Abstract

The background of this research comes from a problem which shows that the character of caring for the environment has not emerged in children aged 4-5 years at KB Hasanah Tanjung Pinang Village regarding plastic waste management. The research problems are 1) Plastic waste in the school environment has not been used optimally, 2) The character of caring for the environment in children has not appeared related to plastic waste management, 3) The inculcation of environmental care characters through the ecobrick program, especially for children aged 4-5 years. The purpose of this study is to explain the development of the use of plastic waste in schools and to analyze the development of the character of caring for the environment in children through the ecobrick program. This study used a descriptive qualitative method which wanted to find out data regarding the development of the character of caring for the environment through the ecobrick program at KB Hasanah, Tanjung Pinang Village. The data for this study were taken through observations of children aged 4-5 years, interviews with Hasanah Family Planning teachers in Tanjung Pinang Village, and sports activities for children aged 4-5 years when utilizing plastic waste through the ecobrick program. The results of research at KB Hasanah Tanjung Pinang Village show that caring for the environment can be grown in children aged 4-5 years through the ecobrick program. The environmental care characters that have been implemented by children aged 4-5 at KB Hasanah Tanjung Pinang Village include disposing of trash in its place, disposing of organic and inorganic waste, using sufficient water, washing hands before and after eating using soap, and washing hands after finishing play.
