Abstract

   The objectives of the study are to investigate whether the students’ personality learning styles affect the students’ vocabulary achievement, to find out whether word walls significantly affects the students’  vocabulary achievement and to find out whether there is any significant interaction between students’ personality learning style and word walls on students’ vocabulary achievement. An experimental research with factorial design 2x2 was used in this research. There were 120 students from the fifth and sixth grade students of SDIT Bunayya Padangsidimpuan taken as sample of this research. Students’ vocabulary achievement was measured by using test of multiple choice. The data were analyzed by applying Two-way Anova. The result of testing of the first hypothesis shows that students’ vocabulary achievement that was taught by word walls is significantly higher than that was taught without word walls. The second hypothesis testing shows that students’ vocabulary achievement with extrovert personality learning style higher than that have introvert personality learning style. The third hypothesis testing shows that there is an interaction between word walls and personality learning style. Students’ vocabulary achievement is influenced by teaching method of word walls and personality learning style.

Abstract

Hate speech is defined as speech that involves hate and is meant to have specific consequences, either directly or indirectly. Hate speech is becoming more common as the internet era progresses. Hate speech can be delivered individually or in groups, resulting in heated debates and difficulties in the community. This study aims to explain the types of hate speech on Tiara marlen on social media. The method use in this research is descriptive qualitative method, data collection techniques in the form of viewing and documentation. The method used in supporting this research is utterances, to determine whether the comments are included in to positive or negative categories.In this study used were 15 coments as research object.

Abstract

Most students of SMA Negeri 2 Perbaungan face many difficulties to communicate in English. Their lack of vocabulary, lack of grammar and fear of making mistakes and this affect speaking performance of students. The objective of this research was to investigate the students’ speaking ability to describe new vocabulary with difference social media exposure. This observation was taken two days which started from Thursday, 12th May and 19 May 2022. The qualitative research method was used in this research. The subjects of this research chosen based on the result of observation sheet and interviewed eight student as the representative of students in the first grade of SMA Negeri 2 Perbaungan, academic year 2021-2022. The population from this research were the whole students in the 1st grade SMA Negeri 2 Perbaungan. The data collection technique used was observation and test using observation sheets designed with Madsen's theory (1983) to determine the abilities achieved by students, from all research data found 8 research subjects with 4 indicators/elements namely pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency and grammar. After doing the research, it was found that there were 4 students who were active on social media, they had about 8-10 hours per day to use social media. They have 3 levels of speaking ability, namely high, medium and less, 2 students who have a high level of ability are not perfect in describing new vocabulary, 1 student who is moderate still not precise in pronouncing the sentence to be spoken. And 1 student who has a poor level has difficulty in describing new vocabulary. On the other hand, the researcher also found 4 students who were not active on social media, they only used social media 5 hours per day. They have 3 levels of speaking ability, 1 student with a high level cannot describe well, 1 student with a moderate level also has a deficiency in describing vocabulary and 2 students with a bad level are very difficult to describe new vocabulary. In addition, the researcher also found 3 levels of student motivation with different social media exposure, high student motivation there is no parental control over the use of social media as well as moderate student motivation. And students who have low motivation because of parental control over the use of social media. The results of this research, students' speaking ability is not significant to social media and parental control is needed in the use of social media.

Abstract

This research aims to implement and evaluate design concepts and develop a PjBL-based students worksheet adapted to teaching materials to improve the 4C’s skill of Senior High School students in English subjects. Development research was used in this research. The PjBL-based students' worksheet was developed by matching the criteria for the components of the students' worksheet model: model syntax, social systems, management reaction principles, support systems, instructional impacts, and accompaniments, as well as other necessary instruments. The instruments developed were students' worksheet model validation sheets and learning tools validated by experts and practitioners. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistical analysis. The results of this research indicated that the Project-based Learning (PjBL)-based students' worksheet model met the level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness to improve the 4C's skills of Senior High School students which contained: (a) syntax, (b) social system built on the principle of collaboration, (c) the principle of management reaction in which teachers act as facilitators, motivators, moderators, and consultants, (d) support systems in the form of Learning Implementation Plans, Teacher Books, Student Books, and Participant Worksheets Educate, (e) instructional impact in the form of students' 4C's skills and accompaniment impact in the form of critical thinking, creative thinking, responsibility, openness, and understanding of concepts.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine whether there was a significant effect of the use digital storytelling on the speaking ability of the students n XI grade at SMA Negeri 1 Aek Songsongan . This research was a quantitative research. It was conducted in XI grade at SMA Negeri 1 Aek Songsongan in the academic year 2021/2022. The total population was 124 students and researcher took 30 students for the experimental group and 30 students for the control class which meant 60 students as a total sample. In collecting data, researcher used orraly tests by speaking to retell the summary of the story as instruments. Tests were pre-tests given before treatment and post tests given after treatment. Then, the data obtained were analyzed by applying the t-test formula. The researcher found that the post–test mean score in the experiment group was higher than the control group. The results showed that the t-observe was higher than t-table (4.07 > 1.68) at a significant level of 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) was 58. The null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative (Ha) was accepted. Thus, the use of the digital storytelling has a signficant effect on students’ speaking ability in the XI grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Aek Songsongan.

