Abstract

Quizizz is a free online-based formative assessment tool that allows the teacher to conduct both assessments in class or online teaching. This study used Quizizz as an assessment tool for the midterm exam of the first semester English department or EFL students in IAIN Parepare. The method used is technology-based applied research. The instrument used was a midterm exam for the English department students. The midterm exam consists of 15 questions with multiple choice question types. This exam was attended by 18 students. The questionnaire was made using a Mentimeter. The use of Quizizz has a good and positive impact and response. The level of accuracy of students' success in answering questions correctly in this class was 78%. The highest score is 100% and the lowest is 61%. Then 85% prefer Quizizz as an assessment tool compared to paper and google forms.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether or to find out: Whether or not the use of Student Teams-Achievement Division (STAD) can improve the vocabulary mastery of the students. Whether or not the students have positive attitudes toward cooperative learning type Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) in learning vocabulary. This research took place at Mts. DDI Enrekang. The kind of this research was Quasi-experimental which have two groups namely experimental and control group. Population of research was the seventh grade students of Mts. DDI Enrekang in academic year 2022/2023 which consisted one class. Sample of the research was 24 in experimental and 24 in control class. The researcher using vocabulary test as instrument of the research. The result showed that there is different result of students who given treatment by STAD and students who given usual technique in teaching vocabulary mastery. The mean score of post-tests for experimental group was higher than the control group (80.83 > 71.25). on the analysis of students’ attitude in following teaching learning process, it was found that the use of STAD influenced the students’ attitudes in learning vocabulary. STAD method helped students’ attitudes turn into positive to improve vocabulary mastery. Most of the students agreed to use of STAD because it could build students’ confidence and work together. Many students also agreed that the use of STAD was interested and active in teaching learning process.

Abstract

Recognizing the imperative of enhancing students' comprehension in reading, especially within the context of vocational schools, the need for innovative learning approaches becomes crucial. This research aimed to assess the effectiveness of employing folktales to enhance the reading abilities of eleventh-grade students at SMK Tiwikrama Mamuju. Conducted through a pre-experimental design, the study incorporated both pretest and posttest assessments with an intervention in between. The research was conducted during the academic year 2022/2023, involving three classes comprising a total of 105 students. Utilizing purposive sampling, a sample size of 23 students was selected for the study, with the reading test serving as the primary research instrument. The data analysis unveiled a noteworthy improvement in students' mean scores, escalating from a pre-test score of 48 (categorized as very poor) to a post-test score of 75 (categorized as good). The calculated t-test value of 21.09 exceeded the critical t-table value of 2.074 at a significance level of α=0.05. This higher t-test value led to the rejection of the null hypothesis and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis. Consequently, the utilization of folktales demonstrated a significant enhancement in the reading abilities of eleventh-grade students at SMK Tiwikrama Mamuju.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian Masyarakat dengan tema "English is Easy at SDN 45 Parepare" merupakan inisiatif yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan bahasa Inggris pada siswa Sekolah Dasar Negeri 45 Parepare selama periode enam bulan. Metode pengajaran yang beragam dan interaktif digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan ini, termasuk pembelajaran berbasis permainan edukatif, penggunaan cerita dan dongeng, tugas proyek, kolaborasi kelompok, serta pemanfaatan media dan teknologi. Program ini juga menerapkan pendekatan diferensiasi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan individu peserta. Hasil dari kegiatan ini mencakup peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara, mendengar, membaca, dan menulis bahasa Inggris. Selain itu, peserta juga mengalami peningkatan rasa percaya diri dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris dan aktif berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan kelas. Program ini memberikan fondasi yang kuat bagi pengembangan kemampuan bahasa Inggris di masa depan dan mendorong semangat belajar siswa.

Abstract

Kemampuan mendengarkan (listening skill) merupakan aspek yang sangat penting dalam persiapan tes TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) yang mencakup pemahaman mendalam terhadap berbagai variasi aksen dan situasi percakapan dalam bahasa Inggris. Program pelatihan daring sepuluh pertemuan ini dirancang untuk meningkatkan "listening skill" peserta dalam persiapan TOEFL, yang melibatkan siswa, mahasiswa, alumni, dan masyarakat umum. Program ini bertujuan untuk memberikan dasar yang kuat bagi peserta dalam meraih kesuksesan dalam tes TOEFL dan mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang berguna dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan. Melalui program ini, peserta mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan mendengarkan, terutama dalam pemahaman variasi aksen dalam bahasa Inggris. Mereka juga merasa lebih siap dalam menghadapi situasi percakapan dalam konteks akademik. Peningkatan skor TOEFL peserta, rasa percaya diri yang ditingkatkan dalam berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris, dan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang bahasa Inggris adalah hasil yang dicapai dalam program ini. Kesuksesan program pelatihan "listening skill" ini menyoroti pentingnya mempersiapkan peserta untuk menghadapi tes TOEFL dan mengembangkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris yang kuat di dunia yang semakin terhubung secara global.

Abstract

English reading comprehension is an important skill needed in various areas of life. However, many students have difficulty understanding English reading. This article is the output of community service activities which aims to discusses several practical strategies that can help improve English reading comprehension. The strategies comprise skimming, scanning, word-attack skills, vocabulary building, interpreting reference, recognizing text-organization and inferencing. The methods used are lecture, discussion, and direct practice. The participants are 30 students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 2 Parepare who are members of the School English Meeting Club. The results of this community service are (1) increasing students' reading comprehension text skills, (2) increasing participants' awareness of the importance of reading skills, (3) students who are competent in understanding reading comprehension texts.
