Abstract

The enhancement of the income of the s is expected to have an impact on the welfare of cattle breeders in Karo Regency. The focus of this paper is to decide the factors that influence the respondents’ income to grow Cattle business better in Karo Regency. It also was conducted in Tigapanah District, Tigabinanga District and Dolat Rakyat District in Karo Regency with using 78 respondents. The results showed that the cattle breeds, the feed, the labor and the selling cost of livestock were factors that had a notable result on the respondents’ income in Karo Regency, while the cages cost and other costs did not have a notable effect on the respondents’ income in Karo Regency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempengetahui pengaruh pemberian jerami padi yang dikonsumsi denganEM-4 terhadap konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan dan konversi pakan pada ternak domba sungei putihjantan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Biologi Ternak, Fakultas Pertanian, Jln Prof. A Sofyan No 3,Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, dimulai Agustus 2011 sampai Januari 2012. Rancangan yang digunakandalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Bujur Sangkar Latin (RBSL) dengan 4 perlakuan dengan rataan bobot badanawal 12.79 kg ±0.20kg. Perlakuan terdiri atas P0 (konsentrat +jerami padi tanpa EM-4), P1 (konsentrat +jerami padi+2cc EM-4), P2 (konsentrat +jerami padi +4cc EM-4), P3 (konsentrat +jerami padi +6cc EM-4). Hasil penelitianmenunjukkan bahwa Pemanfaatan Jerami Padi (Oryza sativa) yang dikonsumsi dengan EM-4 terhadapPertumbuhan Domba Sungei Putih Jantan terhadap konsumsi pakan (g/ekor/hari) 643.11; 719.18; 696.57 dan671.89. Rataan pertambahan bobot badan (g/ekor/hari) 25,42; 40.48; 31.25 dan 30.42. Konversi pakan 25.94; 18.00;23.99 dan 22.97. Uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa pemberian jerami padi yang dikonsumsi dengan EM-4 tidakberbeda nyata (P>0.05) terhadap konsumsi pakan, pertambahan bobot badan dan konversi pakan domba sungeiputih jantan. Kesimpulan hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan jerami padi (Oryza sativa) denganberbagai level EM-4 tidak memberikan berpengaruh yang nyata terhadap pertumbuhan domba sungei putih jantan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji tingkat penggunaan subtitusi dedak padi oleh pod kakao yangdifermentasi dengan Aspergillus niger terhadap karkas dan organ dalam ayam brioler. Penelitian dilakukan diLaboratorium Biologi Ternak Program Studi Peternakan USU. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acaklengkap dengan 6 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Perlakuan yang digunakan adalah yaitu R0a (pakan komersil), R0b(100 : 0), R1 (75 : 25), R2 (50 : 50), R3 (25 : 75), R4 (0 : 100). Peubah yang diamati adalah bobot potong,karkas, persentase karkas, bobot relatif empedal, panjang duodenum, jejenum, illeum, caecum, rektum, bobotrelatif hati dan bobot relatif lemak abdominal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat subtitusi dedak padioleh pod kakao memberikan pengaruh yang berbeda sangat nyata (P<0,01) terhadap penurunan bobot potong,bobot karkas dan persentase karkas tetapi memberikan peningkatan terhadap panjang usus halus dan usus besar.Tingkat subtitusi dedak padi oleh pod kakao tidak menunjukkan pengaruh nyata terhadap (P>0,05) bobot relatifempedal, bobot relatif hati dan lemak abdominal. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pod kakao dapat digunakan untukmenggantikan dedak padi sebanyak 50% dari 12% proporsi dedak padi dalam ransum ayam broiler.

Abstract

Limbah sayur merupakan biomasa organik yang cukup berlimpah, mudah rusak dan menyebabkan pencemaran linkungan. Fermentasi limbah sayur dengan MOL (Mikroorganisme lokal) merupakan salah satu teknologi pengolahan limbah yang lebih aplikatif, mudah dibuat dan murah harganya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kandungan nutrisi limbah sayur fermentasi dengan MOL sebagai agen media tumbuh maggot BSF. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimen menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL), 4 perlakuan (fermentasi 2, 4, 6, 8 hari). Variabel yang diamati adalah kandungan nutrisi yaitu: bahan kering (BK), protein kasar (PK), serat kasar (SK), lemak kasar (LK), dan Abu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan fermentasi limbah sayur dengan MOL meningkatkan kandungan nutrisi limbah. Hasil fermentasi terbaik sebagai agen media tumbuh maggot adalah fermentasi 2 hari dengan kandungan PK sebesar 20,23% dan SK sebesar 14,80%.

Abstract

"Activist Farm" is a sheep and goat farm that was established aimed at increasing the income of farmers and has the concept of integrating livestock whose target is to meet the protein needs of the community and the fulfillment of livestock seeds as a center for goat and sheep production in North Sumatra province. The limited knowledge and skills in raising livestock such us to procurement of feed ingredients, ration formulation and maintenance management encouraged coaching team from University of sumatera utara to provide assistance / coaches. Several technologies from research results of the university can be applied, so that they can motivated farmers to increase their business, increase farmer income and in order to support protein resilience during a pandemic. As a solution in overcoming this problem, it is necessary to increase knowledge and skills in the cultivation of goats, the introduction of alternative sources of feed ingredients (feed ingredients based on agricultural by-products, plantations, food processing industries) and livestock waste processing to support the productivity of goats to reduce production costs, making complete silage feed, making probiotics and formulating goat and sheep rations. The specific target of this activity is that farmers are able to determine potential alternative feed to be given for goats, are able to make probiotics for fermentation, complete fermentation and formulate rations, understand good farm management and efforts to improve biosecurity in supporting livestock health and the environment. The service method is packaged in the form of lectures, discussions, demonstrations, training and pilot projects. Service activities are summarized in a guidebook in the form of a Goat and Sheep Maintenance Management Module. From this activity, it is targeted that there will be cost efficiency (savings in animal feed costs because it can utilize alternative sources of feed ingredients), formulating and making independent concentrate feed, savings in the cost of purchasing probiotics and organic fertilizer fermentation methods.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to establish the best proportion of salakleaf silage utilisation in complete feed based on dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH value, VFA generation, and NH3 concentration. The method used in this study was experimental with a 4 x 4 Randomized Block Design (RBD), using four distinct treatment ratios and 4 times rumen fluid collection as a repeat group. The percentage of salakleaf treatments in complete feed were: P0 (15% elephant grass in complete feed), P1 (15% salakleaf in complete feed), P2 (30% salakleaves in complete feed) and P3 (45% salak leaves in complete feed). The observed variables consisted of dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH value, VFA production, and NH3 concentration. The mathematical model used is an analysis of variance and if there are differences between treatments it is continued with the DMRT (Duncan's Multiple Range Test) test (Steel and Torrie, 1991). The results revealed that the treatment ration had no significant (P>0.05) influence on pH value and had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, VFA production, and NH3 concentration. This study concluded that using 30% silage of salakleaves in complete feed could maintain the pH value and increase the dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH value, VFA production, and NH3 concentration.
