Abstract

This study intended to describe the perception of EFL students regarding the advantages, challenges, and strategies associated with utilizing Animaker as a learning media in the recount text material. The research method was qualitative. Three EFL students from an Indonesian private junior high school were interviewed to obtain the research data. The finding of this study showed that using Animaker as a learning tool had six advantages for students, including making it simpler for them to comprehend the subject matter, remember lesson details, perform better in class and earn higher grades, make learning enjoyable, boost motivation, and make vocabulary learning simpler. Even though the animated videos created with the Animaker application expanded their vocabulary, students had trouble interpreting words that were difficult to translate. As a result, they had four strategies for overcoming their challenges in terms of vocabulary, namely asking teachers and colleagues for explanations, using a bilingual dictionary, using a monolingual dictionary, and guessing meaning from the context. This study concluded that EFL students had a positive perception of using Animaker as a learning media in the recount text material. This positive perception was shown by the various advantages they got from this animated video-based learning media, but they faced vocabulary challenges. They used strategies in the vocabulary with the help of others (social strategy) and without the help of others (determination strategy).Â
