Abstract

A work ethic that is rooted or based on a work culture is a characteristic spirit that is typical of a person or group of people / society about work which is oriented towards an effort to always seek improvements or improvements to what has been achieved, by applying values, theories and methods new for the advancement of mankind. Work ethic and work essence according to Bhagawadgita that work is a yadnya. If the work ethic says work based on culture, then work in Catur Marga, especially Karma Marga, is work that is reflected in its yad form. Catur Marga which consists of bhakti marga, jnana marga, karma marga and king marga, the four of which are a system, namely a system or approach to connecting oneself with God Almighty. This is necessary in the sense that religion is inseparable from our belief and relationship as humans to God as the creator of the universe. This study aims to determine the form of motivation for the work ethic of Hindus in Panglipuran Tourism Village, Bangli Regency, work ethic motivation as the implementation of the values of karma marga teachings, and work ethics based on the values of karma marga teachings in the lives of Hindus in Panglipuran Tourism Village, Bangli Regency. In this study, using three theories, namely the theory of motivation, theory of values and social theory. This research uses methods, namely; method of determining the location, type of data and research data sources, research objects and subjects, data collection techniques, methods of determining informants, and methods of data analysis. In data collection techniques, the authors use methods, namely: observation, literature and interviews.Keywords: Work ethic, implementation, Karma marga teachings, Panglipuran Tourism Village

Abstract

This study is aimed at investigating the readiness of the graduates of Job Training Institute to work in hospitality industry in terms of the English communication ability, which includes the ability to listen, speak, read and write. As samples, 100 graduates from 5 Job Training Institute in Buleleng, Bali were asked to respond to a questionnaire. The questionnaire was analyzed statistically to find out the mean, and deviation standard. The result was then categorized and it was found that the readiness of the graduates can be categorized in the adequate level. Thus, it is suggested that the graduates need to develop and increase their ability in communicating in English, especially in speaking and writing, as productive skills to make themselves ready to work in hospitality industry.

Abstract

This study aimed at investigating teachers’ and students’ perception on the development of intercultural communicative competence in English for Tourism subjects and the dimension which is perceived to be needed the most. The study was conducted in the form of descriptive study. Five English teachers and twenty-five students who were joining training programs in hotels were chosen as subjects. The data were collected by using questionnaires and interview. The result showed that both students are teachers perceived that intercultural communicative competence is strongly needed in English tourism class. It was also revealed that among three dimensions of ICC, skill is placed in the first place due to its importance, followed by attitude and knowledge.  Thus, this study give implication to the curriculum development to insert intercultural communicative competence to be the additional goal of the English lesson since it is needed by the students in to develop their professional competence in tourism industry.

Abstract

This article presents the result of a study investigating the local and global culture presented in EFL instruction for tourism students. More specifically, this research investigated the culture inserted by teachers, the reasons for the insertion, and the practice of the insertion of the local and global culture in EFL instruction for tourism students. The study was conducted in the form of qualitative research. The data was collected through interviews and document analysis. The participants of the study were English lecturers teaching English in a tourism study program. The data collected underwent a process of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing for the data analysis. Based on the analysis of the study, it was found that (1) local and global cultures were inserted in English instruction although local culture was presented more than global culture, (2) the local culture was inserted to promote cultural identity and nationalism, provide better customer service, enhance cultural awareness, and enhance sustainable tourism; while global culture was inserted to enhance the success of language learning, enhance intercultural communicative competence, and increase employability, and (3) local and global culture were inserted by conducting cultural discussion, cultural comparison and cultural project.
