<![CDATA[ABSTRACT Cholesterol is one of the causes of plaque buildup in human blood vessels. The accumulation of this plaque will cause blood vessels to become narrowed so that it will cause pressure in high blood vessels. One disease that can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood is hypertension. To determine the relationship between total cholesterol in the blood and the incidence of hypertension at the Internal Medicine Poly of Merauke Hospital. This research is quantitative with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study was patients who came for treatment to Polik Internal Medicine RSUD Merauke. The sample size obtained in this study was 135 samples. The test carried out is the chi square test to determine the relationship between cholesterol variables and the degree of hypertension. The results showed that the most age was between >41 years old 131 people (97%), female gender amounted to 85 people (63%), Islam amounted to 61 people (45.2%), secondary and higher education was 48 people (35.6%), TNI / POLRI / PNS amounted to 38 people (28.1%), married amounted to 128 people (94.8 people), Javanese and other tribes numbered 55 people and 53 people, Hypercholesterolemia amounted to 111 people (82.2%) and moderate hypertension amounted to 85 people (63%). There is a significant relationship between cholesterol levels in the blood with the incidence of hypertension degree with p-value = 0.001. Keywords: Total Cholesterol Levels, Hypertension, Merauke Hospital Regency ABSTRAK Kolesterol merupakan salah satu penyebab terjadinya penumpukan plak di dalam pembuluh darah manusia. penumpukkan plak ini akan menyebabkan pembuluh darah menjadi menyempit sehingga akan menimbulkan tekanan dalam pembuluh darah tinggi. Salah satu penyakit yang dapat dalam peningkatan jumlah kolesterol dalam darah yaitu hipertensi. Untuk mengetahui adanya hubungan kolesterol total dalam darah dengan kejadian derajat hipertensi di Poli Penyakit Dalam RSUD Merauke. Penelitian ini kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah pasien yang datang berobat ke Polik Penyakit Dalam RSUD Merauke. Besar sampel yang didapatkan dalam penelitian ini adalah 135 sampel. Uji yang dilakukan yaitu uji chi square untuk menentukkan adanya hubungan antara variabel kolesterol dengan derajat hipertensi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan umur paling banyak adalah antara >41 tahun 131 orang (97%), jenis kelamin perempuan berjumlah 85 orang (63%), agama islam berjumlah 61 orang (45,2%), pendidikan menengah dan tinggi yaitu 48 orang (35,6%), TNI/POLRI/PNS berjumlah 38 orang (28,1%), menikah berjumlah 128 orang (94,8 orang), suku jawa dan lainyya berjumlah 55 orang dan 53 orang , hiperkolesterolemia berjumlah 111 orang (82,2%) dan hipertensi sedang berjumlah 85 orang (63%).
