Abstract

Wood furniture products were one of the commodities that have a dominant contribution compared to other furniture materials to the Indonesian economy. In furniture products, the connection system was a weak point in the construction, so a detailed analysis was needed regarding the factors that affect the strength of the construction and the effectiveness of the wood connection system. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of the wood used as outdoor chair material by carrying out several tests to obtain wood density, moisture content, MOR and MOE values and then carrying out impact tests on actual outdoor chair products. The results showed that the teak wood used in the raw material for making the product had a moisture content of 12% with an average density of 0.68 g/cm3. The results of the static flexural strength test showed that the MOE of the tested teak was 107,108 kg/cm2 and the MOR value was 1,018 kg/cm2. The compressive strength value parallel to the fiber is 536 kg/cm2. The teak sample tested was included in strong class II which is quite strong as a raw material for furniture such as outdoor chairs. Analysis of the results of the construction design found that the type of construction used was tenon mortise, cracks at the joints occurred because the tenon was too close to the head of the wood. Based on the product test results, after the product with a new construction design was made, by lowering the tenon mortise position 3 mm from the initial position. The crack that occurs in the product is caused by an error in product construction design and not from the quality of the product raw materials used.

Abstract

Performa dari sebuah mesin pembakaran dalam sangat dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, diantaranya kualitas bahan bakar serta tekanan kompresi dari mesin. Tekanan kompresi yang tinggi dan diikuti pemilihan angka oktan bahan bakar yang sesuai, akan menghasilkan performa yang optimal. Sayangnya, hanya sedikit pengguna yang mengetahui bahwa mesin kompresi tinggi membutuhkan bahan bakar dengan angka oktan tinggi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan keluaran daya torsi mesin pembakaran dalam satu silinder yang diberikan variasi tekanan kompresi menggunakan bahan bakar Pertamax Pertamax Plus. Uji dynamometer dilakukan untuk mengetahui perbedaan performa mesin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mesin dengan tekanan kompresi (11,8 Kg/cm2) dengan bahan bakar Pertamax Plus menghasilkan keluaran daya tertinggi sebesar 7,5 KW dengan keluaran torsi tertinggi sebesar 9,6 Nm. Sedangkan mesin dengan tekanan kompresi (10 Kg/cm2) mengunakan bahan bakar Pertamax menghasilkan keluaran tenaga terendah sebesar 4,2 KW dengan keluaran torsi terendah sebesar 3,8 Nm.

Abstract

Nowadays, automobiles and motorcycles manufacturer produced more powerful and efficient engines. This engine usually has high compression pressure to achieve high performance and economic gasoline consumption. Unfortunately, only few people known that high compression engine requires high octane number gasoline. The aim of this research were to find out the differences of power & torsion output of one cylinder combustion engine which given several compression pressure variances using Pertamax & Pertamax racing gasoline. Dynamometer test has been carried out to find the performance difference of one cylinder combustion engine. The results shown that the highest compression pressure engine (11,8 Kg/cm2) using Pertamax racing gasoline (RON 100) produced highest power output at 7,8 KW with torsion output at 10 Nm. Meanwhile, the lowest compression pressure engine (10 Kg/cm2) using Pertamax gasoline (RON 92) produced lowest power output at 4,2 KW with torsion output at 3,8 Nm.

Abstract

Mesin yang diproduksi ini biasanya memiliki tekanan kompresi yang tinggi untuk mencapai performa yang tinggi dan konsumsi bahan bakar yang ekonomis. Sayangnya, hanya sedikit pengguna yang mengetahui bahwa mesin kompresi tinggi membutuhkan bahan bakar dengan angka oktan tinggi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan keluaran daya & torsi mesin pembakaran dalam satu silinder yang diberikan beberapa variasi tekanan kompresi dengan menggunakan bahan bakar Pertamax Plus & Pertamax Racing. Uji dynamometer telah dilakukan untuk mengetahui perbedaan unjuk kerja mesin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mesin dengan tekanan kompresi tertinggi (11,8 Kg/cm2) dengan bahan bakar Pertamax Racing (RON 100) menghasilkan keluaran daya tertinggi sebesar 7,8 KW dengan keluaran torsi tertinggi sebesar 10 Nm. Sedangkan mesin dengan tekanan kompresi terendah (10 Kg/cm2) mengunakan bahan bakar Pertamax Plus (RON 95) menghasilkan keluaran tenaga terendah sebesar 4,6 KW dengan keluaran torsi terendah sebesar 4,1 Nm.

Abstract

The performance of an internal combustion engine was greatly influenced by several factors, including the quality of the fuel and the compression pressure of the engine. High compression pressure, followed by the selection of the appropriate fuel octane number, would result in optimal performance. Conversely, an engine with a high compression pressure given fuel with a low octane number would produce poor performance. Unfortunately, only few users know that high compression engines require fuel with high octane numbers. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the power & torque output of single-cylinder combustion engine given variations in compression pressure using pertamax (RON 92) & pertamax plus (RON 95) fuel. A dynamometer test has performed to determine the difference in engine performance. The results showed that the engine with high compression pressure (11.8 kg/cm2) with RON 95 fuel produced the highest power output of 7.5 kW with the highest torque output of 9.6 Nm. While the engine with low compression pressure (10 kg/cm2) using RON 92 fuel produced the lowest power output of 4.2 kW with the lowest torque output of 3.8 Nm.

Abstract

In furniture products, joints represented susceptible areas where damage or structural issues might arise. Consequently, selecting the appropriate joint technique was crucial to reduce the likelihood of failures in furniture joint connections. The objective of this study was to furnish insights into the failure patterns under diagonal compression loads for various wood joints (both traditional and contemporary) constructed with a Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF). The chosen joint techniques included Dowel (D), tongue and groove (T), Minifix (M), and Insert nut (N). Two compression test scenarios were implemented to evaluate the performance of each joint under external loads. The findings revealed that the Insert nut (N) joint emerged as the most preferable method, demonstrating resilience against the highest external loads and ease of installation, particularly suitable for knock-down furniture items. Conversely, the minifix joint (M) is not recommended due to its intricate construction process, and the compression test results indicated that it exhibited the lowest resistance to external loads.Keywords: Furniture, knock-down, properties, compression test.AbstrakDalam produk furnitur, sambungan merupakan area yang rentan terhadap kerusakan atau masalah struktural yang mungkin timbul. Oleh karena itu, pemilihan teknik sambungan yang tepat sangat penting untuk mengurangi kemungkinan kegagalan dalam sambungan furnitur. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memberikan wawasan tentang pola kegagalan di bawah beban kompresi diagonal untuk berbagai jenis sambungan kayu (baik yang tradisional maupun kontemporer) yang dibuat dengan Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF). Teknik sambungan yang dipilih meliputi Dowel (D), tongue and groove (T), Minifix (M), dan Insert nut (N). Dua skenario uji kompresi diterapkan untuk mengevaluasi kinerja setiap sambungan di bawah beban eksternal. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa sambungan Insert nut (N) muncul sebagai metode yang paling disukai, menunjukkan ketahanan terhadap beban eksternal tertinggi dan kemudahan pemasangan, khususnya cocok untuk furnitur yang dapat dirakit. Sebaliknya, sambungan minifix (M) tidak disarankan karena proses konstruksi yang rumit, dan hasil uji kompresi menunjukkan bahwa sambungan ini menunjukkan resistensi terendah terhadap beban eksternal.Kata kunci: Furnitur, knock-down, properti, uji tekan.
