Abstract

Virgin coconut oil (VCO) contains medium chain fatty acids of which 45-50% lauric acid. Lauric acid has been proven to become a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial agent. The objective of this study was to analyze of physico-chemical properties and antioxidant activity of VCO using Ordinary Tall Coconut Cultivars of North Halmahera with fermentation process. The results showed lauric acid (C12) is fatty acid (FA) in VCO were found containing predominantly 47.07%, while the total phenol content is about 11.23 mg GAE/ 100 g oil and antioxidant activity was determined using DPPH is 9.76 %. Especially for free fatty acid (FFA) content is range from 0.23%, iodine value is about 7.75%, the saponification value is about 256.39 (mg KOH/g), and moisture content ranges from 0.32%. The color is clear (colorless) and it is real aromatic coconut (VCO). Collectively, all results obtained in this study were found comparable with the Standard APCC except for linoleic acid, which has a slightly lower value compared to the standard value.

Abstract

The community service activities that have been carried out aim to increase community knowledge about organic farming and organic fertilizer as well as skills in how to make organic fertilizer to support community agricultural management. The methods used in this service activity are counseling, discussion and demonstration of making solid organic fertilizer. The solid organic fertilizer made is organic fertilizer based on livestock manure and gamal leaves. The tools used in making fertilizer are shovels, hoes, buckets, scales, tarpaulins and drums, while the materials used are livestock manure, granulated sugar, EM4, water. The results of the activity show an increase in knowledge and skills in making organic fertilizer

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers in terms of organic farming, composting and liquid organic fertilizer. This activity was carried out in Wari Ino Village, Tobelo District, North Halmahera Regency, lasting for 5 days with participants being a number of Wari Ino Village farmers who live in circle of the Campus of Polytechnic Perdamaian Halmahera. Activities are divided into preparation, counseling, training activities and making vegetable crop plots and conducting evaluations.  The results of the evaluation of the implementation of organic agricultural extension and training in making composters and liquid organic fertilizers show that there is an increase in farmers' knowledge and skills.
