Abstract

The number of people with diabetes mellitus from year to year tends to increase. One of the efforts that can be made to control the increase in blood sugar is to control the intake of foods that have a low glycemic index, one of which is local food in the Southeast Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of sikkato local food consumption in reducing fasting blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus. This study used a one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were all the people of Kendari City who suffer from diabetes mellitus and are in the working area of the Kendari City Public Health Center, totaling 47 people, while the sample size was 15 people. Blood sugar levels before and after treatment were measured using a glucometer. Then an analysis of differences in fasting blood glucose levels between before and after treatment was performed using a paired sample t-test. The results of fasting blood sugar examination were 328.60 mg/dl (before treatment) and 237.80 mg/dl (after treatment). The results of the analysis of the differences showed a value of p = 0.000, which meant that there were differences in blood sugar levels between before and after treatment. It was concluded that the consumption of sikkato local food was effective in reducing fasting blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus.Keywords: diabetes mellitus; glycemic index; sikkato; fasting blood sugar ABSTRAK Jumlah penderita diabetes mellitus dari tahun ketahun cenderung mengalami peningkatan. Salah satu upaya yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengontrol kenaikan gula darah adalah dengan mengontrol asupan pangan yang mempunyai indeks glikemik yang rendah, salah satunya adalah pangan lokal sultra sikkato. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas konsumsi pangan lokal sikkato dalam menurunkan kadar gula darah puasa pada penderita diabetes mellitus. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest-postest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh masyarakat Kota Kendari yang menderita diabetes mellitus dan berada pada wilayah kerja Puskesmas Perumnas Kota Kendari yang berjumlah 47 orang, sedangkan ukura sampel adalah 15 orang. Kadar gula darah sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan diukur menggunakan glukometer. Selanjutnya dilakukan analisis perbedaan kadar gula darah puasa antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan menggunakan paired sample t-test. Hasil pemeriksaan gula darah puasa adalah 328,60 mg/dl (sebelum perlakuan) dan 237,80 mg/dl (sesudah perlakuan). Hasil analisis perbedaan menunjukkan nilai p = 0,000, yang berarti ada perbedaan kadar gula darah antara sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Disimpulkan bahwa konsumsi pangan lokal sikkato efektif untuk menurunkan kadar gula darah puasa penderita diabetes melitus. Kata kunci: diabtes melitus; indeks glikemik; sikkato; gula darah puasa
