Abstract

The diversity of Indonesian people can be a problem when they do not have a sense of brotherhood based on the diversity of religion, culture, language and ethnic groups. Understanding diversity is known by young people through various media outlets. This study aims to understand the level of the knowledge of youths concerning the values of pluralism and multiculturalism. This study also intends to find out whether social media influence the knowledge and their understanding of pluralism and multiculturalism. However, the demographic bonus could be a burden for the countries involved, particularly when the generation lacks competitiveness. This can even cause the disintegration of this nation. This study was a quantitative research study conducted using the survey method. The respondents consisted of 400 young people in high school or the equivalent. The study was conducted in three cities in East Java, namely Surabaya, Pasuruan, and Kediri. The samples were taken using the multi-stage cluster random sampling method. The data was obtained through structured questionnaires and processed using SPPS for Windows 16. The results can be explained as follows; even though more than fifty percent of the youths in this study claimed to have never heard or known of the term “pluralism” and “multiculturalism”, their level of comprehension of pluralism and multiculturalism values was good enough. This was influenced by the information that they got through social media. The values that are understood more by the youths through social media in this study tend to be more orientated to pluralism values than multiculturalism. The most understood pluralism values are plurality and diversity. This is in line with their assessment of the role and quality of the information available on social media, which tends to contain pluralism values rather than multiculturalism values.

Abstract

As a manifestation of functionalism, free education becomes a way to eradicate economic disparity by opening access to school for all people. This method is standard in many developing countries as it could foster development. However, the most fundamental problem of this disparity, oppression, and class domination are understudied. To make things worse, studies that do discuss these topics suffer from class bias conceptualization of free education. Therefore, this study aims to demonstrate how free education takes part in a capitalistic society as a superstructure through the correspondence thesis. Subsequently, this study identifies essential elements in (capitalistic) free education. Phenomenological-based qualitative method is used to describe experiences of 21 informants in Selamat Pagi Indonesia (SPI) Senior High School. Data gathered from observation, interview, and secondary sources, and then analyzed phenomenologically. We found that free education, instead of bringing people to equality and freedom from disparity, entraps students deep into modern capitalism through 1) normalization to serve, and 2) giving up power to the capitalist. This condition would benefit many corporations from taking part in aiding the school foundation and perpetuate the domination of the bourgeoisie over the working class. Thus, this study suggests that the capitalistic feature of free education is disrupting its conventional conceptualization.

Abstract

Koperasi adalah lembaga sosial-ekonomi yang memiliki peran penting dalam mendukung perkembangan kegiatan ekonomi kerakyatan, penanganan kemiskinan dan pengangguran di Provinsi Jawa Timur, tetapi hingga kini data base perkembangan koperasi di Jawa Timur belum tertata dengan baik. Ditengarai hingga saat ini masih banyak koperasi yang belum terdata dengan akurat, dan kalau pun tersedia data perkembangan koperasi umumnya masih belum banyak dimanfaatkan sebagai acuan dalam penyusunan program pembinaan dan pemberdayaan koperasi yang benar-benar kontekstual. Tujuan keiatan ini adalah, Pertama, untuk mengetahui pasang-surut perkembangan koperasi di Jawa Timur. Kedua, untuk memetakan problema dan berbaga kendala yang dihadapi koperasi dalam upaya mengembangkan kegiatan usaha dan melayani anggotanya. Ketiga, untuk dasar merumuskan program yang benar-benar efektif dalam upaya pemberdayaan koperasi di Jawa Timur. Metode yang digunakan pertama, melakukan pengumpulan data. Kedua, melakukan analisis data sekunder Ketiga, melakukan kajian lapangan, yakni langsung mewawancarai para anggota dan pengurus Koperasi di Jawa Timur. Hasil dari penelitian ini anggota koperasi mengalami peningkatan juga dari kebutuhan simpan pinjamnya. Prospek kedepan, perkembangan koperasi diyakini sebagian besar responden akan makin besar, sebab banyak warga masyarakat yang membutuhkan koperasi untuk tempat meminjam modal usaha mau pun untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup sehari-hari.

Abstract

The enrollment rate for the higher education of the Tengger tribe is low. However, there is a group of Tengger youths who have the determination to achieve a Bachelor’s degree despite the limitations that they encounter. This study aimed to describe the meaning of education among the Tengger tribe and the efforts of the Tengger youths to continue their studies in college. This study was conducted in Ngadiwono Village Pasuruan Regency in the East Java Province and using a qualitative method. The data is analyzed by social and cultural reproduction theory by Pierre Bourdieu. The data was obtained from bachelor students and people from the older community group in order to find out the meaning of education based on their understanding. The data was collected using interviews, observations and documentation methods. The results of this study show that the success of the youths in becoming undergraduates was due to their effort and hard work. They were supported by their families who had a better understanding of the meaning of education. They have a social modal that they got from elementary education. They develop their social capital to get better education and occupations in the future.

Abstract

The education sector is experiencing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the implementation of the distance learning (PJJ) system to reduce the risk of virus transmission. This system, however, has several obstacles, including the internet network, social inequality, uncertainty in choosing the appropriate learning method, and the decline in student achievement. This problem is also faced by smart class students at Hang Tuah Senior High School 2 of Sidoarjo, forcing its teachers to be able to create innovative learning and act actively to discipline their students. This study aimed to determine the teachers’ role as a panopticon for smart class students during distance learning. The qualitative research method was implemented using Foucault’s genealogical approach and the research informants were determined using the snowball technique. The results of this study reveal that the teachers’ role as a panopticon for the students is carried out with a hierarchical observation, giving reward and punishment, and repeated test system. This study concludes that the role of the teachers as a panopticon during distance learning at Hang Tuah Senior High School 2 of Sidoarjo is particularly useful for disciplining smart class students to carry out their obligations and prevent a decline in academic achievement even though the activities are done virtually.

