Abstract

On the basis of comparison with other characters of two subgenera of the genus Impatiens, Semeiocardium Zoll. is proposed to be best treated as a subgenus of Impatiens (Balsaminaceae). Subgenus Semeiocardium (Zoll.) N. Utami is distinguished from the other two subgenera in the number of locular ovary and its connate wing petals. Subgenus Semeiocardium has 20 species in four sections of Impatiens in the sense of Warburg & Reiche (1896). There are 14 species of Impatiens in section Microcentron Warb., 3 species of section Macrocentron Warb, 2 species of section Brachycentron Warb., and 1 species of section Brevicalcaratae Warb.

Abstract

"Mundu" is common name for one of the member of Clusiaceae family (manggis-manggisan).In scientific writing it is sometimes called Garcinia xanthochymus Hook.f. or G. dulcis (Roxb.)Kurz. To determine the correct name for these two kinds of plant a study was conducted to review its taxonomic status. Based on morphological data, anatomical and phylogenetic analysis it is showed that the two species is separated but there are closely related, and in according to International Code of Botanical Nomenclature Garcinia xanthochymus Hook.f is the correct name for "MUNDU"

Abstract

Impatiens arriensii (Zoll.) T.Shimizu is endemic to Madura island. This species is confined only to certain locations on this island. It is remarkable in having four locular ovary with the fusing together of all four lateral petals. The populations of I.arriensii in Madura island was found to be extinct in 1999, (presumably) due to the habitat disturbance.Detailed description and illustration are provided.

Abstract

NANDA UTAMI. 1986.Pollination in Metroxylon sagu. Berita biologi 3(5): 229 - 231. Inflorescence morphology, flowering biology and insect visitors of sago palm (Metroxylon sagu Rottb.) were observed in Pandeglang, West Java.Sago palm is monoceous plant and self pollinated. However, insect visitors appear to play an important role for fruit setting. It was showed that the number of fruits setting in isolated inflorescence was smaller than in unisolated inflorescence. Some insect visitors recorded were Apis indica, Trigona iridipennis Ryghium haemorrhoidale.and Drosophylla melanogaster

Abstract

Study on the taxonomy and conservation status of Balsaminaceaein Java has been carried out. Based on the literature study, herbarium specimen deposited at Herbarium Bogoriense-LIPI (BO) and several field works in Java, there were two genera of Balsaminaceae found in Java namely, the monotypic Hydrocera triflora and the prolific Impatiens. The Impatiens consisted of seven species, i.e. Impatiens arriensii, I. chonoceras, I. radicans, I. javensis, I. wallerana, I. Platypetala and I. balsamina. Three species among them, Impatiens arriensii, I. radicans and I. Chonoceras were endemic and threatened in their habitat, while I. microceras has been extinct in the wild. The species Impatiens arriensiiwas transferred from the genus Semeiocardium.

Abstract

NANDA UTAMI. 1986, Natural hybrid between A. pinnata and A. Obtusifolia in Bogor Botanical Garden.Berita Biologi 3(6): 297 - 300.The morphology and leaf anatomy of three collections of Arenga of incertain identity and grown in Bogor Botanical Garden are investigated and i compared with other species. The investigation showed that the characters of these collections oscillate between A pinnata and A. obtusifolia. Consequen tly it is suggested that the plants probably represent a natural hybrid of these two species.
