Abstract

Quizizz is a free online-based formative assessment tool that allows the teacher to conduct both assessments in class or online teaching. This study used Quizizz as an assessment tool for the midterm exam of the first semester English department or EFL students in IAIN Parepare. The method used is technology-based applied research. The instrument used was a midterm exam for the English department students. The midterm exam consists of 15 questions with multiple choice question types. This exam was attended by 18 students. The questionnaire was made using a Mentimeter. The use of Quizizz has a good and positive impact and response. The level of accuracy of students' success in answering questions correctly in this class was 78%. The highest score is 100% and the lowest is 61%. Then 85% prefer Quizizz as an assessment tool compared to paper and google forms.

Abstract

The main objectives of this research are to find out the student’s needs in learning English as a general course and also the target language needs for materials and to design an appropriate syllabus on the basis of agricultural student’s needs especially in food crops and horticulture. In order to achieve these objectives, a need analysis of the students was carried out in advance. The research method employed descriptive research. The research was carried out by distributing questionnaires to collect the relevant data. The data collected were tabulated and analyzed using both descriptive and quantitatif methods. The population of this reserach was all the first grade of food crops and horticulture students consisted 25 students and one English Instructor and one Vocational Teacher. The result of the research indicated that learning needs questionnaires given on speaking and listening activities. Based on the questionnaires showed that learning needs of perceptions of sudents skills regarding the importance of item referring to speaking skill were 94,4% ,the subskills highest importance is listening 93,6%, and other were writing 92,8% and reading 90,4%. Target language needs as perception of students regarding the importance of students reffering to speaking skils were 95,2%, and listening as the next skill with 94,4%. Reading and writing skills have the same range of 93,6% according to perception of respodents. Based in this fact, a syllabus that meets the students expectation specially related to teaching material, teaching method and leraning strategies is to be designed that using in curriculum 2013.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the quality of the multiple-choice summative test items for senior high school EFL teachers in Parepare. The analysis consisted of validity, reliability, level of difficulty, and distractors. The type of research used in this research was quantitative descriptive. The subjects in this study were 33 students. The data in this study was collected using documentation techniques. Data analysis in the form of item analysis was carried out using the Biserial point correlation. The results of the study showed that the valid category was 80% and invalid are 20%. Included in the unreliable test with KR-20 < 0.70 or 0,6. The difficult category was 1 item, the moderate category was 8 items, and easy category was 1 item. Distractors function very good was 70%, good category was 20%, and the quite good category was 10%. It can be resumed that the final multiple-choice test made by EFL teacher has very good quality of item validity, unreliable test, good quality level of difficulty, and very good quality distractor. Based on the result analysis of test items, it can be concluded that several good test items can still be used for the future summative test, and several test items should be revised.
