Abstract

ABSTRACT Improving the quality of small-scale fisheries can be achieved by increasing the selectivity of fishing gear. An assessment of the effect of mesh size on gillnet fishing gear on Kogholofano Island, Muna Regency is a form of the effort in question. This research was carried out with the aim of finding out 1) Comparison of the composition of the types of catch from basic gill nets with 2 inch and 2.5 inch eye nets in the waters of Kohgolofano Island. 2) Comparison of the dominant sizes of fish caught in basic gill nets with nets measuring 2 inches and 2.5 inches in the waters of Kohgolifano Island. 3) The difference in the weight of catches from basic gill nets with nets measuring 2 inches and 2.5 inches in the waters of Kohgolofano Island. This research was carried out 15 times during one month, namely March 2023 in the waters of Kogholifano Island. The analysis used is species composition analysis, fish size composition analysis, differences in catch weight and statistical tests using the t test. The composition of the catch during the research was selar, male mackerel, kurisi, gulama, jackfruit seed fish and lencam, dominated by male mackerel and green selar fish. However, the results of the t test showed that the weight of the catch from the two eye-sized nets was not significantly different from the catch. Abstract

Guilding barrier is a type of fishing gear that is fixed and passive, which in collecting fish is very dependent on the tides. Based on this, this research was conducted to know: 1) the number of catches of sero; 2) species composition and fish size composition; and 3) sero fishery productivity based on the moon phase. The research was conducted in April-June 2022 in Tapulaga Waters, Soropia District, Konawe. Sampling was carried out in 4 lunar phases including the new moon phase, the first quarter moon, the bright moon, and the second quarter moon. Found 357 individuals caught consisting of 21 species of fish. The highest species composition was found in the second quarter with 129 individuals (36.13%), and the lowest in the quarter with 54 individuals (15.12%). The three (3) dominant fish species are squid (Loligo sp), rabbitfish  (Siganus canaliculatus), and giant trevally (Caranx ignobilis). The caught squid (Loligo sp.) occupy all size ranges from the smallest (10.3-15.4 cmTL) to the largest (46.6-51.8 cmTL) in each lunar phase, except for the new moon phase. Caranxignobilis ranges from 13.3-38.1 cmTL, with the highest size composition at 16.9-20.5 cmTL in the first quarter moon phase. Siganus canaliculatus caught at sizes 3.3-19.8 cmTL had the highest catches at sizes 3.3-4.4, namely the new moon, full moon, and second quarter moon phases. The lunar phase has a significant effect on the number of individuals caught where the new moon phase and the second quarter lunar phase have the highest productivity, namely an average of  3 kg.

Abstract

Kolaka Regency is one of the areas that has considerable potential in the field of fisheries which must be utilized as well as possible. One of the utilization of fisheries potential is the operation of basic longlines. Until now, it is not known what factors affect the catch of fish on longlines. Information on factors affecting longline catch is needed so that fishing operations can run optimally. The purpose of this study was to determine the variables that affect the longline catch. The variables analyzed in this study were the length of immersion, the size of the bait, the number of hooks, temperature and salinity. This research was conducted for two months, namely in November-December 2021 in Bone Bay waters, around Kolakaasi Village, Kolaka Regency. The data analysis methods used are curve estimation regression analysis and principal component analysis (PCA). Result of the research are  factors that affect bottom longline catch are temperature and salinity. The results of PCA analysis also show that there is a strong relationship between temperature and salinity factors on the amount of bottom longline catches in the waters around Kolakaasi Village seen from the contribution value of these two factors, namely temperature and salinity  is included in the strong category. This relationship shows that the temperature and salinity values affect the amount of bottom line catch.

Abstract

Floating lift net is a fishing gear that is classified into the lift net group. The main parts of the floating liftnet are the net, the liftnet house, and the lights as attractor . In addition to the strength of the light, it is believed that the color of the light will affect the fish's response considering that the visual abilities of each type of fish are different. Based on this, this research was conducted to know: 1) the number of catches using different underwater light colors; 2) the effectiveness of each color of light on the catch. The research was conducted from May to June 2022 in Lande Bay, Gerak Makmur Village, South Buton. The research was carried out using experimental fishing methods by conducting 15 attempts of catching alternately on 2 underwater light colors (yellow and blue). The results showed that the total catch for the yellow lights was 66.808 kg (72%) and the blue ones were 25.650 kg (28%). There were 10 species of fish caught consisting of 10 species caught on yellow lights and 9 species caught on blue lights. The three types of fish that were dominant in the 2 colors of the lights were anchovies (Stolephorus Sp), sardinella (Sardinella Sp), bigeye scad (Selar crumenophthalmus). Based on the proportion of total weight, it shows that the yellow dye is more effective (72%), compared to the blue dye (28%).