Abstract

The aim of study is to examine the use of TikTok which is useful for improving students' vocabulary mastery. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative analysis method. This observation was carried out for 3 days starting on Sunday, April 10-13, 2022. The subjects of this study were selected into two groups, namely students who use TikTok and those who do not use TikTok, totaling 8 students as representatives of EFL students at UMN AL Washliyah Medan. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews and tests, while data analysis used scoring techniques, then to find out the vocabulary mastery achieved by students, from all research data found 8 research subjects with 2 students actively watching review-based content with a vulnerable time where they often use their spare time to use this TikTok application. Students who were classified as active openly stated that the TikTok application really helped improve their vocabulary, to cover their difficulties in learning vocabulary. Meanwhile, students who do not use TikTok are divided into 1 student who relies on himself as a role in helping to learn vocabulary, 2 people rely on the people closest to them while 1 other student relies on a dictionary application in learning his vocabulary. This triggers them to not elaborate on the use of many applications, one of which is TikTok in covering their vocabulary learning difficulties. Some of the motivation they get in learning vocabulary is from the people closest to them such as parents, friends, teachers and even their smartphones help them improve their vocabulary, the only difference is parental control over them in using this application where active users get support use the application while those who are not users of the TikTok application do not. The results of this study show that students' vocabulary mastery is very influential on how active they are on social media, especially TikTok, it can be seen from the test scores of active users who do not use it and also parental control and their closest people are needed in the use of social media, especially TikTok. . Some of the other reasons people find it difficult to understand English is because they do not understand its meaning and rarely use it in their daily communication. Therefore, by increasing their vocabulary, it is easier for them to understand what they read, listen, write, and speak.

Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students' ability in writing procedure text using project-based learning. The formulation of the problem is: “Does the use of project-based learning improve the students' ability in writing procedure text”. The aims  of the research is: “To find out whether the use of project-based  learning improves the students' ability in writing procedure text”. In this research, the subject of the research were the grade XI-1 students at SMA Al-Washliyah Tanjung Morawa  in  2021/2022 academic  years  which  consists  of  30  students.  In  carrying out  this  research,  the  researcher  used  classroom  action  research  (CAR)  as  a research  method. The researcher  used  the  Kemmis  and  Mc  Taggart  model. The researchers  and  English  teachers  collaborated  onthis  research.  Researchers  as teachers  and  teachers  as  observers.  This  research  was  carried  out  based  on research  procedures,  namely  planning,  action,  observation,  and  reflection.  This research  consisted  of  two  cycles.  One  cycle  consisted  of  two  meetings.The instruments used for  get data were interview guidelines, questionnaire, test, and field notes. To analyze student scores, the mean of students, the class percentage, and percentage of  students'  improvement formulas  are used. The results  of the research  using  project-based  learning  showed  that  there  was  an  increase  in students'  ability  in  writing  procedure  text.  Students  get  grades  gradually  until students  get  good  grades.  The  minimum  completeness  criteria  score  (KKM)  in English subjects is 75. The average score of students on the pre-test is 61.13. The average score of students in post-test one is 69.06 and there are 40% of students who can get the KKM score. The students' mean score on post-test two was 78.4. And there are 83.3% of students who can get the KKM score. This means that the research has succeeded in achieving the success criteria, namely 75% of students get the KKM score. In addition, there were very positive responses from students and teachers regarding the use of project-based learning.So, it can be concluded that project-based learning can improve students' ability in writing procedure text

