Abstract

This research is entitled The Role of Teachers in the Green school Program to Strengthen the Environmentally Caring Character of Students at the National Adiwiyata School, SD YPWKS V. The aim of this research is to determine the design of the green school program, the implementation of the green school program, teachers' understanding of the green school program, and the role of teachers. in the green school program in strengthening the character of caring for the environment at YPWKS V Elementary School. This research uses descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research were the principal, class teachers, and students at SD YPWKS V. The data collection techniques used in this research were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data obtained qualitatively shows that the teacher's role in program design is identifying environmental problems that exist in the school and determining specific needs that must be addressed through the green school program, actively participating in formulating ideas and concepts and designing the curriculum. In implementing the green school program, the majority of residents at SD YPWKS V have implemented the green school program during teaching and learning activities and activities outside the classroom and have implemented it in their daily lives. Apart from that, the teachers at YPWKS V Elementary School already understand the concept of green school so that teachers can understand the indicators of students who already have insight into caring for the environment. The role of the teacher in forming environmentally caring character is that the teacher becomes a student facilitator to provide understanding to students, directing and guiding and providing concrete examples so that students at YPWKS Elementary School already have an environmentally caring character.
