Abstract

The wide-spread news which tarnished the name of STAIN Curup cause a negative image of this institution in community. It can be seen from the decreasing of public interest to learn at STAIN Curup by the decline in number of participants followed selections in STAIN Curup at 2013-2015. This study aims to provide an overview and in-depth explanation about the image restoration strategies of STAIN Curup. This research was conducted using qualitative method with a case study approach. The data collecting done by observations, interviews, documentary studies, and data analysis to find answers to; (1) How is the strategy of STAIN Curup to recover its image? (2) What are the obstacles in recovering the image of STAIN Curup? The results showed that the strategy done by STAIN Curup is promotion to the schools annually. The inhibiting factors are: first, tactic. The tactic used in image restoration of STAIN Curup concentrated just on one form, namely the school to school promotion. The second factor is the role and tasks of Public Relation. The roles and tasks are not maximized, PR is just still reputed as the sender of letters. The third factor is the organizational communication. It is not running properly. Communication within an organization plays an important role, without it the organizational life will be fragile, can not grow and even die maybe.

Abstract

The development of STAIN Curup has shown a significant improvement both in terms of the number of students and the institutional aspect. The existence of STAIN Curup began to be felt as part of the world of education not only for the environment but also for the nearest regency areas such as Lubuk Linggau, Kepayang, Lebong, Bengkulu City, Palembang, Bukit Tinggi and even from Java Island. This development is not directly proportional to the growth of the number of new students each year in the Communication Studies and Islamic Broadcasting Program (Prodi KPI), which is still far tertiggal compared with other Prodi-Prodi in STAIN Curup. Therefore, this research tries to find a solution about it, by focusing on two research problems (1) How is the perception of MA students about KPI Study, Department of Propagation, STAIN Curup? (2) What factors influence students perception about KPI Prodi Major Dakwah STAIN Curup? This research sees information about the KPI Prodi obtained from family / friends / neighbors who are currently or have completed education at STAIN Curup, mass media that is through advertisement acceptance new newspaper Daily Newspaper Radar Pat Petulai, and Radio Pesona FM, and from brochure of student admission new. Then the information will be organized and interpreted. Based on the result of the research, the perception of MAN Curup and MA Ar-Rahmah students toward KPI Study Program of STAIN Curup Dakwah, among others: Prodi KPI is good enough, KPI Prodi still doubt, and not too familiar with Prodi KPI. The formation of MA students perceptions of KPI study is influenced by several factors. Factors that influence the perception of MA students include: experience, motivation, interests and needs, expectations, and stereotypes.

Abstract

This study is a study focused on finding meaning towards the behavior of internet usage as reference of STAIN Curup students. In line with the concept of an active audience, this research would focus on the internet as a mass media. With the advancement of information technology and mass media, providing various facilities in accessing information especially through the internet. STAIN Curup students are required to keep updating their knowledge and information especially with regard to their studies. This need is what makes the student must continue to add the supporting reference study. In addition to books, print journals and modules, the internet becomes one of the reference sources used by students. Therefore, it needs to be studied further about how the use of internet as a reference STAIN Curup students? how is the impact of internet use as a reference of STAIN Curup students? To answer the problems, this research uses the uses and gratifications theory and the moderate effect model, which is expected to give meaning and peel the phenomenon of internet usage on the students. In line with the uses and gratifications theory, satisfaction will arise if needs are met. In this case, the satisfaction of internet usage as reference of student is seen from the functioning of mass media, among others: information function, entertainment function, persuasion function, cultural transmission function and social inheritance, correlation function (linking). While the impact of internet use as a reference of students, among others, cognitive impact, affective impact, and behavioral impact. The impact of internet usage is also supported by individual factors; such as selective attention, selective perception, and selective retention, motivation and knowledge, beliefs, opinions, values, and needs, persuasion, personality and adjustment. And social factors, among others; age, sex, education and training, occupation and income, religion, residence.
