Abstract

In Indonesia, diarrheal disease still frequently affects toddlers. In 2017, Lampulo Health Center in Banda Aceh City recorded 216 cases of diarrhea among toddlers. The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between mothers' knowledge and the prevention of diarrhea in toddlers within the Lampulo Public Health Center's service area in Banda Alam Subdistrict, Banda Aceh, in 2019. This was a cross-sectional study with a target population of 216 toddlers. We selected 68 respondents using a proportional sampling technique. The research took place in the Lampulo Health Center's service area, Kuta Alam Sub-District, Banda Aceh City, from May 2 to May 22, 2019. The findings revealed several concerning statistics: 54.4% of children under five did not receive exclusive breastfeeding, 54.4% of toddlers had a poor diet (MP-ASI), 63.2% used contaminated water, 58.8% had inadequate handwashing practices, 60.3% used unsanitary diapers (Jamaban), 63.2% disposed of baby stool improperly, 64.7% of toddlers had not received measles immunization, 54.4% of mothers had insufficient knowledge, and 60.3% of mothers were unaware of how to prevent diarrhea. Statistical analysis yielded a P-value of 0.001, indicating a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge and the prevention of diarrhea in infants at the Lampulo Health Center in Banda Alam Sub-District, Banda Aceh City in 2019. We recommend that the Health Center implement the LROA (Layanan Pencegahan Diare pada Balita) program to provide diarrhea prevention services for toddlers by healthcare professionals to mothers with limited knowledge on the subject.

Abstract

Malnutrition in young individuals can have severe consequences, including complex issues such as short stature and stunting. Stunting during early childhood can negatively impact intelligence quotient (IQ), psychomotor development, motor skills, and neurosensory integration. Therefore, the role of parents in preventing stunting is crucial. The aim of this research is to investigate strategies for preventing stunting among families with newborns using the Planned Behavior Theory approach in Lampulo Village, Banda Aceh City, in 2019. This research is a descriptive correlation study with a cross-sectional approach, conducted from August 7th to 31st, 2019. The study's population consisted of all mothers at risk of stunting in Lampulo Village, Banda Aceh City, with a sample size of 74 people selected through proportional sampling. The study's results indicated that there was a significant influence of behavioral beliefs (p=0.011), normative beliefs (p=0.021), and control beliefs (p=0.020) on stunting prevention in families with young children. It is hoped that this research can provide valuable insights to healthcare providers and community health centers (posyandu) in delivering information on stunting prevention.

Abstract

Disaster is often perceived as uncontrollable things. Self-efficacy has been identified in having significant influence toward behavior in facing uncontrollable problems. School is one of the areas that have a higher risk of casualties during earthquake and tsunami because it is a gathering place of students, teachers, and other academic members especially on school hours; Therefore, they need the preparedness to face the disaster. The purpose of this research is to understand the correlation between self-efficacy and disaster preparedness of earthquake and tsunami on students at State Senior High School 13 of Banda Aceh. The type of the research is descriptive-correlative method with a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The instrument used is a questionnaire which is self-efficacy questionnaire and preparedness questionnaire that develop by LIPI-UNESCO/ISDR. The data analysis used in this research was Spearman’s Correlation. This research shows that there is a significant correlation between self-efficacy and disaster preparedness on students at State Senior High School 13 of Banda Aceh. The data analysis shows that p-value of self-efficacy (0.001) including dimension of level (0.007), dimension of strength (0.002), dimension of generalization (0.001). Schools are recommended to improve students’ self-efficacy with disaster preparedness simulation training of earthquake and tsunami.

Abstract

Menstruation marks the onset of a woman's reproductive phase. Dysmenorrhea is a common issue among young women, often affecting their daily routines. To alleviate dysmenorrhea symptoms, various approaches, both pharmacological and non-pharmacological, have been explored. One such non-pharmacological method involves consuming green coconut water, which is rich in calcium, magnesium, and vitamin C. This research aims to assess the impact of green coconut water (Cocos nucifera Linn variety Viridis) on reducing menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) among students at Babun Najah Islamic State Junior High School in Banda Aceh. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The research population comprised 65 students, with 15 respondents participating in the study. Data collection took place from May 1st to 20th, 2023. The Wilcoxon test results for the pretest conducted on the first day yielded a mean score of 5.133, while the posttest on the third day resulted in a mean score of 0.733, with a significance value of 0.000, indicating a reduction in menstrual pain. The findings of this research suggest that the consumption of green coconut water (Cocos nucifera Linn variety Viridis) can effectively reduce dysmenorrhea among students at Babun Najah Islamic State Junior High School in Banda Aceh. It is recommended that respondents consider incorporating green coconut water into their routines to alleviate dysmenorrhea pain.

Abstract

A Caesarean Section (C-section) is a surgical procedure in which a fetus is delivered through an incision made in the abdominal and uterine walls, provided that the uterus is intact, and the fetus weighs more than 500 grams. Abdominal incisions can cause pain. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be employed to alleviate post-operative abdominal pain in C-section patients is Benson Relaxation Therapy. This study aims to investigate the impact of Benson Relaxation Therapy on Pain Reduction in Post-Operative C-Section Patients. This research is categorized as a quasi-experimental study using a one-group pretest-posttest design approach. Data collection took place from August 15th to 26th, 2022, involving a population of 15 post-C-section mothers. Data were collected using both primary and secondary sources and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, as well as univariate and bivariate analysis techniques. The study results showed a significant difference in pain levels before and after the administration of Benson Relaxation Therapy, with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). It is hoped that this research will enhance postpartum mothers' awareness of pain-reduction therapies, prompting them to consult healthcare professionals (doctors and nurses) and participate in seminars or workshops organized by relevant institutions.
