Abstract

The refractive index value can be determined using various methods, one of which is the principle of Snell's law. . This research aims to compare the refractive index of Pertalite and Pertamax fuel oil and prove Snell's law. This research was conducted at the Optical Laboratory of the Tadris Physics Study Program, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Jakarta. The main materials used are Pertamax and Pertalite as the fluid, then laser, ruler, glass container, pen, protractor, HVS paper. The results obtained from this experiment, namely the refractive index value for Pertalite, obtained an average value of 1.36 and for the refractive index for Pertamax, the average value was 1.653, so it can be concluded that the refractive rays in Pertamax are greater than the refractive rays in Pertalite. So, for its use, Pertamax is more efficient compared to Pertalite.Keywords: Refractive index, refraction, pertalite, and Pertamax

Abstract

Minyak goreng memiliki kandungan utama yaitu asam lemak, asam lemak memiliki dua jenis yaitu asam lemak jenuh dan asam lemak tak jenuh. Asam lemak yang terkandung dalam minyak inilah yang menentukan kualitasnya. Namun, kebanyakan minyak goreng yang dikonsumsi masyarakat tidak memiliki kualitas yang baik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen yaitu melakukan pengambilan data dengan membandingkan dua merek minyak goreng. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan viskositas dan kandungan asam lemak jenuh pada minyak goreng dengan merek berbeda guna mengetahui minyak goreng dengan kualitas lebih baik. Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan, viskositas minyak goreng Rizky lebih kecil, yaitu sebesar 0,15 Ns/m², sedangkan viskositas minyak goreng Bimoli sebesar 0,246 Ns/m². Adapun kadar lemak jenuh minyak goreng Rizky cenderung lebih besar yaitu 42 gram, sedangkan kadar lemak jenuh minyak goreng Bimoli yaitu 37 gram. Viskositas relatif lurus dengan kualitas minyak dan relatif terbalik dengan asam lemak jenuh. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa minyak goreng Bimoli lebih baik kualitasnya daripada minyak goreng Rizky.

Abstract

Pollution in Indonesia has increased over time due to the large amount of waste that is not managed properly, one of which is plastic waste which has a negative impact on the environment, where it can pollute oceans, rivers and other environmental areas. On the other hand, the increase in natural resources and community needs are also increasing rapidly. So, based on these problems, this research aims to utilize plastic waste as a mixture to form paving blocks and analyze the quality of paving blocks better. The method used in this research is experimental which is carried out by making paving blocks with different types of plastic, namely PET ( polyethylene ethylene terephalate ) , PP (polypropylene) and PS (polystyrene plastic) with a mixture of gravel with a weight volume ratio of 50: 50. Model The paving blocks studied were paving blocks in the form of blocks with object dimensions measuring 14.5 × 9.5 cm x 3.5 cm. The results of the research showed that the compressive strength of PP, PET and PS plastic types were 33.8 MPa, 18 MPa, and 9 MPa respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that the PP (polypropylene) plastic mixture has the best quality in handling quite heavy loads.
