Abstract

Background: Rehabilitation services for stroke patients decreased during the Covid-19 pandemic, and patients mainly stayed home without rehabilitation. As a result, the patient experiences recurrent strokes, contractures, malnutrition, decubitus, and reduced cognitive function. Therefore, the repair is crucial to achieving maximum recovery and improving one's physical, mental, social, and speech abilities. Purpose: To find out the rehabilitation for stroke patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. Method: This review used a modified version of the integrative review research methodology developed by Whittemore and Knafl (2005). The literature search was conducted on five databases, namely PubMed, Science Direct, ProQuest, Cochrane Library, and DOAJ, with inclusion criteria in English, focusing on the rehabilitation of stroke patients, the Covid-19 pandemic, and original research published between 2020 and 2022. Evaluation of publications used Bowling's critical assessment model (2001). Results: Ten articles were included in the analysis. As a result, an overview of the rehabilitation of stroke patients during the Covid-19 pandemic was obtained, which included, first: Changes in the rehabilitation service system. Second: the obstacles to the rehabilitation of stroke patients during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as increasing family workload, lack of social support, and economic factors/financial constraints. Third: Changes in the functional status of stroke patients. Conclusion: The overview of the rehabilitation of stroke patients during the Covid-19 pandemic includes changes in the rehabilitation service system, obstacles to the restoration of stroke patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, and changes in the functional status of stroke patients.

Abstract

Introduction: The number of children confirmed with COVID-19 in Indonesia remains high compared to other countries (12.2%). 13.6% of all cases are hospitalized in quarantine rooms. This study aims to describe children with confirmed COVID-19 who have been hospitalized in Makassar, Indonesia. Methods: This pilot study was conducted in Makassar City, one of the cities in Indonesia with a high number of COVID-19 cases, in October 2021. A total of 25 children participated through consecutive sampling. This study consisted of children hospitalized in January-August 2021 who had confirmed COVID-19 and were admitted to quarantine or non-quarantine rooms. Inclusion criteria were children under 18 years old and parents who volunteered to complete the questionnaire based on COVID-19 prevention and control guidelines. The questionnaire focused on child and parent characteristics, COVID-19 symptoms, and the number of confirmed cases. Results: Of the 25 children hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19, 76% were hospitalized in quarantine rooms, 72% were boys, and their ages ranged from 0 to 13 years. The average number of siblings was 2.64±1.63, and the average length of hospital stay was 7.88±3.03 days. The most common symptoms were fever (68%), cough (44%), and diarrhea (28%). The majority of children had two symptoms (40%), were confirmed with COVID-19 once (84%), and were hospitalized one time (95%).Conclusions: The main characteristics of hospitalized children with confirmed COVID-19 are non-school age and boys. They have multiple symptoms, and fever is the most common. A holistic approach to treating all children hospitalized with COVID-19 should be taken. This study can be used as a baseline for formulating strategies and guidelines for preventing prolonged effects and treating hospitalized children with COVID-19.Keywords: COVID-19 in children; confirmed children; COVID-19 symptom; hospitalized children

Abstract

Raising awareness about disease prevention behavior in adolescents is an effective measure for reducing the transmission of COVID-19. This study aimed to examine adolescent disease-prevention behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia and identify its associations with gender, region, and background-related factors. This was a cross-sectional study that involved 492 respondents between the ages of 12 to 18 years and currently attending junior high school or senior high school. The Mann–Whitney U test and Kruskal–Wallis H test was used. The findings indicated that the mean age of the respondents was 15.77 (SD = 1.42), the majority of the respondents were girls (76.4%), and most were living in Eastern Indonesia (81.5%). Girls placed a significantly higher effort for prevention than boys for self-precaution, social distancing, and following coughing and sneezing etiquette, with mean (SD) values of 21.48 (SD = 2.79), 20.40 (SD = 2.89), and 17.73 (SD = 2.44), respectively. Gender and region also had significant correlations with reported self-protection, social distancing, and self-immunity enhancement behavior (p< 0.05). It can be concluded that COVID-19-prevention measures practiced by adolescents differ according to gender, region, education level, both parents’ education level, and the father’s occupation.

Abstract

Reopening schools during the COVID-19 pandemic requires the full consideration of parents’ decisions due to the worry of exposure for their children. This study evaluated parents’ preparedness for offline learning decisions among elementary school children during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a cross-sectional study with 134 parents as respondents. The consecutive sampling technique was used. The online questionnaire was distributed on social media to collect data from various regions in Indonesia. The finding indicated that 99 (73%) parents sent their children for offline learning from July to November 2021 for one to three times a week (44.8%) and one to three hours a day (46.8%). The significant factor for parents’ decisions was school preparedness for COVID-19 prevention (p < 0.05). However, parents' preparedness for self-protection and the child's mental condition had no significant relationship because almost all parents were already prepared for these factors (> 95%). Therefore, the government and primary health care have a vital role in supervising and providing a safe environment for children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
