol extract of white turmeric (Curcuma mangga Val) and galangal (Alpinia galanga) rhizome against acne-causing bacteria and its effectiveness after it was formulated in gel form. Simplicia was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 96% solvent. The extract was formulated in the form of a gel with various concentrations of CMC Na. The results of the gel antibacterial evaluation showed that the ethanol extract gel of white turmeric rhizome (Curcuma mangga Val) and galangal rhizome (Alpinia galangal) showed antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis bacteria.

Abstract

Penyakit infeksi yang paling umum terjadi yaitu jerawat. Infeksi ini disebabkan oleh bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Salah satu tanaman tradisional yang dapat digunakan sebagai antibakteri yaitu tanaman papaya. Dalam penelitian sebelumnya disebutkan bahwa biji papaya mengandung senyawa terpenoid, karpin, dan flavonoid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fraksi teraktif, mengetahui nilai KHM, dan mengetahui profil KLT Bioautografi dari fraksi teraktif biji papaya yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Proses ekstraksi dilakukan dengan metode maserasi dengan etanol 70%, kemudian fraksinasi dilakukan dengan etil asetat, etanol, dan aquadest. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metede sumuran dengan media Mullerhinton. Fraksi dengan zona hambat terbesar dilakukan uji bioautografi untuk mengetahui golongan senyawa aktif sebagai antibakteri. Ekstrak biji papaya yang difraksinasi dengan etilasetat memili rata rata 5 mm, fraksi etanol 6,76 mm, dan fraksi aquadest 11,4 mm. Fraksi terkatif kemudian dilanjutkan untuk diuji dengan KLT dengan fase gerak n-butanol: air: asam asetat (4:5:1) dengan hasil nili Rf sebasar 1, 0,88, 0,83. Hasil dari KLT semprot fraksi aquadest positif mengandung flavonoid, alkaloid, karbonil, dan terpenoid. Pengujian KLT bioautografi fraksi aquadest diperoleh daerah hambatan pada Rf 0,72. Berdasarkan penelitian ini dapat diketahui bahwa fraksi teraktifnya yaitu fraksi aquadest.
