Abstract

Diverse fishermen have a risk of health problems and even threats of disability and death. Problems that are common in diving fishermen are decompression sickness and barotrauma, both of which can cause fatal health problems, so research related to efforts to prevent decompression and barotrauma is important to do. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the fishing community in the Fishermen's Village of Untia Makassar City regarding efforts to prevent decompression and barotrauma. The study was conducted using the cross-sectional study method. The population and sample are fishing communities in Untia Makassar City's Fishermen Village. The findings of a study on the prevention of decompression and barotrauma in the Untia Makassar City Fishermen's Village revealed that fishermen with good knowledge (86%), good attitudes (98%), and good practice (58%), had low rates of decompression and barotrauma. Then, in the attitude variable, we discovered a P-value of 0.003 and 0.040 for the influence of knowledge and practice with the use of breathing aids as an effort to prevent decompression and barotrauma in fishermen in Untia Makassar City's Fishermen Village. This is allegedly true, but there are numerous other factors that can influence fishermen's attitudes, including personal, emotional, and even cultural factors.

Abstract

Nursing services are a crucial part of health services in order to achieve optimal health status in every individual, family and community. Lack of nurse competence in mental health services will have an impact on the quality of mental health services. This study aims to determine the relationship between the characteristics and competence of nurses in serving patients with mental health disorders at Primary Health Care. The research design used was a cross-sectional study. The subject of this study was the nurse in charge of the mental health program at each Primary Health Care in Makassar City which was carried out from May to October 2022. A total of 24 Primary Health Care in the Makassar City area so that by applying total sampling, the number of participants or research subjects was 24 people. The results showed that 58.3% of them were competent nurses (novice-expert range), and all variables or subject characteristics showed no relationship with the level of competence of nurses in charge of mental health programs at Primary Health Care. Subjects who fall into the category of competent nurses have attended mental health training, seminars, and have more than 5 years of work experience. To increase the validity of the research data, the number of subjects must be increased, including further research on the influence of other characteristic variables on nurse competence, some of which can be cultural background, institution, or even clustering of the area where nurses work.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the elderly with chronic illnesses have a relatively high percentage. According to the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) results in 2018, data indicates an increase in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and stroke among the elderly. The aging process in the elderly leads to a decline in physiological body functions, resulting in the emergence of non-communicable diseases in old age. The purpose of this community service activity is to enhance the knowledge of the elderly about chronic diseases (hypertension and type II diabetes) through a psycho-educational approach. The educational methods employed include lectures, counseling, and discussions. This activity took place on Friday, September 8, 2023, and was attended by 32 elderly individuals at the Tamalanrea Community Health Center who participated voluntarily. Based on observations, the majority of the elderly demonstrated good knowledge about chronic diseases after the question-and-answer sessions and discussions between the speakers and participants. It is hoped that through this activity, the community, especially the elderly, will gain a better understanding of chronic diseases (hypertension and type II diabetes), leading to behavioral changes and improved capabilities in identifying and preventing chronic illnesses in the future.
