Abstract

Introduction: Chronic pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience with actual or potential tissue damage, or is described as a damage lasting more than 3 months with heavy or moderate intensity. The patient's response to the pain he experienced was done in different ways such as shouting, grimacing, crying, etc. Repair of pain is likely to occur more quickly when psychological intervention is included in medical care because it requires alternative and complementary treatment to overcome the pain including prayer , humor, hypnosis, and group support. Growing evidence-based nursing practice shows progress in helping patients deal with the pain. One of the evidence-based nursing practices is humor therapy. Method: The literature search was done through searching the results of scientific publications 2010-2018 using several databases, such as Such as Google scholar, PubMed, DOAJ, and Cochran, with keyword "Humor Therapy and Chronic Pain. Result: Obtained 6 fulltext articles, were obtained with various methods used, such as quasi-experimental pre- and posttest control group design, randomized two-group review literature, concluded that humor therapy proved effective in reducing chronic pain in all ages. Conclusion: The humor therapy is effective in reducing chronic pain in patients of all ages, both children, adults and the elderly, besides humor therapy can also be used to increase endurance and quality of life in elderly who are cared for in nursing homes

Abstract

Background :  Workplace violence in health sector has turned an alarming concern worlwide in this era. Nowadays, working violence toward health service personnels, particularly the nurses becomes a significant issue in all of health care centres in the world. The International Labor Organization (ILO)  reported that nurses are facing more various kinds of working violences than other health sector personnels. On average, the nurses’ position is three times more risky than the other job positions to experience working violence. The prevalence of  violence varies according to its countries and labour regulations.Purpose: The purpose of this literature review was  to know the prevalence rate of working violence occuring in medical centres or hospitals according to various different countries’ perspectives.Method: The data  bases  which were used to collect information and write up the literature review were  Pubmed, Proquest, and Google Scholar, Science Direct.   Result: There were 40 relevant articles identified and issued from 2013 to 2018, in which 30 of those articles meet the inclusive criteria. The result of the study shows that  there are 4 kinds of working violence which have occured, including physical iolence with 7.5% (in Kongo) - 81.9% (in China), psychological violence with 6.5% (in Slovenia) - 89.58% (in South Euthopia),  sexual harrasment with rate of 1.1% (in Hongkong)  - 17,9% (in Slovenia)  and racial harrasment with percentage of 2.6% (in Hongkong) and 3% (in Malawi). Conclusion: The prevalence of working violence in hospitals is categorized into physical violence, psychological  violence, sexual and racial harrasment which predominantly take place  in all of the hospital room sectors, starting from the outpatient care rooms to the emergency rooms. It is important that policies be issued to overcome the problem and to help nurses who experienced working violence in hospitals so  as not to intrude on their work performance and services to patients.

Abstract

Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) is defined as an early phase of Diabetic Type-2 process. IGT shows an occurance of early phase of Diabetic and asymptomatic. The prevalence is increased in accordance to poor or unhealthy lifestyle such as over consuming of carbohydrate and lack of physical excercises. The aim of the study was to analyze the correlation between lifestyle and individual with obesity, obesity and pre-diabetic, and lifestyle with pre-diabetic.The study was conducted at the Kassi-Kassi Public Health Center in Makassar from May to July 2009. The study was a case control study. The number of samples was 54 people selected by purposive sampling. The sampling were divided into 27 pre-diabetic individuals and 27 individuals with normal blood glucose. The data were collected through structured interview and questionnaire. The measurement of height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and blood samples was done twice after fasting 12 hours for fasting blood glucose and oral glucose tolerance test. The data were analyzed by using univariate, bivariate with chi square, and independet t-tes and Mann-Whitney test. The result of the study indicate that lifestyle has a role in the incident of pre-diabetic in which p = 0,021.Lifestyle has been proved affecting pre-diabetic event trought obesity. This research shows a correlation between lifestyle and obesity, and also connection between obesity and pre-diabetic incident.

Abstract

Objective: Moral distress is a problem that is often overlooked in the nursing profession which is a painful psychological imbalance that results from knowing ethically appropriate actions, but cannot do it. The purpose of this systematic review is to thoroughly investigate the experience of nurses' moral distress and the range of impacts that they cause and the strategies for overcoming moral distress to nurses.Method: Literature search on electronic databases from journals that have been published through ProQuest, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar from January 1, 2010, to September 1, 2019.Results: The intensity and frequency of moral distress experienced by nurses tend to vary. This result is due to differences in individual characteristics as well as workplace characteristics, duties, and responsibilities. The impact caused by moral distress very much includes the deterioration of the physical and mental health of nurses, provision of care, job satisfaction, and unsustainable care, poor communication, limited patient advocacy, lack of care, decreased job satisfaction, burnout and increased nursing turnover. Strategies that can be done to overcome the problem of moral distress are the application of adaptation models and individual approaches and collaborative approaches by providing ethical education to nurses and professionals in hospitals.Conclusion: Moral distress has many negative effects on both the nurse, patient and the quality of nursing care. Various strategies can be applied to overcome the problems of moral distress experienced by nurses, namely the adoption of adaptation models and individual approaches and collaborative approaches by providing ethical education to nurses and professionals in hospitals.Keywords: Moral distress, moral conflict, moral problems, nurses.