Abstract

Pada kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang menjadi mitra adalah UPT SD NEGERI 067250 Medan yang beralamat di Jl.mangaan I Gg Amal I kelurahan Mabar Hilir Kecamatan Medan Deli Kota Medan. Masalah mitra dari hasil observasi diketahui masih banyak guru yang belum memahami proses Pembelajaran Berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) dengan baik dan benar hal ini dapat dilihat dari seluruh jumlah guru yang hadir pada kegiatan PKM sebanyak 30 Guru yang akan mengikuti Pembelajaran Berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) hanya 3 orang saja yang pernah mendengar Pembelajaran Berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) sedangkan 27 orang guru belum mengetahuinya. Metode kegiatan ini : (1) Penyajian materi mengenai pembelajran berbasis Culturally Pesponsive Teaching (CRT). , (2) Pendampingan sosialisasi pembelajaran berbasis budaya, (3) Evaluasi kegiatan dengan memberikan angket, (4) Refleksi hasil kegiatan. Dari keseluruhan rangkaian proses kegiatan pelatihan yang dilakukan, jumlah guru yang hadir yang ada berjumlah 30 orang, sehingga total dari kegiatan tersebut adalah 100% guru ikut berpartisipasi dan antusias dalam mengikuti pelatihan pembuatan Pembelajaran Berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) Sebanyak 90% guru memberikan respon berupa pertanyaan dapat memahami Pembelajaran Berbasis Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT). Dan 10 % memberikan pernyataan belum memahami dengan baik terkait kegiatan tersebut di UPT SD NEGERI 067250.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan pengabdian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh masih minimnya pemahaman nilai-nilai Pancasila sebagai pandangan hidup dalam bermasyarakat dan berbangsa serta belum maksimalnya penerapan nilai-nilai Pancasila pada peserta didik di tingkat pendidikan sekolah dasar. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sosialisasi pemahaman kepada guru-guru di UPT SD NEGERI 067250 Medan yang beralamat di Jl.Mangaan I Gg Amal I kelurahan Mabar Hilir Kecamatan Medan Deli Kota Medan. Peserta pengabdian adalah guru-guru di UPT SD NEGERI 067250. Diharapkan melalui kegiatan sosialisasi ini, para guru lebih dapat memahami makna nilai-nilai Pancasila dan dapat mengaplikasikannya di sekolah serta guru mampu membawa arah perubahan perkembangan siswa lebih baik lebih mencintai bangsa dan negaranya yang berkarakter Pancasila. Di dunia pendidikan, Pancasila dijadikan sebagai acuan dan pegangan guru dalam mengajar siswa pada kegiatan pembelajaran di sekolah dasar.Peserta pengabdian adalah guru-guru di UPT SD NEGERI 067250 yang berjumlah 30 orang. Metode kegiatan ini: (1) Penyajian materi, (2) Pendampingan pemahaman materi, (3) Evaluasi kegiatan melalui pemberian angket, (4) Refleksi hasil kegiatan. Pelaksanaan pengabdian ini terlaksana dengan lancar, hal ini terlihat dari seluruh guru berpartisipasi dalam kegiatan serta hasil respon memperlihatkan tingkat pemahaman guru yang tinggi dalam memahami materi yang disampaikan pemateri.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the use of short films can increase students' ability to increase idioms through the discussion method at SMA Negeri 1 Raya Kahean Academic Year 2021/2022. This study uses an experimental method which is conducted in three procedures. Each procedure consists of, pre-test, treatment and post-test. The sample was divided into two groups, 30 students as an experimental group taken from class XI IPA 1 and 30 students as a control group taken from class XI IPA 2. In collecting data, the test used by researchers were pre-test and post-test. Observations and multiple-choice test instruments were used in this study. The results showed that using Nadia's Short Film through the discussion or group method had a positive effect on increasing idiom knowledge in students of SMA Negeri 1 Raya Kahean Academic Year 2021/202 This can be proven based on the research results in the experimental group, previously the highest student pre-test result was 65 and the lowest was 45, and the highest student post-test result was 85 and the lowest was 70. As for the research results in the control group, the highest student pre-test result was 55 and the lowest was 40, and the highest student post-test result was 70 and the lowest was 50. It shows that students are helped in increasing knowledge with Short Film media followed by the discussion method. Further research is also needed in elaborating and finding more techniques to solve this problem in learning
