Abstract

Acne is a skin disease due to chronic inflammation with complex pathogenesis. The public has empirically used the white plant to treat wounds on the skin, it contains flavonoids, saponins, and tannins which can protect the skin from bacteria and can inhibit bacterial growth. This study aims to test the antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. The ethanol extract of Putihan leaves was obtained by maceration using 96% ethanol solvent, formulated and evaluated for facial soap gel preparations of ethanol extract of Putihan leaves with various extract concentrations of 0% (F0), 10% (F1), 13% (F2), and 15% (F3) which testing antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. The results showed that the antibacterial activity of the facial soap gel preparation of ethanol extract of Putihan leaves with a concentration of 10% had an inhibition of 8.4 ± 0.20 mm, 13% had an inhibition of 9.5 ± 0.23 mm and 15% had an inhibition of 10.6 ± 0.64mm. Based on this description, the resulting gel preparation has antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acne. The three formulas are included in the medium inhibition zone category, but the one with the broadest inhibition zone is at a concentration of 15%.

Abstract

Hyperglycemia occurs when the body's condition is too much blood glucose that exceeds normal limits in the body because the body does not produce insulin properly. Betel leaves and ginger rhizomes have long been used by the people in Indonesia as traditional medicines that are believed to reduce blood glucose levels. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of betel leaves and ginger rhizomes empirically to reduce blood glucose levels in hyperglycemia male rats. Betel leaves and rhizomes of ginger are made in the form of infusions and used on 30 heads of hyperglycemia mice divided into 6 groups. Normal group, negative group induced alloxane, positive group (glibenklamide), betel leaf infusion group, ginger rhizome infusion group, betel leaf infusion combination group and ginger rhizome infusion, testing was carried out for 30 days. Data were analyzed with IBM SPSS 20.0 ANOVA and post hoc tukey HSD assays. The results showed that betel leaf infusion at a dose of 2 ml / kg BB and ginger rhizome infusion dose of 2ml / kg BB single administration could reduce blood glucose levels while in combination administration it was seen that there was less effective in reducing blood glucose levels in male white rats.

Abstract

Pear skin contains flavonoids which have potential as antioxidants. Considering the existence of humans as social creatures, interacting with each other requires self-confidence to be well accepted. For this reason, humans need self-care to appear charming, attractive and full of self-confidence. Masks are a type of cosmetic treatment that is well known and widely used. The mask works deeply to remove dead horn cells on the skin. This research aimed to determine the potential antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of pear peel (Pyrus bretschneideri) which was formulated as a sheet mask preparation. Extraction was carried out by maceration using 96% ethanol to obtain pear peel extract. The antioxidant activity test method was carried out using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. The results obtained from the concentration of the sheet mask preparation of pear peel extract (Phyrus bretschneideri) were homogeneous and stable. The pH results obtained from F0 (5,1), F1 (5,4), F2 (5,5), F3 (5,6), are still within the safe range of facial skin pH. The results of the antioxidant activity test showed that the IC50 value for F1 was 84.58 ppm with intensity (Strong), F2 69.96 ppm with intensity (Strong), and F3 63.79 ppm with intensity (Strong).
