Abstract

Some difficulties of the speakers in using the diexis in the social interaction, and make the speakers misunderstand the message of utterances. The research aimed to find out the types and function of deixis in the Raya and The Last Dragon movie script. The deixis are always found in the daily interaction. The deixis were analyzed in the interaction or the utterance in which related to the people, something, place and time. The research applied qualitative descriptive through pragmatic approach in analyzing the data. The data were obtained by reading, identifying, highlighting the words that contained deixis in the utterance based on Levinson theory. The results show that there were five types of deixis used in movie script namely person deixis, time deixis, place deixis, discourse deixis and social deixis. Person deixis was the most dominant types used in movie script. Every deixis has different functions based on the types of deixis such as: person deixis has 6 functions, time deixis has 3 functions, place deixis has 3 functions, discourse deixis has 2 functions and social deixis has 5 functions.

Abstract

The research aimed to find out the types of speech acts and the function of speech acts produced by the main character which contained in Anomalisa movie script written by Charlie Kaufman. The researcher used qualitative descriptive and pragmatic approach in analyzing the data. The data were obtained by reading, identifying, classifying the words that contained speech acts in the main character’s utterance in the movie script by applying the Austin and Searle’s theories. The results show that there were three types of speech acts used in Anomalisa movie script, they were (1) Locutionary(2) Illocutionary (3) Perlocutionary, each speech acts have functions, they were (1) Locutionary which consisted of imperative, interrogative and declarative. (2) Illocutionary which consisted of directive, assertive, commissive and expressive. Then, (3) Perlocutionary which consisted of act of laughing, act of asking, act of scaring, act of inviting and act of persuading. The dominant speech act used in the movie script of Anomalisa is Illocutionary.

Abstract

The research aims to analyze the speech behavior of the main character, Kevin, who has a psychological issue, namely Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) in Split movie script, which causes Kevin to have several different characters in one body. The data analyze the process of forming and trigger factors in speech behaviour in the Split movie script using qualitative descriptive method with B.F Skinner’s theory. The result shows there are two process of forming behavior namely classical conditioning, each of them has its own purpose in taking the main personality based on their will and operant conditioning process of each character that appears to takes control of the main personality because of the response from someone who makes them have to take control that emerges through this process is due to response given by others. The trigger factor in speech behaviour based on three process namely natural selection, each character taking control of the main personality due to their own desires, cultural control triggered each one of them to takes control through the main personality that control from people around and internal condition takes control due to encouragement by someone who makes them feel fear, anger and anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the leadership style and individual development of Robinson Crusoe in Daniel Defoe's novel, this research is expected to be a reference for further researchers. The data source used in this research is Robinson Crusoe's Novel. In analyzing the data, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive research method. The data were obtained by using reading, note-taking, and analyzing techniques through a sociological approach to literary works and to classify the leadership styles contained in the novel, the researcher used the theory of John Adair and McClelland. The results of the research show that the leadership of Robinson Crusoe could make and execute strategies and vision well, found ideas to find plans, and created and implement Robinson Crusoe's self-development to be felt and improved. Researchers could conclude that Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe explored how humans change from helpless creatures to leaders. The visionary leadership, it could be concluded that Robinson Crusoe was able to adapt himself as a leader who was responsible for the decisions he would carry out and Robinson Crusoe was learned to lead himself.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the symbolic meaning in traditional clothes of Makassar through a semiotic study. This research is a research that uses qualitative descriptive methods with Charles Sanders Pierce's semiotic analysis. The objective of this research is what are the symbolic elements in traditional clothes of Makassar and what are the symbolic meaning in traditional clothes of Makassar. Data collection techniques in this research began with observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The informants, who are considered experts in this research, are a traditional figure as well as historian of Makassar and Anrong Bunting (wedding makeup stylist). From the results of the research conducted, then revealed in traditional clothes of Makassar has certain symbolic elements that are very dependent on the social status and age of the wearers, namely in terms of types, shapes, materials, accessories, colors, and the way to use of sarong. Traditional clothes of nobles are interpreted in terms of accessories, the quality of materials made of silver and gold. For ordinary people are made of brass or bronze. And in terms of colors, green for noble daughters, red for teenage girls, deep red for married women, purple for widows, white for caregivers, and black for the elderly or those aged 40 years. The symbolic meaning of the way to use sarong in Makassar man is as a symbol of etiquette, and for women it is a symbol of authority. The meaning in traditional clothes of Makassar for man and women is a symbol of honor and majesty. While the meaning of the accessories worn by Makassar man and women is the symbolize manners and as a symbol of personality, honesty, and harmony.

Abstract

This research discusses the types of social interaction and behaviour of the main character in a novel entitled The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides which was published in 2019. This research used descriptive qualitative method and focuses on Sheickman's theory of social interaction: co-operation, accommodation, and assimilation and Skinner's theory of behaviour: neutral operant, reinforces and punishers. Furthermore, the data were analysed using a descriptive qualitative method. Writer use the novel as a valid data instrument. The result of this study in finding out that there are several types of social interaction resulting in the occurrence of both positive and negative interactions that occur in the novel, there are 15 data that divided into two parts namely social interaction and impact of responses and how social interaction can influence the formation or change of a behaviour, the result shows that the change of behaviour only appear in negative responses, and the punishers in the form of punishment for a person behaviour so that the behaviour or action does not happen again, this is how the behaviour can affect social interaction as depicted in the novel.
