Abstract

ABSTRACTMorphological Study of Larvae and Infection Pattern of Falcaustra kutcheri Bursey et.al.,2000 in Leucocephalon yuwonoi Mc Cord et.al., 1995 from Sulawesi. Some nematode parasitesFalcaustra kutcheri Bursey et.al., 2000 were found in alimentary tract of Leucocephalonyuwonoi, those were large in numbers in rectum and a small numbers in stomach. Both adultand larvae were collected from the host. The larvae were different on mouth structure and theshape of esophagus. An additional character, i.e two lateral branches of the anterior part ofintestine, that appear along the growth of larvae were reported.Key words: Nematode, Falcaustra kutcheri, infection pattern, larvae, morphology,Leucocephalon yuwonoi, Sulawesi

Abstract

ABSTRACTHerpetofaunal Community Structure of Ciremai Mountain National Park, WestJava. Distribution and broad habitat associations of the herpetofauna on four limitedsites of Ciremai mountain, west Java, Indonesia were studied. The field surveys wereconducted on Apuy-Arban site from 7 until 21 April 2006 and from 6 until 10 March2007, Linggarjati site from 10 until 15 February 2007 and from 19 May until 2 June2007, Seda forest from 18 until 24 February 2007 and Palutungan site from 26 Februaryuntil 4 March 2007. A variety of methods were employed to sample the herpetofauna. Atotal of 43 amphibians and reptiles taxa were recorded, comprising 16 frogs, 18 lizardsand 9 snakes. Two of them were endemic to Java, they are Huia masonii and Microhylaachatina. Unidentified and possibly undescribed species of unusual specimen referred tothe genus Elapoidis. From this study, three habitat were clustered and divided into twomain habitat zones for herpetofauna.Key words: amphibians, reptiles, gunung Ciremai.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Loss and Recent Condition Habitat of Sulawesian Tortoise (Indotestudo forstenii) atCape Santigi, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Unsupervised method of remote sensing wasapplied were evaluated to compute the habitat loss during five years, from 2001 to 2005 usingMultispecW32 software. Meanwhile, the fieldwork was done from 22 to 30 June 2007 todetermine the recent condition of habitat at Sologi hill, a part area of Cape Santigi. During fiveyears (from 2001 to 2005) the forest (habitat) in Cape Santigi was loss making up 60.04 % (rate= 419.25 ha/year). Sologi hill forest was shown as a remaining habitat in Cape Santigi. Vegetationin Sologi hill forest is relatively still good, but is threatened by human activities. We suggesteddeveloping the natural preserve to protect this tortoise, habitat and ecosystem also otherwildlife at Sologi hill.Key words: Indotestudo forstenii, habitat, Cape Santigi, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Habitat Characteristic of the Critically Endangered Turtle the Sulawesi ForestSulawesi Turtle Leucocephalon yuwonoi in Ganonggol and Bangkir Rivers in CentralSulawesi. The Sulawesi Forest Turtle (Leucocephalon ymonoi) is an endemic, criticallyendangered and listed in the appendix I1 of CITES. Captive breeding is needed toreintroduce the species into the original habitat. Captive breeding success includes acomprehensive knowledge on the biology and ecology of the species. The objective ofthis research is to investigate the habitat character of the turtle respectively vegetation ofthe riverbank, physical and chemical conditions ofthe water. Field surveys were conductedon the Moutong area from 1 l until 19 October 2004 and on the Bangkir area from 20until 26 October 2004. Vegetation data were obtained by developing four quadrate at theturtle habitat in each locality and were analyzed using Curtis method. The results shownthat the habitat of Leucocephalon yuwonoi is transparent streaming water, neutral, nottoo high dissolved oxygen, water height not more than 50 cm, substrat varies from bigstones, small stones, clay loam and sandy loam. The area was covered by vegetation thatcan provide food during all year round, such as Colocasia esculenta, Limnocharisflava, and Ipomoea aquatics.Key Word: Leucocephalon yuwonoi, habitat, vegetation, water conditions.
