Abstract

Limbangan Village is located at the Wanareja District, Cilacap Regency, Central Java. It is one of the areas prone to flash floods. Based on data, flash floods were recorded on 27 October 2021 which were caused by the overflow of the Cigeugeumeuh River and resulted in hundreds of houses and markets being damaged. Therefore, to reduce losses due to disasters that occur, especially flash floods in Limbangan Village, mitigation efforts are carried out in the form of socialization of community-based management of flash floods. Efforts to carry out community-based flood management in Cilacap Regency, were carried out through collaboration between the Public Works Polytechnic and Limbangan Village. The socialization of flood management in Limbangan Village uses concept of participatory rural community social approach or Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). At the end, community service activities in Cilacap Regency by the Public Works Polytechnic, Semarang have been successfully held. The results achieved in the implementation of this community service are the provision of information on rainfall that has the potential to cause flash floods, the learning process of disaster mitigation as a preparedness measure for flash floods, flood-prone and evacuation maps, and communication tools as a continuation of the community service program.

Abstract

One of the irrigation areas in Central Java Province is the Comal Irrigation Area (D.I Comal) which is included in the Comal Watershed (DAS). D.I Comal has an area of 8946.79 Ha. The current condition of the Comal irrigation area is experiencing damage to several parts of the canal. This can cause water loss/leakage thereby reducing irrigation efficiency and effectiveness. This problem is being addressed by the Water Users Farmers Association (P3A) independently. The development of irrigation modernization goes up with the expansion of various alternative materials for irrigation channels, including ferrocement. Ferrocement is a mortar made from a homogeneous mixture of sand, cement, water and reinforced with reinforcement coated with woven wire (galvanized) with thickness of 3 to 6 cm. The Public Works Polytechnic provides community service by building a pilot irrigation repair using ferrocement concrete. The project are rehabilitation of tertiary channels and distribution boxes. This community service is in collaboration with P3A D.I Comal and the Irrigation Engineering Center. Outreach activities were also carried out to the public. It is hoped that the inclusion of PU Polytechnic in the community will provide benefits to the society in improving the quality of the irrigation network in D.I Comal.

Abstract

Getasan is a sub-district in Semarang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia which is located on the slopes of Mount Merbabu between Salatiga City and Magelang Regency. Batur is one of the villages in the Getasan Sub-District and is famous as one of the vegetable-producing areas in Semarang Regency. Utilization of water resources for vegetables in Batur Village currently still relies heavily on conventional irrigation which requires quite a lot of water. The implementation of a drip irrigation system is expected to be an alternative to save water use, especially during the dry season, so that vegetable production can continue throughout the year. The drip irrigation system technology implemented in Batur Village, Getasan Sub-District, Semarang Regency, needs to be known and understood by the public. Therefore, socialization as a transfer of knowledge about drip irrigation technology is needed, including community involvement in the process of installing/creating a pilot application of a drip irrigation system in their area. The results achieved in implementing this community service are the delivery of information regarding the benefits of drip irrigation technology, drip irrigation design, as well as operational and maintenance patterns of drip irrigation networks.
