Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) powder and swimming exercise on fat distribution in the liver organ of white male rats model with obesity. The design of this study was experimental study with randomly factorial design. There were 24 rats divided into two groups, 20 rats were induced to be obese by giving high fat diet, and 4 rats were given standard diet. For intervention period (4 weeks) 20 obese rats were divided into 5 groups namely (1) standard diet (SD), (2) high fat diet (HFD), (3) high fat diet plus swimming exercise (HFD+SE), (4) high fat diet plus red dragon fruit powder (HFD+RDFP), and (5) high fat diet plus red dragon fruit powder plus swimming exercise (HFD+RDFP+SE). Research results showed that fat distribution and visceral fat weight were different significantly among intervention groups (p<0.05). The lowest percentage of fat distribution was occured in RDFP+HFD+SE group (21.44%) and the lightest weight of central fat was also occurred in the same group (7.73 g). This study showed that in four weeks intervention, red dragon fruit powder and swimming exercise had a relatively similar clinical effects on reducing percentage of fat in the liver and visceral fat weight.

Abstract

The problem of malnutrition in children under five starts from malnutrition during pregnancy such as Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED). One of the nutrition improvement programs for pregnant women in Central Bengkulu Regency is Food Supplementary feeding  for CED pregnant women and toddlers, including in Semidang Lagan District, Central Bengkulu Regency. A holistic approach is needed starting from cadres, health workers, communities, partners with local government officials, as well as the private sector in preventing and overcoming the problem of CED pregnant women and malnourished toddlers. Community Service Activities (CSA) were carried out in the villages of Taba Lagan, Pagar Jati and Lagan Bungin with the aim of empowering cadres in managing CED pregnant women and malnourished toddlers. The results of the CSA activity showed that there is an increase in skill score of cadres in anthropometric measurements practices , an increase in the knowledge of mothers having children under five, an increase in the size of the MUAC for CED pregnant women, an increase of cadres ability  to motivate pegnant women with CED  in each villages. Local government support financial assisstance for villages continuously.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship among nutritional status, activity physical and intake fiber with levels sugar blood fasting on type 2 DM patients in Puskesmas Pasar Ikan of Bengkulu city. Cross-sectional design is used in this research . The subject in research is 33 respondents who have diagnosed DM type 2 by health providers that fulfills criteria inclusion. Collecting data was done by using anthropometrical measurements, interviews structured with PAL, SQ-FFQ. Blood sample was taken by using electro based biosensor system and Easy Touch tool. The statistic analysis was done by Correlation test. This research showed that there was no relationship between blood glucose level in fasting with nutritional status (p = 0.748) . There was a relationship activity physical with GDP (p = 0.029) with negative patterned r = -0.379. There was relationship between fiber intake with GDP (p = 0.039) with negative patterned r = -0.362. There was a significant relationship between physical activity, fiber intake with the fasting blood sugar levels on patients with DM type 2

Abstract

Background: Liverworts are a group of plants from the Marchantia genus containing various biologically active compounds and comprised of 65 species worldwide. This plant species belongs to the Marchantiaceae family, which was used empirically in China, North America, Ancient Greece, and Indonesia to treat open wounds, burns, hepatotoxicity, and infection prevention. Now, liverworts have great potential as medicinal and nutraceutical products because of their phytochemical content and diversity of pharmacological activities. Purpose: This review focuses on secondary metabolites obtained from the thalloid and whole plant parts (herbs) and the compilation of their pharmacological activities, which are still poorly documented. Review: This review article obtained related information through extensive international journals (online) scientific databases and offline (books) related to all searches of the species of the genus Marchantia which included: phytochemical content (secondary metabolites) and various pharmacological activities which were collected and compared all results of literature studies from various aspects. Some of the secondary metabolites are Marchantin A, B, D dan E; Paleatin B; Perrottetin F, and Plagiochin E, which have various pharmacological activities. Various results regarding all the therapeutic properties of the genus Marchantia have been produced in the world such as: antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, cytotoxic activity, anti-inflammatory, cardiotonic, hepatoprotective, muscle relaxant, antiosteoporosis, and skin care. Conclusion: Therefore, the potential for the development of medicinal, supplementary and nutraceutical products from various Marchantia species is very large and broad for the future.

Abstract

Nutritional anemia in adolescents has an impact on decreasing learning concentration and low learning achievement. Adolescent girls who are anemic are at risk of becoming anemic women of childbearing age, then becoming anemic mothers who can experience chronic energy deficiency during pregnancy later. Red dragon fruit and moringa leaves are known to  have a high level of  vitamin C,  rich in iron, and other bioactive compound. However, the potency of the combination between Hylocereus polyrhizus juice and Moringa Leaf Powder towards Hemoglobin level in Adolescent girls is still remain unknown. The purpose of this study was to know the effect of giving a mixture  of hylocereus polyrhizus juice and Moringa leaf powder on hemoglobin levels in  adolescent girls. A Quasy Experimental study was conducted in this study with two intervention  groups and one control group. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 60 students especially adolescent girls from Senior High School 3 in Bengkulu City in May 2022. Statistical analysis using One Way Anova test and Bonferonni Post Hoc test. A mixture of Hylocereus polyrhizus juice and moringa leaf powder was significantly associated with increasing hemoglobin levels than group that was given hylocereus polyrhizus  juice only with p value = 0,000  (p <0,05).

Abstract

Hypertension, if left untreated, causes complications in important organs such as the heart, eyes, kidneys, and brain. Tomatoes and sweet oranges have benefits in lowering blood pressure, but these two food ingredients have not been combined to be used as food ingredients in lowering blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a combination of tomato and sweet orange juice on blood pressure in employees at the office of the PT Agri Andalas Seluma Regency. The research design was a pre-experiment with pre-and post-test designs. The subjects were employees at PT Agri Andalas, totaling 15 people, conducted by purposive sampling. The treatment was given a combination of juice in the form of 150 g of tomatoes and sweet orange juice as much as 50 ml then given, and water was added as much as 50 ml so as to produce a combination of tomato and sweet orange juice as much as 250 ml. The intervention was performed for 7 days. Results: The systolic blood pressure from136,1 mmHg decreased from 131,4 mmHg. Likewise in diastolic blood pressure, there was a change from 86,3 mmHg to 81,8 mmHg. There was a difference in systolic (p= 0,001) and diastolic (p= 0,001) blood pressure before and after treatment with a combination of tomato and sweet orange juice.  In conclusion, the combination of tomatoes and sweet orange juice lowered blood pressure. The juice combination can be used as a functional food as an alternative for lowering blood pressure.
