Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis in the elderly can lead to an increase in the intensity of pain caused by inflammation. One non-pharmacologic therapies are used to reduce the intensity of pain using a combination of warm and cold compresses. Warm compresses and cold compresses can be trusted increase the pain threshold. The purpose of this study was to prove whether or not the intensity changes Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain in the Elderly. The method used is a pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study was the total population of elderly with rheumatoid arthritis were taken with total sampling with 20 respondents. The instrument used in this study is a fixed procedure granting of warm and cold compresses. Results presented descriptively and presented in the form of the frequency distribution table. Known pain scale respondents before and after treatment showed a decrease given pain scale. It shows, there Rheumatoid Arthritis Pain Intensity Changes in the Elderly by Providing Combination Warm and cold compresses. Said gate control theory of cutaneous stimulation warm and cold compresses nerve fibers activate the sensor A-beta big where when stimulus tactile (feeling) that dominates in the gelatinous substance to be met so that the pain gate closes the gate synapses transmission / unobstructed pain stimulus resulted in a decrease in pain intensity. Based on the above results, it is expected the combination of warm and cold compresses can be used by respondent to reduce the intensity of joint pain in addition to pharmacological therapy.Keywords: warm and cold compresses, rheumatoid arthritis pain

Abstract

Prayers is a worship required of Muslims. Prayers can be a meditation that can induce the relaxation response. Relaxation can affect blood pressure in hypertensive patients but is not yet known whether the prayer relaxation can lower blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of prayer is there humility to the reduction of blood pressure in patients with hypertension. This research method using pre-experimental design (One group pretest-posttestdesign). This study uses a sampling technique Nonprobability Sampling with Purposive Sampling types. Total population of 80 respondents and the amount of sample is 10 respondents who fit the inclusion criteria. Data collection techniques by observation accuracy the presence of prayer and tensimeter. The results showed a majority of 10 respondents have hypertension stage 2 by 5 respondents (50%) before performing prayers and 5 respondents (50%) were on previously normal blood pressure blood pressure are at stage 1 stage 2 and stage 3 after prayers. The result of analysis by using paired T-tes on systolic blood preasure before and after the prayer humility’ obtained p=(0,193) over α=(0,05) so that it can be concluced Ho accepted and H1 rejected, which means there is no effect of prayer humility’ against the decline in systolic blood pressure in patient with hypertension. Whereas the results of analysis by using paited T-test on diastolic blood pressure before and after the prayers humility obtained p=(0,003) is less than α=(0,05) so that it can be concluced Ho rejected, which means there is the influence of prayer humility to decrease the pressure diatolic blood in patient with hypertension in Hamlet Village Jangar Ngarjo Mooanyar District of Mojokerto. Patients with high blood pressure or hypertension can perform their prayers were done in humilit as a therapy to keep blood pressure remained stable.Keywords: Prayer Humility, Blood Pressure, Hypertension

Abstract

The number of elderly is increasing, so the elderly with various changes in both the biological, social, cultural, economic, health, and psychology of the most vulnerable groups with variety of mental and behavioral problems, namely depression. Social support can affect the incriedence of depression in the elderly. Purpose of this study was to defermined the incidence of depression in elderly on Suwaluh Village Balong Bendo District Sidoarjo. Therefore it is necessary to know whether there is social support or not, that can affect depression in elderly. This research use, a correlational analytic design with cross sectional approach. The population is all elderly which in Suwaluh Village, which is about 45 elderly, and who included in criteria to studied was 25 elderly. Data collection using support questionnaires and GDS (Geriatric Depression Scale). The results showed that elderly who get social support as many 17 respondents (68%), and who experienced mild depression as many as 12 respondents (32%). Spearman rho test result, obtain ed a value p (0,291) > α (0,005) means that Ho accepted.Results of research which states that there is no relationship of social support on depression in the elderly because it is not consistent with the theory. The presence of social support, the elderly can become depressed because think of negative things about the environment too much. Occurrence of depression experienced by the elderly could also be due to stay at home.
