Abstract

Infection due to tuberculosis bacteria will cause inflammation in the body which will stimulate the emergence of C-Reactive Protein as a biomarker of inflammation. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a polypeptide molecule of the pentraxin group which is produced in the liver and controlled by cytokines especially Interleukin-6 (IL-6). CRP is useful for monitoring disease progression. CRP concentration is related to disease severity, infection and treatment effect. The purpose of this community service is to see CRP (C-Reactive Protein) levels in tuberculosis sufferers in the Cilawu sub-district and provide an understanding of CRP examination. The method used is counseling with LCD and examination of CRP levels in tuberculosis patients. The sufferers are collected in a house that has been mutually agreed upon. The results of the activity were that most of those present had CRP examination results on the 30 samples that had been examined, 24 people (80%) had positive results, and 6 people (20%) had negative results. CRP levels in positive tuberculosis patients obtained various results between 6 mg/L to 192 mg/L. Conclusion: the results of this community service illustrate that there is an inflammatory response of CRP to tuberculosis bacterial infection. After carrying out counseling and examining CRP levels, the community, especially tuberculosis sufferers, became aware and interested in carrying out CRP examinations as a form of monitoring the level of infection they were suffering from

Abstract

Water is one of the most important needs for daily life, especially well water. In the Garut district area well water is used for daily activities ranging from washing, drinking, bathing, ablution to being used for drinking water consumption. This study aims to isolate and identify well water from 10 villages located in the Garut Regency. Sampling was done using purposive sampling method. The test was followed by a presumptive test using Lactose Broth (LB), a reinforcing test using 2% BGLB media and a complementary test consisting of EMB agar media and biochemical tests. The results showed that of the 10 well water samples, 7 met the requirements of proper water quality and 3 did not meet the requirements of clean water with MPN values from three villages, namely Kampung Tanjung kamuning 200/ml, Kampung salaawi 241/100ml and Kampung Cipepe 241/100ml. EMB agar media is characterized by the formation of a metallic green color with black spots colonies and biochemical tests that show the well water has been contaminated with Escherichia coli bacteria.

Abstract

Abstract

Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a bacterium that causes the infectious disease pulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Bayongong District is ranked second in terms of TB cases found in Garut Regency. The involvement of adolescents in controlling TB disease is needed as an agent of change to increase early detection of TB in their family members. With early detection of TB disease, treatment can be started quickly and transmission can be controlled. To increase teenagers' knowledge and awareness of TB disease, it is necessary to provide education to teenagers, namely high school students in Bayongbong District, about the importance of recognizing symptoms, transmission, prevention and treatment, as well as laboratory examinations for TB disease. Education is carried out by presenting material related to TB disease. Apart from that, students were also shown a video on how to carry out a TB examination using BTA (Acid Fast Bacteria) staining and TCM (Rapid Molecular Test). Before and after education, each student received a questionnaire designed to measure their level of knowledge. After community service, education about TB disease among high school students resulted in an increased understanding of TB symptoms, transmission, prevention, treatment and examination.
