Abstract

Head injury is a type of injury / shock that is often found in the emergency department. Pain in head injuries is the most common complaint in mild head injuries, which is about 82%. One of the non-pharmacological measures to reduce pain is slow deep breathing therapy. The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of slow deep breathing therapy on the intensity of headache in patients with mild head injuries in the ER of Bhayangkara Hospital Manado. The research was conducted using the Pre Experimental design method, with a One Group Pretest–Posttest research approach. Samples were taken as many as 15 respondents using the Accidental Sampling technique. Research data collection was done by giving the SOP and the NRS Pain Scale Observation Sheet (Numerical Rating Scale). Furthermore, the data obtained were processed by running the SPSS Computer program version 16.0 to be analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank statistical test with a significance level (α) = 0.05. The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test showed p = 0.000, which means Ha is accepted or there is an effect of slow deep breathing on the intensity of headache in patients with mild head injuries in the ER of the Bhayangkara Hospital Manado. The conclusion in this research is that there is an effect of slow deep breathing therapy on the intensity of headache in patients with mild head injuries in the ER of the Bhayangkara Hospital Manado. Of us suggested: Slow deep breathing therapy can be used as an independent nursing care intervention in patients with mild head injuries to reduce pain.
