Abstract

This study aims to explore the experience of walking exercise with breathing control in COPD patients. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive phenomenological approach. Participants in this study amounted to 15 people with COPD. Data obtained from in-depth interviews, then analyzed using the Colaizzi method. The results showed that five themes were identified, namely: 1) the implementation of walking exercises with breathing control; 2) increased physical activity and quality of life; 3) increase oxygen demand and reduce shortness of breath; 4) reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality; and 5) family support. In conclusion, walking and breathing exercises are good exercise choices for COPD because they can meet oxygen needs, reduce shortness of breath, reduce anxiety and stress in COPD. Abstract

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a high disease burden and negatively impacts the bio-psycho-social well-being of patients, such as anxiety, depression, and shortness of breath. Anxiety and depression can increase morbidity and worsen the condition and health status of the patient. This systematic review aimed to analyze the effect of walking exercises with breathing control on the degree of shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression in COPD patients. Methods: The data sources were taken from EBSCO, PubMed, and ProQuest using related keywords. Articles were selected using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) diagram method. Results: Ten articles in this systematic review obtained three intervention categories: 1) intervention combined walking exercises with breathing control can be performed 30 minutes per session 2-3 times a week; 2) walking exercise intervention is performed thrice a week for 30-45 minutes per session; 3) breathing control exercise intervention is performed 10-30 minutes with a duration of 2 times a day in the morning and night or can be performed three times a week. Those three intervention categories significantly reduced the degree of shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression in COPD patients. Conclusion: Findings from this systematic review suggest that walking exercise intervention in COPD patients can help reduce the degree of shortness of breath, anxiety, and depression.

Abstract

The quality of education is increasing along with technological developments, one of which is nursing education which is experiencing rapid changes. Nursing students must have the ability to think critically to integrate various sources of knowledge in order to solve problems creatively and logically. Nursing education requires learning methods that enable students to actively address various nursing problems that arise in clinical practice. Flipped learning or reverse learning is a learning model that requires lecturers to transfer lectures directly from the classroom to individual study rooms (at home) with the help of technology. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of applying the flipped learning method to the critical thinking skills of nursing students. Type of quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pre-test post-test approach. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling, namely all students in class A and B in the third semester of the Bachelor of Nursing Study Program. This research started from the preparation stage by preparing flipped learning model materials in the form of modules, power points and videos as well as preparing instruments on the Critical Thinking Disposition Self-Rating Form (CTDSRF) to measure critical thinking skills. Data analysis used paired t-test and t-test for independent groups to determine the effectiveness of the flipped learning method on critical thinking skills of nursing students. The results of both the intervention and control group studies were 0.001 ˂ 0.05, which means that the application of the flipped learning method was able to improve critical thinking skills. Flipped learning is more effective in improving the critical thinking skills of nursing students compared to conventional learning, where the lecturer makes materials in the form of narratives, power points and videos. Flipped Learning is one of the selected learning models as a feasible learning model to apply.

Abstract

Sleep is one of the essential factors in life and affects glucose metabolism, so it is crucial for diabetic patients to have good quality sleep to control their diabetes. The study aimed to analyze the relationship between sleep quality and HbA1c levels in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study was conducted with a cross-sectional study approach with a sample of 170 respondents with convenience sampling from a hospital in Banda Aceh. Sleep quality data was measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and HbA1c levels were obtained from the results of respondents' HbA1c examinations in the last three months analyzed through chi-square. The results showed a significant relationship between sleep quality and respondents' HbA1c levels (p = 0.008), where respondents (64.1%) with poor sleep quality had an eight times the risk of having uncontrolled HbA1c levels compared to respondents with good sleep quality. Education on the importance of sleep health in patients regularly should be carried out in groups by health services to motivate T2DM patients to enjoy adequate sleep and improve their glycemic control through learning media that interest patients

The methods are socialization, focus group discussion, game simulation through snake and ladder educational games, healthy snack food puzzles, self-evaluation, and documentation. The results obtained from this activity were in the form of increasing the knowledge score of healthy snack food after education and educational games and commitment from partners to incorporate healthy snack food materials into PJOK subjects. This result shows that knowledge of healthy snacks can be improved through snake and ladder educational game activities and beneficial snack food puzzle games.
