Abstract

Abstract

This paper is a review and preparation of concepts, ideas and theoris of post-colonial drama in Helen Gilbert andTompkins?s sense. I use ?Post-Colonial Drama: Theory, Practice, Politics? as a main source of their ideas about post-colonial Drama. I limited this paper in theories of canonical counter-discourse, the language of resistance, and body politics in post-colonial context. The result of this reconstruction to their theories is developed to become theoretical and methodological framework which can be used to analyse post-colonial drama in later researches.

Abstract

This study examines aspects of the performativity of gender identity and sexuality in the novel Imarah Yakubian by Alaa al-Awani. Through Judith Butler's theory of performativity, the author examines how the identity and gender sexuality performativity of the characters and how the attitude of the characters in the novel Imarah Yaqubian in responding to the dominance of heteronormativity. The results showed that Egyptian society which was dominated by heteronormativity ideology gave birth to the marginalization of homosexuals. Individuals who have 'deviant' gender and sexuality tendencies respond to compliance, negotiation, or resistance. Compliance in the novel IY was shown by Abduh by positioning and publicly showing himself as what was considered normal by the general public. The moderate-negotiate response was demonstrated by Hatim al-Rashid's figure by showing the things that were acceptable to the public in the public sphere and showing what he wanted in the private sphere.

Abstract

Al-Aswany is known as the writer who often calls for Egyptian democracy. In his creative work, al-Aswany made the themes of democracy, freedom of speech, equality of rights and so on. The various thematic (democracy) in Bakhtin terms are called carnivalistic and/or polyphonic, have many voices. In this paper the author will map carnivalistics/polyphonic through the novel Imarah Yakubian written by al-Aswany. The carnivalism and polyphony of the Jacobian Empire are tested by Bakhtin's dialogic theory. The elements studied include: 1) carnivalization, 2) composition of the polyphonic novel, 3) character and author position, 4) dialogue of the novel consisting of: a) dialogue between characters; b) representation of ideas; and c) intertextual dialogue. As a result, the Jacobian Imarah can be categorized as a polyphonic novel with predominantly carnivalistic features. In the novel there are many dialogical voices. The dialogue is in the form of dialogue between figures as well as dialogue between novel texts (Imarah Yakubian) and other texts.

Abstract

This study examines Fawaizul Umam’s Lelaki yang Kembali Menemui Iblis short story by applying Derrida's deconstruction theory. This study will try to answer whether the novel deconstructs binary opposition between goods and evils or establish the opposition in hierarchy. The result shows that there are pairs of oppositions created in the novel abort themselves and postpone the meaning structures they have.

This effort is also carried out on one of Indonesia's cultural treasures: the Panji tales. The preservation of the Panji tales is essential because of its status as a world cultural heritage. Therefore, the socialization of the existence and importance of the Panji tales needs to be carried out by targeting the younger generation and related parties. In this case, the younger generation is the 6th-grade elementary school students while the related parties include the teachers of SDN Gogodalem 2, Bringin Sub-District, Semarang Regency. This socialization aims to make students and teachers aware, not just knowing, of the important value of the Panji tales and its conservation efforts. Abstract

Abstract

This study examines how folkloric form in Riyana Rizki's Sudah Kukatakan, Aku Timun Mas (SKATM) becomes the aesthetic strategy at a time when most Indonesian writers deconstruct Ramayana-Mahabharata Epic. Specifically, this study examines the aspects of socially symbolic act, ideologeme, and ideology of form in SKATM. To examine these aspects, the authors laboring political unconscious horizon of interpretation, proposed by Jameson, through three concentric horizons, consisting of the political, social, and historical horizons. The political horizon of interpretation showed that the SKATM narrative is a socially symbolic act of the author over social contradictions that cannot directly be resolved. Additionally, the social horizon of interpretation revealed that the symbolic social actions of SKATM are based on ideologemes or antagonistic social class collective discourses. Later, the historical horizon of interpretation demonstrated that the ideologemes drama at the social level of SKATM are held in a wider space. From the findings, SKATM manifests the folkloric form as a symbolic act, class struggle ideologeme, and cultural revolution