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of heart failure patients is increasing along with the increase in the global population. Poor quality of life is one of the characteristics of heart failure patients. Complementary therapy might be an alternative to overcome them.. Methods:  The design of this study is a systematic review using the Preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta analysis (PRISMA) method to compile this paper. The article were collected from online database included PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar and publish in 2010 to 2020. Determined articles about intervention articles that discuss the effectiveness of complementary therapies to improve quality of life in heart failure patients.Results:  Six articles were identified and determined to conduct this systematic review. All studies were conducted using intervention trials of complementary therapy to increase quality of life. Those therapy included Music therapy, a walking exercise program with regulates breathing patterns, benson relaxation, yoga practice, tai chi. These therapy provided by trained nurse. The duration of administration is from 15 minutes to 60 minutes for 3 days to 14 weeks. MLHFQ is the most widely used assessment instrument, the rest are EuroQol, KCCQ and WHOQOL. All studies revealed the significance improvement of quality of life.Conclusion:  It is conclude that complementary therapy showed strong evidence to improve the quality of life in heart failure patients. in practice, official standard procedures are needed.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the actions of health workers in preventing the effects of N95 masks. In preparing this review, the study design used was a literature review. Article searches were conducted through electronic databases and websites, namely Pubmed, Proquest, ScienceDirect and Wiley. The results of the analysis of 9 research articles showed that, there were articles that reported the use of dressings was effective to prevent injury and provide a sense of comfort, also there were no injuries but caused discomfort, and there were those who reported more pressure injuries with the use of prophylactic dressings than those that did not use. In conclusion, preventive measures with prophylactic dressing on the use of N95 masks still require further research.

Abstract

The use of old modern dressings cost a lot, so wound practitioners use alternative dressings (sanitary napkins). Identify the use of alternative dressings for chlorine residues and the process of healing diabetic foot injury (LKD). Quasi experimental research design with one group pre and post approach, 10 samples were intervened with alternative pads in the form of sanitary napkins used after wound care. Sanitary pads are used on one wound for a type of dressing based on the area of ​​the wound. Intervention for 12 days with dressing changes per 2 days. Examination of residual chlorine (Spectrophotometry UV-Vis) based on the wound with swab techniques on days 1, 6 and 12, while the healing process with a standard instrument that is Diabetis Foot Ulcer Assessment Scale (DFUAS). Chlorine residues of days 1, 6 and 12 were 0.6837, 2.4477 and 2.7927 ppm with p = 0.001. The average DFUAS scores of days 1, 6 and 12 are 29.6, 27.7 and 24.6 with p = 0.005. Thus a significant increase in residual chlorine at the wound bed but DFUAS scores continued to decline. An increase in chlorine residue on days 6 and 12 of treatment using alternative dressings of sanitary napkins and DFUAS scores decreased. It is recommended for wound practitioners to evaluate Diabetic Foot Injuries when using alternative dressings (sanitary napkins).

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kejadian pra diabetes dikalangan remaja meningkat signifikan dalam beberapa tahun terakhir. Selain genetik, faktor gaya hidup merupakan yang paling dominan berkontribusi terhadap risiko pra diabetes pada remaja. Jika tidak ditangani, maka akan berkembang menjadi diabetes. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas diet dan aktivitas fisik terhadap pencegahan diabetes pada remaja pra diabetes. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif analitis desain literature review. Data diperoleh melalui hasil pencarian pada database elektronik Pubmed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Wiley, dan CochraneLibrary. Enam studi teridentifikasi dengan total sampel 490 responden memenuhi kriteria untuk untuk disertakan (1) remaja pra diabetes usia 10-19 tahun, (2) intervensi diet dan aktivitas fisik, (3) artikel tahun 2011-2021, (4) berbahasa Inggris dan Indonesia, dan (5) memiliki full text. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis tematik mengacu pada kesamaan intervensi serta durasi yang diberikan. Hasil: Program diet dan aktivitas fisik mencegah perkembangan diabetes pada remaja pra diabetes. Hanya satu studi yang melaporkan insiden diabetes pada 1 peserta dari 83 yang mengikuti program diet dan aktivitas fisik. Semua studi melaporkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kontrol glikemik, lima studi melaporkan peningkatan sensitivitas insulin dan perubahan BMI, empat studi melaporkan penurunan berat badan. Kesimpulan: Tinjauan ini menunjukkan keefektifan program diet dan peningkatan aktivitas fisik terhadap pencegahan diabetes pada remaja pra diabetes, diikuti dengan peningkatan kontrol glikemik dan sensitivitas insulin, perubahan BMI dan penurunan berat badan. Oleh karena itu, program diet dan aktivitas fisik dapat menjadi pilihan terapi non-farmakologis untuk mencegah atau menunda perkembangan diabetes pada remaja pra diabetes.

Abstract

Cancer has many side effects on patient’s physic and mostly on mental which may affect on their quality of life. Physically most patients feel fatigue, insomnia, anorexia, nausea, and vomit while mentally they feel emotional disturbances such as anxiety, stress, or depression. One of the methods to that appropriate to overcome both of the conditions is spiritual care. Many research found that because spiritual care associated with better wellbeing, less emotional disturbance, less substance abuse, greater social support, better health behaviours, so it has impact to longer survival periods. This research aimed to investigate nurse’s spiritual care competencies to patients with end stage cancer. This was descriptive study design employed Spiritual Care Competencies Scale (SCCS) instrument. A total sampling of 24 nurses working in Oncology department in Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital were recruited. This research found that there are 12 nurses (50 %) that work in oncology department have low competencies of spiritual care. Involving spiritual care is associated with better wellbeing and longer survival periods. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the competence of nurses on spiritual care in meeting the spiritual needs of patients with end stage breast cancer. A training of spiritual care can be an alternative for nurses to improve spiritual care in hospitals.