Abstract

Literasi dini adalah kemampuan anak usia dini untuk membaca, menulis dan berhitung. Literasi anak usia dini berkembang dan diperoleh di rumah maupun lingkungan sosialnya. Pentingnya literasi di era digital bagi anak usia dini menuntut perhatian serius. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan pola pengembangan literasi bagi anak usia dini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif. Data bersifat deskriptif berupa kata-kata tertulis dari informan yaitu fasilitator, orangtua siswa, kepala sekolah serta perilaku yang dapat diamati. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literasi dini dengan memproduksi buku cerita berdampak mendorong percepatan perkembangan bahasa bagi anak usia dini. Modal sosial sebagai elemen pokok dalam pengembangan literasi dini berhubungan dengan kerjasama dalam menjalin komunikasi, memberi dukungan serta keteladanan dari orang tua dan fasilitator untuk menciptakan lingkungan belajar. Kondisi ini menghadirkan parenting di sekolah yang terpadu dengan proses pembelajaran secara alami dan bukan kegiatan yang diselenggarakan secara terbatas pada setiap semester yang bersifat monoton.

Abstract

Abstract: College Student Perception of the Sustainable Environment: Learning Opportunities after Covid-19. Objective: This study aims to determine students’ perception as prospective educators at the basic education level on environmental issues and the orientation of sustainable environmental education in universities after the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: This study uses a quantitative analysis approach with a survey method. The population in this study were students of the Department of Elementary School Teacher Education, amounting to 880 people. The number of samples taken was 249 from four generations spread from 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017—data collection using a questionnaire with an electronic google form format. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics. Finding: The results showed the diversity of students’ perceptions of environmental problems and the need for sustainable environmental learning practices. Conclusion: In conclusion, although it is still limited, students can already see the relationship between environmental issues with economic, social, and political dimensions. Critical environmental learning is needed to improve the quality of sustainable environmental education. Keywords: environmental literacy, sustainable environment, college student perception. Abstrak: Persepsi Mahasiswa tentang Lingkungan Berkelanjutan: Peluang Belajar Pasca Covid-19. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa sebagai calon pendidik di jenjang pendidikan dasar terhadap isu lingkungan dan orientasi pendidikan lingkungan berkelanjutan di perguruan tinggi pasca pandemi Covid-19. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan analisis kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar yang berjumlah 880 orang. Jumlah sampel yang diambil sebanyak 249 dari empat generasi yang tersebar dari tahun 2020, 2019, 2018, dan 2017—pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dengan format elektronik google form. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Temuan: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya keragaman persepsi siswa terhadap masalah dan kompleksitas lingkungan serta perlunya praktik pembelajaran lingkungan yang berkelanjutan. Kesimpulan: Kesimpulannya, meskipun masih terbatas, mahasiswa sudah dapat melihat keterkaitan antara isu lingkungan dengan dimensi ekonomi, sosial, dan politik. Pembelajaran lingkungan kritis diperlukan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan lingkungan yang berkelanjutan. Kata kunci: literasi lingkungan, lingkungan berkelanjutan, persepsi mahasiswa. Abstract

The teacher's response to the problem of the socio-ecological crisis becomes important and urgent as an effort to increase teachers' sensitivity, willingness and ability to identify potential and socio-ecological problems that exist in the school environment and the surrounding area.Therefore, this study aims to analyze how teachers participating in in-service teacher training, called Teacher Professional Education (PPG), perceive socio-ecological issues. This study aims to analyze the teacher's perception of the socio-ecological crisis. This study uses a quantitative analysis approach with a survey method. The population in this study were 102 teachers participating in the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) primary school teacher training program, with a sample of 96 people. Data collection uses a questionnaire with an electronic google form format. The data analysis technique used descriptive statistics. The research results on teacher perceptions support the inclusion of socio-ecological crisis material in environmental learning in schools and PPG in in-service teacher training positions. In conclusion, although teachers still practice caring and environmentally friendly habits in schools, teachers have paid attention to the importance of critical environmental learning, outdoor learning, collective, and environmental problems in preventing and overcoming socio-ecological. The implication is that teachers are expected to gain many dimensions and critical environmental perspectives in responding to social-ecological problems.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to explore the stigma received by Muslims who work in Catholic schools and the stigma management carried out by the subject for stigmatization and at the same time as an effort to reduce the social tension that arises. Departing from an interpretive paradigm, this study explores four subjects who work as teachers in a Catholic school in the city of Surabaya. This study uses in-depth interviews for data collection techniques. This study finds that being a teacher in a Catholic school is a story about fighting against the notion of 'deviance'; 'strange'; as well as 'taboo' in the midst of a multicultural society. Therefore, identity as a teacher in a Catholic school has led to a response that ends in stigma within each subject. The stigma comes from the closest environment, namely the spouse's relatives and peers who are fellow Muslims. These forms of stigma include being considered deviant, sarcasm, and being labeled as infidel. Meanwhile, stigma management , which is carried out as an effort to manage stigma and reduce tension, is to clarify, make the stigma a source of humor, and hide the stigmatized identity.
